read post #79 again...both sides can easily get their message out, but the bottom line is that more and more people are starting to wake up in this country.
The question is will it be enough?
More likely they will try to push gun control on a state level.
One thing is sure that NJ will not be better...only worse for legal gun owners once Christie leaves office.
Agreed. A total assault weapons ban and 10 round mag limit is almost certain under a democratic governor. And that's only to start.
-
I'm sorry to say, it will never happen.
-
All it takes is Hillary to win next year and bring along the House and Senate for this and much more to become reality.
-
Everyone here is crying about Christie, but has anyone though what will happen when a Dem gets elected in a few years. 10 round limit is certain, as is an assault weapons ban of any and all so called "assault rifles" with no grandfathering on either one. And that's just a start.

So you believe that Governor Weinberg would have vetoed all those bills and pardoned all those individuals (or asked her AG for clarification that let them off). And future Gov. Sweeney will do the same. You believe that given the circumstances of CC's presidential run there were no opportunities, no openings, no possibility of holding his feet to the fire, nothing. You're still mad about that ad from 1993 aren't you? Admit it.
You prefer to await time travel and 7,000 heretofore undiscovered signatures, and crying in your beer. Amazing.
I have news for you: We now have nothing, no opening, no possibilities, no hope of moving forward. We're in far worse crap than we were six months ago, one year ago, etc. And just wait. By mid 2018 you'll be lighting candles at St. Alphonzo's, wishing that CC could run again.
I wonder how some of you guys get through life, bitter and resentful, spiteful and dogmatic, unforgiving to the point of cutting off your own noses, unwilling to take advantage of the silver linings, few as they may be.
But don't feel so bad, our state leadership is right behind you. Encouraging you, lecturing on theology and constitutional law, riling you up, scoffing and threatening nobody, for nothing.
Welcome to the hard-assed, insane world of New Jersey gun culture.
We should change the tagline of these forums to, "And through out efforts they all soiled their drawers."
I agree, considering the bevy of guns bills that have been proposed in the last few years, once CC is out and a Dem is running the show, expect 10 round mag limits and a full "assault weapons" ban, both with no grandfathering. Also likely is a prohibition on internet sales of ammo, ammo limits and perhaps background checks for ammo as well. One thing that is sure, NJ will lead the nation in gun laws.

There is no issue and no confusion about where and when you can possess hollowpoints. The law is as clear as it is for handguns, and quite similar.
I didn't see any mention that retired police officers couldn't carry hollowpoints in contrary to federal LEOSA legislation. Maybe NJ has finally accepted that they can't restrict that for RPOs

Hopefully she'll get a pretrial intervention from the Hudson County prosecutor
As long as she has no prior criminal record, as per the AG directive, they may have no choice but to give her PTI.
-
It was from the internet.....so it must be true.
-
Unless you are a famous celebrity or are juiced in with a state politician, you will never rise to the level of "justifiable need" in NJ.
-
Great news. Glad Christie did the right thing and gave this man his life back.
-
It's probably the most ubiquitous rifle cartridge in the US, due to the popularity of the AR platform, that's why it was picked first. If it is banned, expect them to go after other popular rifle ammo as well.
-
Buy backs are a good way to get a few bucks for old junk firearms. That's usually what is turned into these things. Old, rusty, half broken crap that people find in their attics.

If the P2P was ever going to go away, it would have been during the last 3 years when applications for handguns were peak and PDs were neck deep in applications. The state did help PDs a bit though. They made P2Ps able to be printed on dot matrix printers. Now that's what I call NJ progress!!
-
Toms River only makes you do the criminal history check every 2 years.
-
Possibly a good opportunity to pick up a quality gun for a bargain, but watch some Barney Fife half wit try to arrest you on some BS charge.
Not really, most of the weapons turned in are rusty junk.
-
Great way to destroy evidence
They are checked for use in any crime before destroying them.

For anyone questioning if someone would NOT get charged with a crime... Here is an excerpt from a case in 2008 where a gentlemen defending his home was NOT charged with a crime.
The 66-year-old homeowner has hired attorney Evan F. Nappen of Eatontown, who specializes in gun law. No charges have been filed against the homeowner.
Ocean County Medical Examiner Dr. Hydow Park described the manner of death as a “homicide,” said Capt. Thomas Hayes of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office. The manner of death can be listed as one of five designations: homicide, suicide, natural, accidental and undetermined.
A homicide designation indicates that one person caused the death of another. “Homicide” does not determine criminality, Hayes said.
Nappen said he is prepared to defend his client, who he said was well within his rights to shoot the intruder, Tucker, in “self defense.”
Nappen said his client was “truly afraid” for his own welfare when he found Tucker in his home.
“He is not someone who, in any way, is happy that he had to cause harm to another person,” Nappen said of his client. Tucker’s passing “is not something that makes him happy. But, when it comes down to it and your life is in danger, you have to defend yourself.”
New Jersey law states that an individual who discovers an unwanted person in their home has the right to presume they are in “imminent danger” and to take the steps to protect themselves, Nappen said.
“If they are in your home, there is a presumption of imminent danger,” Nappen said. The law puts a heavy burden on the prosecutor to prove that the intruder posed no threat to the homeowner who lawfully defends himself, he said.
“He was definitely in fear of his life and rightly so,” Nappen said.
This also happened in Ocean County. This county is not usually know for over zealous prosecutions. Other counties are quite a different matter.

So exemption (2) above talks about "keeping" the ammo at home. Doesn't mention "using" the ammo... food for thought there...
I just load up with Hornady Critical Defense instead, which is (unofficially at least) not considered hollow point.
If you're worried about using hollow points, then CD rounds are no different. The statute mentions "dum dum" rounds which are any round that designed to expand. There they are the same under the law.

It doesn't matter. They shouldn't be trying to ban any of it.
I guess they don't want armed gunman going on a rampage wearing body armor that impervious to any of the weapons the police carry. Makes sense to me.
-
From what I read, it was only for level III and above. Soft body armor that cops wear is IIIA, which is less. The stuff they are going after is for rifle rounds, like the military uses.
-
Never cared for the place, virtually no inventory and the range had a weird smell to it. Seemed shady.

Anyone see this article? It's not particularly flattering to NJ gun owners.
"Gun Seller Backs Down on Smart Gun Plans After Threats"
"New Jersey Democratic state Sen. Loretta Weinberg, said Friday she would ask the legislature to drop the three-year mandate if the National Rifle Association, which opposes smart gun technology, promises not to block development and sale of the weapons."
I wouldn't trust her as far as I could throw her. Sure they might drop the mandate now, but once a few smart guns come on the market, I could see it being reintroduced and depending who is governor, passed once again into law.

They are probably going to amend the bill to "address our concerns."
Some of the rumors I've heard:
1. They will grandfather existing magazines.
2. They will amend to exclude tube fed .22LR (already amended I believe)
3. They will provide a "magazine exchange" to placate an obviously pissed off Anthony Colandro.
4. They'll open a compliance window so people don't become overnight felons.
Of course they may do none of thls.
I think what would be sensible is if they would amend it to only apply during the commission of a crime, as an add-on charge. That would be a compromise I would accept.
I could see 2 & 4, the others, no way.
National reciprocity?
in Current New Jersey Gun Laws Discussion

Or, more likely, NJ, under a probable Democratic governor, would become a "no issue" state. If you don't allow CC, then the reciprocity law would not apply. I imagine the other anti gun blue states would also follow suit.
