Im planning the most significant handgun purchase to date (read as "expensive") and I can't seem to decide which 1911 to go with. My price point is around $1K (been saving for a while...) and I want a quality piece I can trust my life with. I also want it to be a commander or Commander/Officer hybrid. Two manufacturers that fit that price point are Smith and Sig. Can anyone recommend either or neither? NOTE: This will be used as a carry piece when I move to P.A.

I own three glocks... I have tried to convince myself to buy an XD or M&P, but the XD's bore axis is too high and I dont like the trigger. The M&P is nice, but I have heard a lot of horror stories with quality out of smith & wesson lately. All my glocks have been flawless. And every time i try to convince myself to branch out, i weigh out the options and Glock always wins. Why wasn't H&K on the list of tupperware? The price point?

Is 10mm really overkill (no pun intended) for self defense? Lunker... you should have sold the Dan Wesson to me! I would have taken it off your hands!

How are the Dan Wesson's anyway? Anyone have one? Looking for something to carry while I'm away in CT (live/work there 4 days a week) so the Bren Ten and the G20 might be a little big haha.

I have one more handgun permit to use up and I'm really itching for a 10mm. Ideally I want to get a Dan Wesson Bob Tail Commander 10mm, but they don't make them anymore! Anyone have other recomendations for a 10mm? Might go with the glock 29 sf, but the 1911 platform is so much more appealing. Thanks!
