  2. I like to contribute my experience and hopefully it will help others.

I have two daughters; one is 9 and the other is 6. I have come to learn as many of you through the years that children are very curious in nature.

Both of my girls know I enjoy going to the range when I have time and since they are not of age to go with.

I have taught them the fundamentals of firearm safety.

I taught them how ammunition is made and how deadly it can be.

I taught them the workings of a revolver, semi-automatic and a number of long rifles.

They understand, besides its ability to take a life by someone using it. It also has the ability to save a life when needed.

They understand, it is not what is in your house that can worry you; but what is in your friend's home that may surprise you.

They understand, if they come across a firearm in the open at a friend's home; the first thing to do is to walk out and call me or their mom. This is even if their "friends'" states there is nothing to worry about.

They understand, firearms is nothing to boast about.

What have they learned. Respect of the firearm.

What they have taught me,,, understanding how a child thinks

    Eliminate Curiosity. Save a Cat.

Now I have to figure out how to incorporate this into teaching about drugs and BOYS!...

  4. Just to clarify. This is a call in deal. Not online. The online site may still say $1000 or $600 for those who received an email from the NRA.

And we do need the NRA more now; since all the craziness happening around the states.

I asked about my existing ID and was informed to contact the NRA Membership line once I receive my packet to have the account bounded together.

  6. Well the cost for any fees, taxes and price of the item on the local side against the cost of product and shipping fee. Rule of thumb when comparing items - No Tax and free shipping is always a no brainer to buy when the cost is at level at the local side. If Tax OR shipping is added then it narrows down how fast you need the item.

Basically, Take s step back and let the Dopamine subside... (WooooooSSsssAaaaaaa)...... to determine if you want to spend the extra cost.

  7. Thank you to all that have replied.

I do belong to the NRA and there are a lot of good choices that have been said.

I will have to definite take some time during the next couple of weeks to try and visit each of the locations.

Shore Shot and Bullet Hole & Belleville PBA ranges sounds like a good start to curb any itch.

Lake Island Club sounds nice as well as SCFGPA. John Fox do you have any additional information pertaining to Lake Island Club?

OBRPC seems like something in the future.

Does any of these clubs require a sponsorship? if so, how can I get sponsored.

  8. Thank you XDJohnTact, ptbr321 and deni.

I'll keep Shore Shot and BulletHole as one of my options and even arrange a day for a test drive and trial in the coming weeks.

Sorry for the additional question. Am I allowed to bring my own ammo and targets, or will I have to purchase and use their ammo and targets at their range?

Also, I am open to private ranges and hope to join one in the future, one of the problems is I read stories of ranges around Middlesex (won't say which) that all the range wants is your initial capital/payment then deny membership down the road (Not sure if this is true or not). It puts a big "Whoa" in the works. So it comes down to fellow gun owners how well do you know your private range. I never heard of the Carteret range; and Carteret is close to Edison. Wish there was one in Woodbridge... =0)

  9. Greetings all,

This may have been ask many times. Many debates were formed and never ended. I am looking into joining a shooting range (obviously) that can shoot either Indoor, Outdoor or Both. I have never shot anywhere in N.J., but have shot in upstate NY, so it has been a while. I own a XD-9mm and GP100 .357 Mag. hopefully if enough shooting time is put in; I can acquire my first shotgun in the future (but not a major factor at this time). I would like to practice shooting my XD-9 and Ruger. I may or may not want to use the .357 caliber for target practice, but would like to use the .38 +P equivalent; in order to maintain a closeness in recoil.

My work schedule is not on a norm. I put in 13 hour shifts starting on the weekends and on standby during the remainder of the work week. So when it comes down to "work parties" I am on odds end. Since most of the "Work Parties" appear to take place on the weekends.

Do I have children... yes... many.. and when they are ready, they will also learn the sport. Why mention children? Everything is scheduled or planned; if I am sure that I am not needed on Tuesday for work, I may drive to the range and shoot a hundred rounds, but I will still need to be able drive back to pick up my kids from school. So distance is a factor; 30-40 minutes tops, since I have to account time spent at the range and driving to and fro.

Your recommendations are appreciated. Thank you in advance.

  10. I have to agree with many on this post, Jim is about 40 minutes away from me and I took the drive just to check it out. Due to the 30 day purchase regulation. I wasn't able to purchase anything that day and he was busy; about 5 peeps were in front and three additional behind me and this is on top of things going on with his Truck biz. I just had to say, great guy! He knew I was unable to purchase, but gave me the attention since I was the next in front, even when I told him to take care of paying customers first. Long story short, I ended up ordering a GP100 from him for a great price. I'll be picking it up in a couple of weeks when the 30 day policy passes. One thing you should be aware, there is no display case for firearms. You will need to know what you are looking for or wanting to buy or at least an idea and have patience since he is very busy. He is also able to fill in the blanks and show you things that are close to what you are looking for. I almost ended up wanting to pick up a 380... Man decisions!.
