Thanks for the update. Any word on adding additional guns?

No I did not ask. Interesting thing I recently found out, you can carry more than one gun on your person. I think the recent bill that was passed, limits carry to no more than two guns on your person at one time.

What was the total time from start to finish?

Sorry I dropped off the forum before answering any follow-up questions. I applied on July 19th and got fingerprinted July 26th. Hamilton PD processed my application and mailed it to the court within ~30 days (August 23rd) . The court house received the application and sent it to the judge on August 26th. My money order was cashed September 7th. The application remained in limbo until December. I picked it up on December 15th. The permit has an issue date of December 8th.

  3. No restrictions except for handguns listed on application. The only caveat, they didn’t put the guns or serial numbers on the card, instead they put it on the court order which needs to be carried with the permit. Since it only states copy of the court order, I will use a digital copy saved on my phone.

Did they ever end up contacting your references?

Would like to know this too. My app got kicked back to HTPD and my refs still haven't been contacted. I sent the FA unit an email on Wed but haven't heard anything. I will call them next week. This is all so tiring and ridiculous...

Yes, the detective from HPD called my references. I have to say it is pointless. A written statement, which is signed will always trump an oral statement. There’s no good argument to justify the courts requiring the investigative agency to call references.

  5. Yesterday, Wednesday December 8th, I called Mercer County and spoke to the law clerk. The clerk informed me that he was expecting to hear back from the prosecutor that day (Dec. 8th). He said after he speaks to the prosecutor he will complete my application, have the judge sign it, and mail it back. He suggested I should expect it early next week. I'll share any update next week.

He said they weren't sending back the entire application and that they needed HTPD to let them know if they contacted the references, and, if not, to let them know when it was done.  It wasn't entirely clear on how they would be doing it but he did say there was a whole bunch of applications in this same situation. Also, it sounded like someone else in the court would be handling notifying HTPD. I will pass along any updates I am lucky enough to get.

HTPD was most likely notified of your situation too. The detective that called me this morning was polite, however sounded a bit agitated over the new requirement, which previously was not required. They never had to call before. This is just one way the courts figured they would delay the process. It's pointless to have the investigative agency call the references and ask the same question they already answered and signed on paper.

Your timing is impeccable! (See the post above yours)

I was just writing another message to state we were both typing our message at the same time. Based on what you shared, they did not send back the entire application, rather notified the PD of the court's concern?

  8. Hamilton PD called me today. They sent my application back to the PD because they did not call my three references. He contacted my references this morning. Now I don't know what to expect. He assured me he is taking care of it today. Hopefully, I don't get placed at the bottom of the pile back at the court house. If so, I'm looking at nearly 200 days cumulative.

Was this your second call? After you posted the clerk's # (several post back)  I tried a few days later and it just kept bouncing to voice mail. I’m looking at 140 days in total and probably 80 days (+ or -) at the county depending on the mail system.  You know they didn’t accomplish anything last week expect maybe a couple of office parties

The phone call I recently referred to was from today. I tried calling yesterday and early last week but kept getting voicemail.

  10. I spoke to the judge’s clerk. He said he was in the process of sending my application along with many others to the prosecutor’s office. He suggested once the prosecutor reviews the application, it is returned to him. After the prosecutor returns the application to him, the judge will stamp it and mail the permit back to the PD. What didn’t make sense was when he stated the process is pretty straightforward after they receive the application back from the prosecutor. After the prosecutor confirms the paperwork is good, the judge signs the permit and mails it. He said since the PD has already given their approval, he stamps it and moves it along after the prosecutorial review, WHICH IS NOT A REQUIREMENT!

  11. I need to register with them before Emailing Strikeforce. There’s no way Mercer County is regularly issuing permits. The numbers at face value suggest they either haven’t started or only sign 1-3 permits a week. I was informed my permit number is 58. The court received my application and forwarded it to the judge 94 days ago. In short, in three months they processed less than 58 permits.

Here in Mercer, things got off to a slow start as the judge that originally had permit review / issuance stated that he wanted no part of giving us serfs permits.  He's since been relieved of that duty and replaced with a Christie-appointed judge.

A slow start is an understatement. As of today, my application has been at the Mercer County Court for 94 days. Furthermore, I was informed there is no expected ETA.

Applied July 8th, Received October 24th.  Yes, long wait time.

I applied July 19th, here we are November 17th and still deprived of my right. Btw, Hamilton PD only took 30 days before mailing it to the court.

Amen. The approvals should be a formality at this point...

I just called the court house and was informed my application is near the front of the list at this point. However, it has yet to be sent to the prosecutor's office. Furthermore, I was informed there is no ETA as to when it will be sent. At this point, it is safe to assume that Mercer County is putting applications on the back burner.

  15. I'm on day 80 at the court house today. I was informed today that the prosecutor has yet to view my application. I was only informed I am close to the front of the pile and there is no ETA available as to when it will be processed.

Too bad we don't have any real transparency. I am at about ~30 days now at Mercer court. Figure I'll give it a few more and then drop SF a note, not that I expect anything to change quickly. :(

Towards the end of October I spoke to the person that handles receiving and sending from PD, PO, judge, and back to PD. Considering the replacement judge, he anticipates the entire docket backlog to be caught up within a months time as they already started processing applications.
