  1. I installed this exact endplate and think it's a great mounting point for the rear position. I really prefer it over the rear stock mount for balance and handling. My only issue is that the QD swivel is constantly getting in the way when I grab the grip. I've got the QD mount in the CTR so I can always use that.

  2. Thanks guys, I think I'll start off with some standard velocity first and look at the results. This pistol was just a plinker for me at first. Now I want to see what it's really capable of with the optics. I'll start sampling some of the match ammo as well. There are some interesting articles out there about sub-sonic bullet stability with the .22lr. They say breaking the sound barrier causes waves and then leads to a disrupted flight path. I noticed that all match ammo is 1150 fps or lower. I'll post results as they are available.

  3. Just started dialing in a Weaver 2 x 28 scope on my MK III Competition Model. Benchresting at 50 yds is the distance. Started out with Federal American Eagle copper washed HP's with poor results (3 inch groups) Next was the CCI Mini Mag RN which brought me down to a 2 inch group. Both of these ammo types were high velocity. I'm pretty sure these groups will become smaller with a standard velocity round. Different guns will shoot the same ammo diferently as we all know. Anyone have any experience with any of the different types of .22lr match ammo out there. Just looking for a starting point.

  4. Just finished this two weeks ago. Bushy M4gery upper and lower, no muzzle device, DPMS lower parts, Rock River BCG, Magpul CTR stock (pinned), MIAD grip, Troy Battle sights, H2 Buffer, Badger Ord Tac Latch, Pulling my hair out trying to figure out which handguard/rail to buy. Eotec next. Shoots like a dream

  5. Refurbished SKS's will have a square box with a diagonal line through it on the receiver cover over the year. There is a second type of re-finish mark that is similar but is diamond shaped with the point going up towards the muzzle. You can also find the mark on the stock as well. The Gunbroker rifle is at an angle so you cannot see the mark very well if it is there, maybe purposely so. It does however look refinished. Some were re-blued while others were given some sort of paint job which would include the bolt carrier and bayonet. The GB rifle definitely looks painted. I have a 1951 Russian Tula with no refurb mark on the cover, but it has a mark on the stock. The rifle has been re-blued and the bolt carrier is bright and shiny. Bayonet is blued as well. All numbers match. The bore also looks brand new. I think you will find them re-furbed in many different ways. I would stick to the Russian models if you can find them. They are going up in value, re-furbed or not. Check out this site, plenty of good info: http://www.yooperj.com/

  6. They usually go on the end of the guide rod to eliminate slide against frame battering. Used one on my 1911 and it started malfunctioning. Never used again. Would never use on a defensive handgun. Stock is always best for defense. I guess if you're blasting a ton of lead at the range, it can't hurt. Buffer Technologies makes one for the Ruger 10-22 which I use with no problems. Wilson Combat for 1911 below:

  7. I" ve got to agree with Pizza Bob. There is nothing like a Milt Sparks Versa Max II which I carry my Sig in. I do however love my TT Gunleather IWB for my G36. It's as close a match for the Milt Sparks as you can get. Any IWB with the belt loops spaced wide apart is going to distribute weight better and be more secure. The IWB's with the loops close together shift around a lot. Remember, the most important part of the rig is your belt. Make sure it is built for carrying a gun. http://www.thebeltman.net/

  8. I used Iosso Liquid many years ago for some old cases just as you described. Just dunk them in and then rinse with fresh water. I beleive it contains a mild acid. From what I remember, after you take them out, it leaves a sort of matte brass finish. A couple of hours in the tumbler and they look like 24K gold. Worth a try. Available at Midway, etc

  9. I just installed the Magpul MIAD Grip with alternate front and backstraps. I used the largest palm swell it came with. While it feels bigger in the hand than the standard A2 grip, I could still use it a little bigger for my hands. The best part for me is the beavertail on the backstrap which goes up the back of the lower. The storage plug in the grip is a nice feature as well. I shoot M4's all day at work and the standard A2 grip was killing my right hand. It's so small, I developed trigger finger in my ring finger that required a cortisone injection into the tendon. All cured now but I wear a gel padded grip glove to alter the ergonomics.
