  1. well, from more reading the original intent of this plan was to counter the threat of terrorists using a crop duster to spread a chemical or biological agent, so such a plane would not have passengers to worry about, as well as damage from the actual crash would not be too severe (though the area it crashed into would be highly contaminated, but at least it would be concentrated to one area instead of dispersed throughout the whole city) They have at least admitted that this plan would not have worked against large aircraft. Now in the situation that the plan was intended for it has a little better chance of success, but only 1*10^-42 of a percent in my opinion. Even in the movies this would not be a plan, this would be the desperate hair ball scheme that the heroes would come up with on the fly after all else has failed.

As for hairball schemes, even against a small aircraft a .50 will do next to nothing unless you manage to hit the engine (which is TINY in a small aircraft).

You'd be better off trying to fly the helicopter into any of the planes--large or small.

It's been said, and I'll repeat it....

  2. Yeah, water is your biggest enemy here in Jersey.

It seems this place floods at the slightest rain and the news reporters don't hesistate to squeal about 2 inches of standing water in the road.

I was in south FL for Andrew (1992) and central FL for Charley, Frances and Jeanne (2004). Other than Andrew (landfall with 130 mph winds), rain is the problem. I am doing nothing to prepare for this storm, except, I will avoid parking under any trees and will make sure that I have a fresh 6-pack to last the weekend.

  3. I saw the date. The Bill View does not seem to work now. In any case here was the process:

2/8/2010 Introduced, Referred to Assembly Law and Public Safety Committee

2/8/2010 Reported out of Assembly Committee, 2nd Reading

2/25/2010 Assembly Floor Amendment Passed (Burzichelli)

3/15/2010 Passed by the Assembly (75-0-2)

3/15/2010 Received in the Senate, Referred to Senate Law and Public Safety Committee

It seemed to have moved quickly at first but not sure why it stalled once it was referred on 03/15/2010. I will call the Senate on Monday to find out more details.

Don't bother calling. The Senate Law and Public Safety Committee is where all the laws that will give us our 2A rights back go to die. It'll stay there with all the CCW bills that are introduced every legislative year. :thsmiley_deadhorse:

  4. Here's a karma item that might be relevant to everyone's interests.

In order to qualify for this give-away, you must:

    1) Be a Premier Member here on NJGF AND

    2) Be a CURRENT, dues-paying member of a grassroots pro-2A organization (i.e. NOT the NRA). I would recommend NJ2AS or SAF. (I will require proof of this from the winner!)

That means, if you're not a member, now, you've got 1 week to join up!

I bought this Cobra FS 380 in pink partly as a joke, partly to see if I liked the .380 caliber and partly to give my wife some experience with a semi-auto. Turns out, the gun isn't as reliable as I want.

The bad: It fails to feed about once every magazine. Not really a big deal, just clear it and keep going. Some people have had luck with dremeling off the paint from the feed ramp or using different ammo. Also, the gun comes with a lifetime manufacturer warranty. So, instead of trying to fix it yourself, if it doesn't work with different ammo, you can send it back to Cobra and they'll take a shot (pun) at fixing it. Oh, and I didn't clean it after I shot it, so it's a little dirty.

The good: It's free, it goes bang, it comes with all the Sellier and Bellot .380 FMJ ammo that I have left (about 450 rounds), a magazine, a hard case and a cable lock.

I would prefer a face-to-face transfer, otherwise, you pay all shipping!

If you don't have any valid PPP's, I will hold the gun until the permit comes through.

If you want to be in the drawing, either post in this thread saying you want in, or send me a PM.

    DEADLINE: August 20, 2011 at 11:59 p.m.

    UPDATE:

I put everyone's name into a bowl and drew. Heaterbob, you came out! Congratulations!

I hope you enjoy the pistol.

  5. Nope she does not need it.

Here's a NJ statute to read for fun:

    2C:58-3.1. Temporary transfer of firearms

    1. a. Notwithstanding the provisions of N.J.S.2C:39-9, N.J.S.2C:58-2, N.J.S.2C:58-3 or any other statute to the contrary concerning the transfer or disposition of firearms, the legal owner, or a dealer licensed under N.J.S.2C:58-2, may temporarily transfer a handgun, rifleor shotgun to another person who is 18 years of age or older, whether or not the person receiving the firearm holds a firearms purchaser identification card or a permit to carry a handgun. The person to whom a handgun, rifle or shotgun is temporarily transferred by the legal owner of the firearm or a licensed dealer may receive, possess, carry and use that handgun, rifle or shotgun, if the transfer is made upon a firing range operated by a licensed dealer, by a law enforcement agency, a legally recognized military organization or a rifle or pistol club which has filed a copy of its charter with the superintendent and annually submits to the superintendent a list of its members and if the firearm is received, possessed, carried and used for the sole purpose of target practice, trap or skeet shooting, or competition upon that firing range or instruction and training at any location.

A transfer under this subsection shall be for not more than eight consecutive hours in any 24-hour period and may be made for a set fee or an hourly charge.

The firearm shall be handled and used by the person to whom it is temporarily transferred only in the actual presence or under the direct supervision of the legal owner of the firearm, the dealer who transferred the firearm or any other person competent to supervise the handling and use of firearms and authorized to act for that purpose by the legal owner or licensed dealer. The legal owner of the firearm or the licensed dealer shall be on the premises or the property of the firing range during the entire time that the firearm is in the possession of the person to whom it is temporarily transferred.

Oh, and WELCOME TO THE BOARD!

  6. Here's what I understand.

First, NJ statute says that your FPID is valid until you are a disqualified person. The statutes say absolutely nothing about changing the information on your FPID for ANY reason.

However, the NJ administrative code says that if you move, you must change your FPID address, also. It does NOT say your FPID is invalid, though, only that you must get the address updated. I'm unaware of a Rule syaing you must change your FPID if your eyes change color. :icon_mrgreen: Also, I don't know if there is a NJ Administrative Rule saying that you cannot still use your FPID if it doesn't match your driver's license, but I haven't read the whole code.

Either way, most FFL's are not eager to transfer to you if the info doesn't match between your DL and FPID. So, what does this mean?

Your FPID is still good and valid.

I don't know of a statute or regulation that says you have to update your FPID if your eyes change color.

FFL's (like Paul), probably aren't going to do an eye-color comparison between your DL and FPID.

It's your decision what you do with this info.

  7. When i find ants i feed them to my turtles...mwahahaha! Why let free food go to waste? :icon_lol:

Just don't try to feed fire ants to your turtle. It can turn out not so good for the turtle. :dead_turtle_icon.gif:

  8. Try them between Tropic of Cancer and the Equator :D

I don't know what those little brown bastard ants are in NJ but they seem to like sliding glass doors and biting me. But I'd take them in a heartbeat over the red ant hills down south. Or, past down south, leaf cutters, .50 cal ants, ant tree, ack! *shivers*

    *shivers*

    WORD, Mipa!

I grew up in FL. Fire ants are the worst. .50 Cal ants were bad, but too rare...along with tree ants (which, along with .50 cals, are actually wasps that sting, rather than bite.)

    E80: Nice kill! :icon_lol:

  9. yeah....Is Norway part of that treaty loving countries?

According to Wiki, Norway has a high civilian gun ownership for shooting sports and hunting. However, "There is no apparent public desire to introduce a concealed carry permit at this point in time, and there is no such license available to civilians."

Not that it would be much help, he attacked a children's camp, so most of the populace could not be armed, anyway. Talk about the epitome of a non-military target. What a coward.

Although, armed camp counselors might have helped.

  10. GUYS, in the USA, you are NOT Required to identify yourself...lose the slave mentality that NJ put on you.

ALso, that cop was very mature and seasoned, not like the 25yo's you see in NJ with a sleeve full of tattoos.

    Sorry, but you're dead wrong.

In the case of Hiibel v. Sixth Judicial Circuit of Nevada (2004, I think), the sole question was, under the US Constituion, whether the police can require you to give your name if requested.

In a 5-4 decision, SCOTUS decided that your name is not protected by either the US Const. 4A or the US Const. 5A. Thus, the police CAN constitutionally require you to give your name, when they approach you and CAN arrest or detain you if failure to give your name is violation of state law.

I don't know NJ's state law regarding this, and NJ's constitution may give you more rights than the US Const. But, as a US citizen, you must give your name to police when asked.

  11. Just watched this right before you posted. Albeit the people do look suspicious, but that is no excuse for how they were all treated. Especially the CCW holder / driver of the vehicle. The threats and things that came out of that LEO's mouth are absurd. I love the part on how he leactured the CCW holder that he should have pumped 10 rounds from his Glock 40 into him, and how his parter would be a good witness to the "execution". This guy needs to be taken off the streets before someone gets hurt and more people's rights are violated.

In addition, I'd like to know what RAS they had to institute an non-consented to search of the vehicle in the first place. Terry allows for a search of the driver's immediate area for weapons, but that other cop was digging all around.

Oh, there's so much that these two Badge-Clowns did wrong, it would take 2 hours to write it up.

From telling the "prostitute" to never come back to the area, to the search, to all of the threats to the CCW holder...it would be a long list.

  12. I don't understand why the neighbors are so quick to try and get him out. I mean if the man is legally residing in the home, then leave him the eff alone.

He's not legally residing in the house, that's the problem. He is a tresspasser (that's sort of one of the requirements of adverse possession). However, the neighbors don't really have any way to claim tresspass or to have him removed through a civil action (eviction/quiet title etc), because they don't have any rights to the house, so, they can't ask the police or the courts to remove him.

The only party that can ask the police to remove the guy is the owner of record (the mortgage company), which no longer exists. Perhaps the police could pick him up for criminal tresspass, but I don't know Texas law to tell you if he is committing that crime.

In the end, he's holding himself out as the owner of the property and daring the "owner" to file a lawsuit to evict him. I'm surprised the Texas adverse possession statute is so short (only 3 years)!!!!!

Best of luck to him, if he's smart enough to research and understand the law and diligent enough to do the research to find a property like this one where he is extremely unlikely to get kicked off of, he might end up being a really good neighbor to live next to.

Bunch of up-tight McMansion owners....well, that's a different rant. Never mind.

  13. I know this is all fun, but my inner prrick needs to bust on this....

  14. Why can't I get any reception on this shoe?

The guy is a regular at our poker games, I'll talk to him again before he wants to go shoot to gauge his experience. I wouldn't mind teaching him, but if that was the case, I'd rather do it one on one and not with four other novice shooters.

It depends. I took 3 novice shooters to the range. We only used one port and one firearm, NO NOVICE SHOOTERS ALONE WITH A FIREARM! I supervised the whole time, the RO at Bullet Hole was not only nice, but he took one of the shooters aside and let her (I'm sure it didn't hurt that it was a girl) shoot his side arm and helped teach her a bit more. It was a bit of a slow Saturday at BH, so he had the time. We all took turns and all had good, safe fun.

HOWEVER, none of my novice shooters were "Mr. Know-it-all" like you've got. I would gauge his behavior the next time you see him. If he doesn't appear open to instruction, tell him that's one of the conditions of using your guns, that he has to listen to every word you say.

It depends on your relationship with the guy, but it's worked well with all the novice shooters that I've introduced to shooting.

Good Luck, have fun and stay safe.

  15. At first, I was worried that you were admitting to having a suppressed M16. Then, I realized you live in a free state. :dancing:

I agree, tree climbing is one of the most liberating feelings, especially if you can get hold of a tall one and even moreso if you can get to spot where you can see far off in the distance. I haven't climbed a tree in about 14 years, but the memory of the feeling hasn't faded.

Glad you had some fun this weekend!
