  1. Hey all,

Brought it to Gun For Hire in Woodland Park and the gentleman there had me back up and running in 10 min no charge. No wonder this is may favorite range.

    So professional and so friendly!

    Thanks for the help all

Here's an actual model 99 manual.  The slide stop spring hooks around the rear trigger pin, as i thought, to secure in place.  You need a punch to knock the pin out and then tap back in.  Exploded diagram page 28

Thanks! I have that pin out but am having a hard time getting it all to go back in and sit correctly. I will look at it again this weekend when I have some time.

    Appreciate the response!

Worst case you take it to the gunsmith after you try. I think you got this bud. Give it a shot

Thanks for the vote of confidence! lol

Without having it in my hands I'm guessing that the large trigger pin has to be pushed out.  The loop facing front is probably intended to hook around it.  The flat spot to the rear of the spring goes under the slide stop to apply upward pressure on it.

I don't think anything is wrong you just some how dislodged the slide stop spring.

That seems correct. Just not sure how to put it back. Don't want to damage anything trying to put it back.

I don't know if Manny at the bullet hole is still doing work but for something like this he may do it.

Thats where I purchased it almost 15 years ago. I will call them tomorrow and ask. Thanks.

You tube it. I think you're gonna have to pull the trigger group.

If this occurred on my gun, I would consider replacing that spring.

I'm not comfortable doing all that. Can anyone suggest a gun smith in my area? I might as well have what ever needs replacing replaced and cleaned. This was my first gun when I turned 21 its got thousands and thousands of rounds through it with zero issues. My favorite piece by far.   Thanks all

Reload the pic it is only popping up a thumb nail and I really can't see--perhaps others can.

If it's the slide catch spring that needs to be reinstalled--then just look at the manual or google it.  There will be many videos.

    Heres the armerors manual.

    http://stevespages.com/pdf/s&w_m&p_armorer's_manual.pdf

frame dis/assembly starts on page 18.

This is a different gun than what I have. I will look into it to see if they are similar in build. The SW99 videos seems to be few in number as I was looking into it last night.

    Thanks

Sorry, as for the picture it kept saying my upload was too big so I kept resizing it to get it to go and I guess its now really small lol

  10. Hey all,

I think I got a bit too aggressive when using the brush on the lower while cleaning and unseated the small spring that engages the slide release. I'm not sure how it goes back in and don't want to force it as it seems parts for these things are few and far between.

The circled part should be under the slide release arm to give it tension and I'm not sure how to get it back under there.

Anyone familiar with this firearm? If not, can anyone recommend a gun smith in the North Jersey area (Wayne, Caldwell, etc)

    Thanks all.

  11. I think as long as you keep them locked up and hidden, and take the advice I and others have given, you shouldn't have a problem transporting them and staying overnight. Of course, it is a risk that you might be stopped, but, if you take the route I mentioned, it is less likely that you'd be stopped for something other than a traffic violation, of which you are, ultimately, in control.

BTW, if I may ask, from where are you starting that it takes 8 hours? From my former home near Hackettstown, it was 1/2 that time to arrive at the Captial Beltway. I would Drive Rt. 57 to US-22 and town the Penn.Tpk. Northeast Ext. I-476, to I-495 to I-95 and then down the route I mentioned above. 4 hrs max.

Im in North Jersey, but I meant 8hrs to where I go in NC.

  12. I was in the same situation yesterday.

I spend be holiday in the outer banks, and my wife wanted to stay over in MD. I told her hell no and we stayed a few miles down the road in VA!

My intention was to find a place in VA to spend the night and do something with the family but after seeing what the Gaylord had to offer I couldn't pass it up. My twins are going to love the ice slides and sculptures and all the activities they have going on.

  13. ^^^^^^

This. And avoid traveling through the Harbor Tunnels... which you should be able to do, if you are going to the Gaylord.

If this is the Gaylord National Harbor Convention center, 201 Oxford St. Oxon Hill, MD 20745, then it's perfect. Take the following route:

If you're crossing the Del. Memorial Bridge, or coming down I-95 from Penn., then

    1) Take Del Route 1 to Del. Route 896 West.

    2) Follow Route 896 West to US 301 South.

    3) Follow US 301 South all the way through Del, and Enter MD there.

    4) Continue on US 301 South All the way to where it meets US 50 W and across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.

    5) Continue on US 50 West through to the Capital Beltway (I-495).

    6) Take The Capital Beltway (I-495) South to Ex. 38, and that should dump you within a couple of miles to the Gaylord.

The point being, You want to avoid the Harbor tunnels. The MTAP use ALPR cameras which can tag you as a FL CWFL owner, if you've had yours for a long time. Refer to this Thread about John Fillipidis.

Thanks for the info. I am just going to leave them home this time since I'm stopping in MD. I always drive straight through as it's only about an 8 hour drive so it's never been a concern I lock them up appropriately and go on my way. Since I'm stopping this time not worth the headache of trying to bring them. My cousin who lives there has guns so I'll just use his.

  14. You can't have your guns in MD unless you are protected by FOPA (Federal firearm owner's protection act) which protects you from MD laws as long as your guns are locked up and separate from the ammo AND you are TRAVELING THROUGH Maryland. As soon as you stop in MD, you are no longer traveling THROUGH and FOPA no longer protects you. If you stop, you must follow MD law which says you can't have your guns.

    Just don't stop in MD.

Yeah, thats the way I interpreted FOPA and the MD laws when I looked them up as well. So no guns this trip. O well. Merry Christmas all!

  15. Hey All,

    Merry Christmas!

    Question...

I am going to NC this week coming up, however I will be stopping at a hotel in MD overnight (The Gayloard National Harbor).

I always take some of my guns with me as we do a lot of shooting when we are in NC. I have my FL CCW and know MD doesn't recognize it. So my question is, can I stop overnight in MD with my firearms (I double lock them, bore locked inside of a locked case with ammo in a separate locked container)?

I go to NC a lot but have never stopped overnight, I always drive straight there.

I want to take them with me so we can go shoot but I'm thinking its not the best idea with the stop overnight in a state that doesn't recognize my permits.

    Thoughts?

  16. Mostly what I like about GFH/WPR is the completely friendliness and professionalism of every single employee.  I've never seen even the slightest hint of rudeness, shortness or any negative behavior from anyone there, and they must have 20+ people working there most of the time.  After your second trip, the RSO's are more like helpful friends who keep out of your way than RSOs.  It's much different that all the other ranges I've been to.  Most ranges have some nice RSO's and some assholes.  There are 0 of that kind at GFH.

I agree, I have been going at 8am for open on either Saturdays or Sundays and even though Im like the first person through the door at 8am on a Sunday the staff has been nothing short of top notch!

  17. Yes, it was PMC.  I guess it was a fluke, one time issue.  I just don't like to be overcharged x2 for ammo.

I try to buy PMC for all my guns when its on sale. I have NEVER had a problem with it in any of the handguns or the AR.

The ammo when I purchased one time was x2 as it paid $30 for .40cal which is a bit excessive. That would really be my ONLY slight complaint about GFH, everything else has been absolutely great.
