I am running an IDPA Intermediate Skills class at EFGA on August 31st.

This class is designed to teach some of the thought processes and techniques that will help a Novice or Marksman advance to the next classification in IDPA. To acheive the most from this class you should have at least a year of experience of shooting IDPA and have been classified in at least one division as NV or MM. This class will be oriented towards semi-auto pistols and will be less useful to revolver or PCC shooters although these are also welcome to attend.

Some of the board members have attended my IDPA Intro class in previous years and have given positive feedback so I hope this class will be equally well received.

For more details and to book your spot got to https://idpa-intermediate.eventbrite.com

Ruger Mark IV 22/45 Lite - Best All Around Rimfire Pistol?
Ruger sent me out the Mark IV 22/45 Lite to do some testing. LOVING it! While I still think the Wrangler is the best first handgun... this is certainly a terrific all around rimfire pistol.

Video premier tonight at 9:30 on YouTube and will give away some Ruger Swag.

Wanted to be the first to say "Hello and Welcome" to the latest NJGF community member, Ed  @Dark Storm Industries.

While many of you may already be familiar, for those that are not, DSI is a leader in the compliant rifle space, making the best out of a mediocre situation.

One of the most recent firearms is the new Non-NFA firearm that was blessed for NJ and for which there is a specific NJSP letter.

If you have not done so already, check out the dedicated NJ web page, https://www.dark-storm.com/new-jersey/  to see a copy of the letter and all of the NJ compliant models.

I am looking forward to thoroughly testing one of the rifles in the immediate future!

Welcome Ed and thank you for supporting the community.

Make sure to take a look at DSI rifles at your local dealer and make sure to ask them to carry DSI guns if they are not doing so already!

Gun Control or Merely Incompetence? New Jersey Towns Are "Out of Permits"
New Jersey's gun owners have largely heard most of the excuses when it comes to applying for pistol permits, from the classic "The Chief has not been able to sign them yet, he is (on vacation, too busy,  lunar calendar has not aligned)" to the "we only process pistol permits once a week from X to Y o'clock, by appointment only."

Now legal, law abiding citizens have a new one they can add to the list... "we ran out of pistol permits."

What was surely supposed to be yet another joke of a topic or a new gun owner being pushed around by an anti-gun municipality is unfortunately, seemingly true.

Earlier today an NJGF member posted that when speaking with a friend, they were told by Clark township, a municipality known for fairly speedy processing times, that the background check was complete however the township was "out of actual permits and were waiting on a delivery."

Another member quickly responded with a similar story posted in a different NJ gun group about the city of Hoboken.

This... is not a joke.

This begs the question, how was this incompetence allowed to happen?  Or perhaps this is a more sinister ploy and a measure of gun control?

No Permits, No Hand Guns

Unfortunately, as everyone knows, the only thing that results from this is the rights of law abiding citizens are being trampled and is unacceptable and a reminder of the Soviet Union days of waiting in line to purchase bread with your coupon.

While it is no secret that many gun owners are applying for multiple permits in order to get ahead of the draconian price increase that Governor Murphy is trying to push through, there is simply no excuse today.

A question for the community,  has the state ever "run out" of pistol permits in the past?

What other townships and municipalities are "running out" of permits?

If you have not done so already, take a look at the topic here.

Franklin Armory® Now Accepting NJ Orders For Reformation™
Minden, NV, April 19, 2019 – Innovative firearms manufacturer, Franklin Armory®, is now accepting orders from the State of New Jersey for the Reformation™ RS7™ and RS11™.

Franklin Armory™ President, Jay Jacobson, noted, “We have been working with the New Jersey State Police to confirm the legality of the Reformation™ firearms in the state.  Department personnel were unable to provide any statutes that would prohibit the legal purchase, transfer, and/or possession of the RS7™ and RS11™ within the state of New Jersey.”

Reformation™ firearms shipping to New Jersey will feature ten round Magpul Pmag magazines and a Franklin Armory® custom tuned trigger.  Since Reformation™ firearms do not readily fall under the definitions of rifle, shotgun, or pistol under state law, they have not been shown to trigger the New Jersey Assault Weapon classification.  Additionally, since they have not been shown to be classified as a state defined rifle or shotgun, they cannot be defined as a state defined short barreled rifle or short barreled shotgun.  Reformation™ firearms are still considered NON-NFA firearms under federal law and will NOT require a $200 tax stamp.

My First SHOT Show (The Takeaways and Realization it's work)
We have an astounding ability as humans to progress, apply yourself for one month and the results become noticeable, 6 months can be substantial, 12 months? Limitless. Subjectively speaking, January 2018 I was just another "gun guy" who bought guns and gear entertaining myself with endless amounts of 2A media, January 2019 I was attending SHOT show as an "industry insider" media creator. If you told me a year earlier this would happen I wouldn't believe you, but stranger things have happened.

With pure luck I connected with a media mogul of industry early 2018, I contributed content to his media platform, becoming a writer in the industry as result. Late summer 2018 I was asked about attending SHOT to be at the forefront of the industry for 2019. Candidly it never crossed my mind being new to the industry, but in the weeks following I'm still digesting my first experience and which direction to take my writing.

M&P15-22 CONSUMER SAFETY ALERT
This has been posted on S&W's facebook page and I know not everyone is on facebook.   Not sure how else they are going to release this info so here it is just in case anyone owns one of these:

Smith & Wesson has identified two M&P15-22 firearms from recent production on which the breech face counter bore depth was not within manufacturing specification. In those firearms, the lack of depth may allow the bolt, upon closing, to crush the rim of the case, causing the round to fire, cycling the bolt, and potentially resulting in multiple discharges without depressing the trigger.

We are asking consumers of all M&P15-22 firearms manufactured before February 1, 2019 to inspect their firearms bolts for this condition.

STOP USING YOUR FIREARM UNTIL IT HAS BEEN INSPECTED AND YOUR BOLT REPLACED (IF NECESSARY).

To determine whether your firearm is affected by this condition, please inspect your firearm by following the inspection instructions provided at MP15-22SafetyAlert.com.

Hey guys and gals,

Just a quick update... there was a security update that needed to be applied to the site which forced me to upgrade a bit earlier than I planned.

Should be done and working right now.  Some features are still being upgraded and database being reindexed.  So for now may be a tad slower... update in a bit.

NJ has now switched to the Firearms Registration and Application System (FARS).

https://www.njportal.com/njsp/fars

Instead of applying for your FID or Pistol Permits at your township PD, you'll go directly to the online system now.

Step 1: log on to https://www.njportal.com/njsp/fars
Step 2: Enter your Township's ORI Number (You will have to contact your local PD to obtain this information.  Some may list it on their township website)
Step 3: Complete the online application. You may complete the application using a smartphone, mobile device, laptop or desktop computer. When completing the application you will need the email addresses of two (2) reputable references. Your references can be family members.
Step 4: You must appear at your police department to pay for your initial Firearms Identification Card (FID Card) and/or Pistol Purchase Permits. Your application will not be processed until you have paid for the FID Card/Pistol Permits. Non-refundable payment is required to be made prior to the completion of the background as per NJSC 13:54.1.4.

* You will be receiving automated email updates throughout this new process.
* Once your application is complete, a station representative will contact you to retrieve your FID card and/or Pistol Purchase Permit documents.
* Please advise your references that the FARS system will email them the reference questions to be answered. Your references can complete the questions using a smartphone, mobile device, laptop or desktop computer. Please advise them to complete the questions immediately to progress your background application.
* The online application is applicant driven. Please ensure that you have entered the best phone numbers for yourself and references as well the best email addresses for you and your references.

Edit:  If you go through the NJSP - here's the list of ORI Numbers:  https://www.nj.gov/njsp/firearms/fars.shtml

Where the heck did the individual range groups go?

They were integrated into the new "Clubs" feature!

By user request, over the years we created small forum sections for individual gun clubs and 2A groups.  While it served the purpose, it was an administrative nightmare granting permissions while at the same time lacking organization and features.

Part of the software upgrades for the community was the ability to launch clubs, or groups around the community.

For our gun community I see it going three ways, 1. Social Groups (like NJ Zed), 2. 2A Rights Groups (NJ2AS, SAW, CNJFO), and 3. Gun Ranges/Clubs.

Already, converted the older groups to the new clubs and anyone who had access to the gun range section previously, currently has it for the club.  If you do not have access and want it, click the request to join.

Here is a video I put together showing you where to find it and how to use it.

If you would like a club added, either for a range or a new social group, let me know.  Better yet, if you hold a position in the gun club and want to help run it, even better!

I hope you enjoy it and it makes your NJ gun experience just a little bit better!

Lastly, don't forget to check out the Store & Range Directory! and subscribe to our YouTube channel to get the latest videos.

My Stag Arms AR is short stroking. I've owned it for 3 years and put about 2-3000 rounds through it.  Swapping in another BCG (also from a STAG AR) seems to have solved the issue.  Is the problem really solved, or is this just a band aid fix?
