    The J. City Mayor and P. Chief were ranting like lunatics. My prayers are with the families of the Officers who were shot in this tragedy.

    Again, they are targeting an inanimate object as the criminal in this case. All of a sudden, the pump shotgun becomes a demon. I'd be confident in saying that there are probably more pump shotguns in NJ than any other gun. As others have said, there is no magazine limit on the pump, until you get up to 15 of course.

    What would a good base AR recommendation be and build from there when funds are available ?

     

    Am I OK to start out with a Bushmaster or Armalite ?

     

     

    My 2 DPMS lowers came in today. From what I understand, there are only about four manufacturers making them. I'll bet that # will grow soon if it didn't already. Of all that I viewed at the York gun show, the DPMS had the nicest finish. There is Stag, Delton, CMMG, Bushmaster, DPMS, YHM, etc. I just chose the DPMS. Heard good things about them. $ 130.00 each. $ 65.00 for the lower build kits from Midway, DPMS also. Just ordered the DPMS flat-top upper. I like the YHM stuff as far as handguards go. Still looking for a carbine barrel with a mid-length gas system. If I can't get one, I may go with a gas piston system.

    No ammo but I've bought 4 handguns on GB. No problems at all. Smooth as butter. Make sure you check out the seller's feedback and number of sales. You can get a pretty good idea of who you are dealing with. If there is any doubt, you can email or call the seller. Best bet is dealing with someone who also has a retail store. The only issue can be gun condition as this can vary from seller to seller. You have the right to ask for more detailed pictures as well. If the seller refuses, move on to the next one.

    Sometimes I do forget to bring them but remember our wonderful NJ Law in regard to possession of a firearm:

     

    Under N.J.S. 2C:39-5, possession of ALL firearms is prohibited unless one has a NJ permit to carry a handgun or a NJ Firearm Purchaser ID card for long guns. Even if one possesses these licenses, under N.J.S. 2C:39-2b one is presumed not to be licensed until proven otherwise. It is up to the law abiding gun owner to prove later in court that he/she was in lawful possession under an exemption.

     

    Most of us will probably never have a problem but I think I'll make it a point to bring my paperwork especially if I'm doing training with a case full of handguns.

     

    Time to visit the PD and the FFL's Chad. If you want, I can hold on to all those guns for you until you get the copies. Just to be on the safe side of course :lol:

    Hey Chad. I always make a copy of the COE and PP after a purchase and store the originals in the safe. I take a copy of whatever I'm taking to the range or traveling with just in case of who knows what. You should be able to get a copy of the PP from your issuing PD with proper ID. The COE is held by the FFL on long guns so they should also be able to give you a copy. They have to keep the copy on-site for State Police inspection. Not withstanding that any of these entities is a POA, you should probably be able to replace a lost one with a copy.

    Just got back from the York, PA Gunshow. Stayed for Sat and Sun to keep Anthony from Gun for Hire company. Black rifle paradise at this show. P239 SAS .40 in my High-Noon the whole trip. Went out for dinner and the waitress places us at a table with our backs to the door.

    Wassup ? We politely moved to a booth with a good view of the establishment.

     

    It's not that I feel safer, It's the fact that I have the right to take control of the safety of my family, friends, and self if the situation arises. When I carry, my situational awareness is also up a bit over yellow. For some, it takes a while to attain that level. It can be fatiguing. I think I was always at yellow to begin with.

     

    A good drill for you guys waiting for the permit is to go out as if you are carrying. Scan your surroundings, glance at the people, observe what they are doing. Use all senses. If you have a sixth one even better. Read up on the subject of CC and take courses. There is very much to learn. I was suprised how many people I saw who did not dress for CC properly. I know they say that most common folk don't notice anything but these guys were printing big-time. I guess if you wear a tight white thin t shirt with a 1911 you can spot it a mile away.

     

    All in all, train, train, train, and study the craft in courses, books, and magazines. Even the weather is an issue for CC. Study and find out why.

     

    Safe shooting, and safe carry. Hope those permits come soon for you guys. Taking the wife and baby to Sesame Place in Langhorne next week. I'll have to check their policy. Maybe Elmo will be packing :lol:

    The good part about the .357 snubbie is that you can practice with .38's or .38 +p. A box of 50 125 gr. magnums out of the snub is going to be a rough outing. Blast, muzzle flash is like a flame thrower. But man does it look cool ! There are reduced flash loads as well. You'll need those for a defense load. In low light, you will temporarily blind yourself with a full-house magnum. If you can, go with an all steel snub in 357. The drawback is the extra weight but the extra mass relieves the punishment on you.

    I was also just thinking, that Para comes stock with 8 round mags. Try some good 7-round magazines in it. I know there are some good 8-rounders out there but maybe Mr. Browning liked 7 for a reason. Pistol hold is another thing to look at. A 1911 will show symptoms like you describe if it's limp-wristed or held loosly. Basically, your arm or hand takes up the momentum, not giving a solid foundation to cycle the action. I think I'm out of ideas. Let us know how it works out. Or better yet, get over to one of the ranges when we do an outing. We can all take a look and hopfully figure it out for you.

    Sorry to hear about you problems with the Para. As with any troubleshooting you should try and start with the simple and inexpensive solutions first. If you are only getting the FTF problem, it could be caused by the magazine problem you described. The mag dropping down a bit is going to keep the rounds from sliding into the chamber as they will hit the bottom of the feed ramp.

     

    1- The mag problem is first. Buy or borrow some high-quality mags and try them out. Start with ball ammo to start so you don't complicate things. If the problem stops, you could have had some out of spec mags possibly having a deviation in the mag catch slot.

     

    2- The mag catch itself or its spring could also be giving you problems if out of spec or damaged.

     

    That's where I would start. Remember, ball ammo for troubleshooting. If you are running fine, you can start with JHP's or other defense rounds. After these steps, you should look at your recoil spring. Weak or broken will not send your slide into battery hard enough to chamber a round. Slide to frame fit: if it's too tight, it's not easy to slam a round into the chamber.

     

    You also mentioned cleaning. I would recomend a good spray of gunscrubber or brake cleaner on the rails to get any grit out of there. Wipe down with a good quality lubricant/protectant. For the rails, a "Very Light Film" of Shooters Choice, MilTec, etc synthetic grease. There's a dozen out there to choose from. I put it on a cotton swab and run it down the length of the rails. No globs, just a light film.

     

    I think it's time for 1911Fan to chime in. He may have a few more 1911's than me. I wouldn't give up on that Para yet. It may be a simple fix.
