Ruger bought Marlin from the Remington sale.  This is an absolutely wonderful thing.  During the SHOT Show live stream with Maks, the Ruger rep said they're tooling up and starting to build Marlins at the Ruger factory.  Marlin will be keeping the name and the heritage - just  being made by people who actually care now.

New Ruger-made Marlins should be out later this year.

That is great news. I look forward to buying an 1895 from them. 45-70 has been my latest reloading obsession.

  2. I like using powders that can't be double charged without overflowing or filling the case for this exact reason. I have partially used pound of Titegroup that will probably never be used again. I overcharged one round using it years ago and fortunately it was a 38 SPL that I fired in a 357 Mag revolver. I did pull the entire batch and only that one round was overcharged.

  3. Does anybody here ever substitute small or large pistol magnum primers for small or large pistol primers? I see a lot of people saying that you must reduce the load when doing this by 10%. I use Winchester primers quite a bit that say they are good for regular or magnum loads and have never had an issue with either. There is a lot of anecdotal information posted but I have never seen real difference. The reason I am asking is that I have a lot (1000's) of magnum primers and am down to 7000 small pistol primers and have been considering using the magnum primers. There are some powders that cannot be safely reduced by 10% (W296 and H110).

HK has VP9 10 round mags from the factory.  You can find them on hkparts website.  I had the original ones pinned and ordered 6 more 10 round factory mags separately.  The factory 10 round mags can also be disassembled for cleaning whereas the pinned ones cannot.

Love the VP9, one of my favorites.

And infinitely superior to a revolver!  :)

I handgun hunt, no VP9 is superior to any of the revolvers I use. The VP9 is infinitely inferior from this perspective. :)

The restricted mags they sent me are 126mm.  They don’t fit flush.

I feel for anyone that has to buy s**tty restricted mags. I hope this doesn't happen to the rest of us free Americans as a result of the election.

  6. I have one and really like it. It is fun to shoot, accurate enough, and very reliable. Even most that are marked .223 are safe to shoot 5.56 (this is according to Ruger).

  7. I just received 8lbs of AA#9 yesterday from Powder Valley. It was ordered on 1/4 after reading this pos. I have been looking for this powder because I recently used AA#9 in 10mm, 357mag, 44 mag, and 500 S&W and was very pleased with the results. I normally use W296/H110 and have about 7lbs of W296 left but I really like the versatility of the AA#9 and could not pass up the opportunity. They did not gouge either, price was $168 for 8lbs total was 201.90 after shipping and hazmat.. I have been paying around $34lb locally but it hasn't been available.

  8. It is my local gun shop. I happened to stop in the day the guns were put on display. I may go back today to see a few more. They had a really nice Model 57 4" and a Model 29 no dash, and a Model 17 that are all in really nice shape. The guy that passed away was a serious collector.

  9. Here are my latest estate sale guns I just picked up on Thursday. A 6" 629-1 and a 686-3. I was going to put the stock grips that were in the box back on the 629 but after shooting it yesterday will be keeping the grips that are on it. The 629 has and incredible trigger and shoots very accurate. I did not shoot the 686 yet, but it seems to be just as smooth. I had the LGS set aside a S&W 15-2 4" along with a Model 25 Mountain gun for me on lay away. The store has 180 guns from the collection, mostly S&W pre-lock revolvers and a decent number of Ruger revolvers. I additions there were a few Les Baers, Colt 1911's and Colt Delta 10mm's.

I started reading this and it looks like legal jerk-offedness to me. I do not believe judges anymore. Judges have shown that they are all about self interest. I used to believe in the system but see that it is rotten to the core.

  11. After having the gun for a couple of weeks I can now say that this is the best autoloading pistol I own. It is extremely accurate and easy to shoot. I do not find the grip slippery at all. The grip is very positive. I do not like overly aggressive grip texturing and this is just about right for me. The only negative about the gun is the cost and availability of magazines.

Can anyone recommend from experience an LER/EER scope they've used with success?

I'm looking for a low-powered 'scope that I'll be mounting "scout style" on a shotgun. Fixed-power is my preference, 2X or 2.5X would be ideal. These models seem few and far between today, and some makers have thrown an "IER" (intermediate eye relief) model in the mix as well. Leupold or Burris would be my preference.

Something like this Burris would be ideal, just can't seem to find it anywhere in stock:

    https://www.burrisoptics.com/scopes/scout-riflescopes-series/scout-riflescope-2.75x20mm

Leupold modified their design over the years, this is the only fixed power they offer now:

    https://www.leupold.com/scopes/rifle-scopes/fx-ii-scout-ier-2-5x28mm

Just curious if anyone has any experience with either model.

    Thanks

Leupold does have a variable 1.5-4 power scout scope. It is very reasonably priced and the quality is excellent. It is the VX-Freedom Scout 1.5-4x2.

  13. I have a Leupold fixed 2.5 power scout scope on my Ruger Gunsite  Scout rifle, a Leupold 1.5-4 variable scout scope on my Steyr Scout rifle, and a Vortex 2-7 scout scope on my M1A Scout. I really like the EER setup and shoot it really well. It is very fast for target acquisition and also very accurate. I like the both eyes open shooting with the increased light gathering and magnification of the scopes.  It doesn't take much to get used to and feels very natural to me. Almost feels like shooting with my younger eyes.

That’s great. I never got my C Duo because I learned that there is a limited amount of red dots that would fit on the slide and I didn’t care for any of them. Many more choices of RDO for the double stack models.

How do you like the grip on the C2? I have heard mixed reviews on it. Some say the grip pattern allows a tight grip and others say the hard material is slippery and they can’t get a firm grip. Your thoughts ?

I went with the regular C2 due to the fact that I am still on the fence with red dots. The only gun I have with a red dot id the P320 X5 Legion and it has been an ok gun. I am still having a hard time not focusing on the front sight and red dots feel unnatural to me. I don't really like them on my ARs either (prefer low powered scopes instead).

I really like the grip on the C2. I don't find it slippery at all. The one thing I had to adjust to is that when I shoot a 1911 I like to rest my right hand thumb on the thumb safety but doing this with the C2 shifts my hand off the grip safety a little bit. I will shoot it some more this weekend and be able to give a more informed opinion on it.

  15. I received a phone on Friday from the gun shop letting call letting me know that my C2 was in and ready for me to pick it up. I shot it this weekend and put 100rds of mixed factory and reloads (115 and 124 grain). The gun functioned flawlessly. I think that this of going to me my daily carry gun. It is very accurate and east to shoot.

The second pic is with a Glock 19 for size reference.IMG_0010.thumb.jpeg.deb621a3735c1fdbe4f1c71efe32b691.jpegIMG_0011.thumb.jpeg.cb3e8bd1fe1e15c2eb40a1f161bf39d4.jpeg

34 out of 50 states authorize .22 caliber centerfire cartridges legal for deer hunting. Many meet the minimum of ft.-lbs. in energy for deer. Are they ideal for deer? In my opinion; no. Would you hunt deer with a .22 Hornet? Mmmmm, no.

But a .22-250, .220 Swift, .22 Nosler, .224 Valkyrie, and defunct .225 Winchester with the right bullet in the right twist barrel can be the ticket in the hands of a competent shooter being selective with shot placement. Unfortunately, all those variables need to be met in order to be successful.

I personally like .and hunt deer with 270, 30-30, .308, .30--06, 44 mag, and 450 Bushmaster. We are required to use a minimum of .23 caliber in VA. I am not sure about .223 for deer. Can they kill a deer, yes, but so can a 22LR. The only bullet I would use with a .223 for deer would be something like a Barnes TSX solid copper bullet. I like a slower big bullet for deer. My cleanest kills have been with bigger slower bullets. I would choose a modern inline muzzleloader over a .223 every time.
