  1. I just wanted to write a quick note about the great class I just had with Anthony.

First, a little about me: I'm one of those "gun guys" that knows a ton of stuff about firearms, but I have very little hands on experience. Previous to today, the last time I shot a gun was more than 5 years ago at a rental range in PA.

Also with me was my fiance, who is not a "gun person" at all, but is nice enough to indulge me and my hobbies.

So, onto the class - My fiance and I took a private First Steps pistol class with Anthony today. Anthony is very personable. He put us both at ease right away and took his time covering all the topics in the class. His facility is very nicely set up and is very conducive to learning. We covered safety rules, the pros and cons of various handguns (semi vs. revolver), how to load/unload our weapons, stance, grip, trigger control, sight alignment, and a bunch of other things I'm probably forgetting. We then went across the street to Bullet Hole to practice everything we had just learned. We lucked out and had the range mostly to ourselves.

Anyway, this is turning into a novel, so let me sum it all up by saying we both had a really good time and learned a lot. I have some (in my opinion) glaring weaknesses I need to work on, but, if I keep up with the practice tips Anthony gave me I'm sure I will over come them. My fiance did really well and is anxious to try something with a little more "kick" (she shot a .22).

If any of you new gun owners are on the fence about taking a class, get off the fence and give Anthony a call and bring your significant other! And you advanced guys will probably learn a few things too!

    Thanks Anthony!

  2. That being said, anyone know of low transfer fee FFLs in Northern New Jersey?

Ben, check out Jim at Action Shooter in Haledon. I posted his info in this thread:

    http://www.njgunforums.com/forums/ffl-fees-p5709.html#p5709

VERY reasonable transfer fees and him and Dave (the other guy that works there) are good guys. Just don't ask him about transferring AKs :?

Only downside is that depending on where you're driving from, you may have to drive thru some sketchy parts of Paterson to get there

He did 2 transfers last month for me, and aside for waiting almost 3 hours for a NICS check one time (which had nothing to do with him), it's been a painless experience

  3. Sounds interesting - does anyone buy any chance happen to know if a lot of people have signed up for this? BH is usually pretty crowded most of the time, and since this seems to be a free event, I would imagine that it's gonna be swamped...

  4. Prob shoulda done this before my first post :D

Anyway, been lurking here for a couple days and decided to finally register. Not much to say really.. I'm fairly new to NJ and firearms - moved from the city to northern Essex county about 8-9 months ago. Got my FID back in mid Feb and have been slowly building up my new "collection".

    Guess that's it... :)

  5. Don't think I've seen Jim mentioned in this thread, so:

    Action Shooters Supply

    267 Haledon Ave

    Haledon, NJ 07508

    973-942-6464

$20 for transfers plus NICS fee + tax = $37. I've done a couple transfers thru him recently - no issues. He won't touch any AK stuff tho.
