1. Yes, you may move anything that is legal in NJ that you already own (as long as it was legally purchased while resident of another state) to your new residence. The FPID is mostly just for purchasing ammo and long firearms. That being said, once you get settled and have your license transferred, it is highly recommended that you apply for one and carry it whenever you are going to the range just to avoid any potential issues with mis/uninformed LEO. Having an FID technically allows you to carry a long gun unloaded, but I'm not sure I would recommend testing this out...
2. That owner is incorrect. Like I said above, as long as you legally purchased them while a resident of another state and they are NJ compliant (magazine capacity, evil features, etc.) you may transfer them unloaded DIRECTLY to your new residence - you're technically not allowed to make any stops or deviations on the way.
3. This would be a question for an attorney (Evan Nappen?). My guess would be that if you're still a Florida resident on paper, you would have to be in the process of establishing new residence here. But, IANAL.
4. From everything I've ever heard, M1 Carbine is explicitly banned here. Again, consult with a lawyer to be sure. If it's on the banned list, it doesn't matter whether it has evil features or not - it's banned.
Best of luck. This state almost requires a JD to be able to navigate its gun laws.

Hey, guys. Unfortunately, my wife's grandmother is in the hospital and she's been up there all weekend long, morning to night, leaving me alone with the kids. I wasn't comfortable bringing them to such an event and my 5 year old would have just whined the whole time, defeating any chance I had at making some kind of verbal or even non-verbal stand. My 7 year old would have been great, though, as she excitedly attended the Trump 100 day rally in Harrisburg with me back in the spring. She stood in line with me for 2 hours to get in and never got antsy or bored. 2 years of age makes such a difference in maturity and willingness to participate in political activism!
Unfortunately, because of everything going on at home, I didn't even make it to Mass yesterday and I really wanted to see whether they included a reminder for this event during post-Communion announcements. As some of you have suggested, I have definitely considered approaching my church with a request for time to do a pro-family safety seminar or something of the sort. But, like some of you also mentioned, I want to make sure I find a few more families who feel the same way. The problem that I foresee is that, while many families like us may technically be members of my church, most of them probably don't attend Mass regularly and therefore feel disconnected with the parish and don't see or hear these announcements. If I wasn't attending regularly, I would never have known about this and would never have gotten annoyed about anything.
I need to find others who are just as passionate and angry about it. I'm trying to figure out how to get there...there isn't a bulletin board for public announcements or anything at the back of the church or anything. I wear my Trump 45 knit hat to Mass every week in the winter and have not gotten any comments (either way) on it. I may have to start wearing my Molon Labe shirt or some other explicitly pro-2A gear and see whether anyone says anything.

Ok, I'm losing my mind about my "Catholic" parish, Christ Our Light (formerly St. Peter Celestine) on Kings Hwy in Cherry Hill, and the way they're handling political events. This is the third time in less than a year that they've endorsed radical, anti-2nd Amendment rallies or events held by the lunatic, leftist, ultra-liberal Universal Unitarian Church of Cherry Hill which is just across the street. Today I received Christ Our Light's e-newsletter and the attached picture is from a screenshot at the bottom of the newsletter. I've previously emailed them or had personal discussions letting my disagreement and disgust be known to the pastor and other priests and staff and I did the same immediately after receiving this email as well. Does anyone have any other suggestions for how to handle a radical church/pastor such as mine, short of leaving (due to the convenience, it was my parish growing up, and my kids are enrolled in CCD there and really enjoy the program and seeing their friends there)?

If I were you,
* Request the PD put their policy in writing. If the list of prescribed forms is on their website, PRINT the website page, highlight the illegal portion. Be sure to highlight any words that "imposes" such as "must", "should" etc.
* Print / Make Copy of the relevant NJ statue and AG Directive if any
* Hand deliver two copies of the relevant NJ statue and AD directive if any. Note down date & time of delivery.
Then,
* Think through cover letter, spend some time on it. Make it professional looking, serious but do not hold back.
* Be clear in how the practice in question violates NJ law and your individual rights
* Decide if you want to file anonymously or not.
* Note down names of PD contacts, who you spoke to, when etc. Include name and designation in to the cover letter / complaint
* At the end of cover letter / complaint, indicate who else got a copy of this complaint (see below)
1. Original to County IA
2. Copy to NJ AG
3. Copy to NJ Gov Office
4. Copy to PD Chief
5. Copy to Mayor
Anonymously sounds good. That I did not know. Thank you for this advice. I may follow it to a T. Regarding the very first bullet in your post, check this out: https://www.cherryhill-nj.com/DocumentCenter/View/3413

And, of course, page 3 is the illegal form itself. It's all there in plain sight and in writing on the official Township website. I may not have to make any trip to the PD and may be able to do all that you suggested from the comfort of my house. In fact, it would be great to get others on this, too. Imagine slamming the prosecutor's office with 25, 50, 75 anonymous complaints about this. Although, as you suggested, I do need to hand deliver copies of the statute and directive. But, wouldn't an email copy be even better if I can solicit a response from them, acknowledging receipt?

Ok, guys - I hope to make it over there next week to request new forms. I've tried the whole informing them that it's illegal thing, etc, and they just insist that it's their form and they won't process the application without it. Please help me come up with a game plan so that I can execute this as efficiently as possible in my short time off next week. Feel free to modify, but this is my first shot at it:
1. Request the PPP forms in person
2. Upon receiving the next-of-kin form, inform them that it is illegal and quote "All Police departments should be aware that N.J.S. 2C: 58-3.f states, in part, “There shall be no conditions or requirements added to the form or content of the application, or required by the licensing authority for the issuance of a permit or identification card, other than those that are specifically set forth in this chapter.”
3. Upon being told that "this is our form, that law does not apply", contact Camden County Prosecutor's Office and file a formal report? I've never done this, so I'm looking for advice for how to proceed or what specifically to request.
4. Next step? NJ2AS and ANJRPC were informed of this (and acknowledged it) several years ago and have not taken action. I have US Law Shield. Should I contact Nappen through it? Or should I do that as step 3 before going to the prosecutor?Anything else you guys recommend? I'm a newbie to filing a legal complaint.

Yup. I quoted this directly to them and they simply said, "No. This is OUR form. If you don't fill it out, we don't process your application." Period. They truly don't care that it's against the law. Like I said, we had stuff on hold at two different FFLs and didn't have 12-24 months for this to play out. Plus, this is Camden County. If you know anything about politics here, the county prosecutor would consider it a joke. Like I said, though, now that I have no plans to purchase anything, I may try pursuing that route some day when I have time. Of course, that means taking off work to arrive during their limited business hours to get a form, spending the $20+$2 of my own money for the background check/investigation, and starting the process from there. I don't object to doing any of that, but it is something on the back burner right now compared to other things in my life. Personally, a form that my wife signs and her form that I sign is not an issue for us since both of us shoot. But from a legal standpoint, and in other households where it may be a problem, I agree totally that this form needs to go. Keep in mind that there are hundreds, probably thousands, of Cherry Hill residents who have also filled out that form and not refused for the same reasons - they already had purchases lined up and didn't want to lose them.
If I have some time next week (with time off from work), I may try to make it over there. I don't want to hijack this thread more than I already have (sorry OP!!!), so please follow me over to an old thread specifically about Cherry Hill where I can solicit some advice and a game plan from you guys:
-
That is very sad. It's also sad that his funeral service will be held at the anti-gun, liberal whacko Unitarian Universalist Church in Cherry Hill. This is the same church that perpetually keeps out a huge BLM banner and has organized protests and marches against "gun violence". In fact, they even had a huge banner on Kings Hwy about "March to End Gun Violence". They're part of the lunatic fringe left, unfortunately, but it will be great to stick it to them by having a bunch of pro-2A guys show up and honor one of our own!
Whoever actually goes - make a point to speak positively about his 2A activism in front of all of the congregation. It would be his final F.U. to antis!

I agree that it's illegal and I informed them of this. They told me that without filling it out, they would not process further. My wife and I (ironically, each other's next of kin) both had stuff on hold at different FFLs and couldn't pick them up without permits. While it sounds heroic and awesome to refuse, go to court, pay thousands of dollars out of pocket to sue them, and then finally get the permits 2 or 3 years later, we decided that this time we would want to take ownership of our already-purchased goods.
That being said, it's been on my to-do list to go back there, apply for more permits (that I may not necessarily need for any specific purchase in the near future), and then try this step. But I was promised by ANJRPC 3 years ago that they would add Cherry Hill to their project strikeforce or whatever they named it to force the township into compliance. I figured if they were willing to do it, I would see how that played out. Crickets since then.

17 hours ago, 1LtCAP said:ALMOST sounds like the local pd trying to add something extra, like cherry hill was adding extra forms.......
Last time I obtained a permit (a few years ago), Cherry Hill was still adding the next-of-kin form - and refused to process without it being return and notarized. Does anyone have information on whether this is still taking place in C.H.? I could try to swing by next week when I'm off and request new paperwork, even though I'm not submitting for anything, and see if they still insist on that form.
-
I've been there a bunch of times, but the most recent was back in 2011. It was pretty well maintained, then. They had put up a new wooden platform. The rifle range is relatively short, but it's adequate for sighting and some plinking. It was never crowded when I was there and the sand pit area is large enough for about 2-3 groups to show clays at the same time. Only once had a CO approach us and he was very friendly. We showed him our hunting licenses and had a friendly chat for a few minutes. If you go, please post an update because I'd like to take my 7 year old out so she can learn how to shoot her new Pink Crickett, but it's about an hour drive and I'd hate to get there to find out the place went to hell.
-
Woah! Should my wife and I both be expecting these? I renewed and she got her initial license from them this past summer. How long ago did you get your license?
-
Since it's so new nobody has "tested" going back to FEMA. But your idea of pre FIRM grandfathering is going away anyway. Rates increase 20% a year until no subsidy is keft anyway.
I don't understand why guys "wait". It's costing you $2 grand more a year. I'm over $6 grand ahead since I started. Don't you understand your thinking of reasons to stay in the most expensive insurance industry ever? The math doesn't add up. Down the street the guys basement filled up during Irene. His payout was $9k. He paid $3500 a year fir a $9k loss. That's like 30% cost vs payout ratio. That's not insurance that's robbery. Don't think of reasons to stay with the thief. Think of ways to run away from the thief.
What do you pay like $900 a year to protect your home from burning down? How can you be paying over $3k for a flood? Is where you live a flood going to destroy your ENTIRE house? That's the point. The FEMA rate is based on total destruction of your hiuse. So you determine whether you think your basement is at risk or water up to your roof. No way am I gonna pay $3500 a year for a basement flood loss where the max they will cut me a check for is ten grand.
It's not that I think LLOYDS is a better insurer than the US government it's that the FEMA rate is insane to me. It's robbery.
I definitely agree - but my savings is not that extreme. In FEMA, I'm paying $1600/yr. Private quote was $1100. Obviously I should move immediately to private. However, the reason I haven't gotten the elevation survey is that I fear that it won't get us out of AE. If we're still AE, I'm out $400 (or more) since per FEMA rates, there's no reduction unless you're above the BFE. Ours is 33'. My guess is that we're going to be close, either just over or just under. I only have coverage to my mortgage principal because I honestly don't think a worst-case flood would do more than create some pooling in our basement.
My question is whether our rate for private insurance will decrease if we aren't above the BFE, but if we are close. Let's say we're at 31' and BFE is 33'. Will private insurance grant us a rate reduction with an elevation survey showing this? FEMA won't reduce us at all unless we're +33'...32.5' doesn't cut us a dime. When I put in for the instant quote on the privateflood website, if I try to enter an elevation cert to get an idea, it asks for codes. I don't know what the codes represent and how to estimate, if I wanted to simulate the equivalent of 31' in a 33' BFE. That might have been too wordy, but I think it made sense. LOL.
-
That is a myth not a fact. If you let insurance coverage LAPSE you cannot go back.
Besides it will all be moot. The Flood Parity Act that is about to be signed codifies total bilateral switching.
Private flood will become primary insurance and FEMA will be last resort insurance. That is the goal.
Wow - that sounds great. I'm definitely going to start following this bill, then. So, let me get this straight (and I know, YANAL, so I won't bet the back on it without confirming officially, yada yada), but having COVERAGE, regardless of private or FEMA, will allow you to remain eligible for FEMA coverage in the future, for a pre-FIRM property?
Thanks again for all of the info. Admittedly, I haven't had the chance to do further research and have just been paying the FEMA rates since we moved in 5 years ago. I have planned to get an elevation survey since we're pretty high up, but every year, our discretionary spending has disappeared before I've had the chance...
-
This is great info. I'm currently paying about $1600 for $155k through FEMA. I call every year and have them lower it to cover just my remaining mortgage principal. The only catch that I read, after finding out about the private market from you guys, is that once you leave the FEMA backed coverage, you're no longer protected by the guarantee for pre-FIRM rates, should the private market deny you coverage or stop offering coverage in the future. Thoughts on that?
-
Facts never stopped a right wing/neo conman agenda either. My point: that type of speach is why even most moderate Democrats; whom generally speaking can be reasoned with, view gun owners as a bunch of nut jobs. I find it mind blowing that after all these years that most 2A activists haven't figured this out yet. Doomsday hyperbole and talking down to people never won anyone over. Every time someone says Libtard a moderate becomes an Anti.
Agreed 100%. Although I am in agreement with all of the tactical-dressed, camo wearing guys at all of these rallies, I feel that we would make much more progress for our cause if we showed up dressed business casual, with smiles on our faces and a friendly attitude. We're all ambassadors for a cause and ambassadors don't make any headway trying to intimidate or scare the people they're trying to persuade.

Kharis Sepulveda runs a great course. I think he still uses Ft. Dix for the range portion.

I'm not too worried about the NJ2AS-influenced wording. If all else fails, removal of that wording can be used as a compromise to get the bill to pass. As long as it doesn't get neutered completely, we should still see a huge improvement (assuming the non-resident part of it doesn't get pulled out, too). I don't want to see that wording removed, but if it comes down to conference, it might get removed anyway since the wording isn't consistent between both House and Senate versions.
-
Thanks for the report! We have family near there and visited S&W when they were still doing tours back in the 2009 time frame. That was an incredible tour and it's sad to hear they stopped doing it. But I hadn't realized that there was a Springfield Armory National Historic Site. I'll definitely put it on the list for next trip up there.
Much appreciated!
-
Holy crap! I'm apparently way overpaying for FEMA backed insurance rates. It's much lower on http://www.privatemarketflood.com/. Thanks so much for pointing this out! Is the concept of private flood insurance new? When we purchased, everyone told us that you had to go with FEMA rates because they were all that was available. Is there a downside to using the private market? Will I lose my pre-FIRM status if I leave the FEMA system to go with a private plan like this?
-
Hey, guys...I know this is almost a lost cause at this point, but my buddy and I are driving down for the Inauguration next week. We're trying to get a pair of the free tickets for the ticketed viewing area, however we're striking out with our US reps. The only way to obtain them is through a US Congressman or US Senator.
Is there any chance that anyone out there somehow has two tickets that he/she isn't going to use and would be willing to give them away? Thanks in advance, guys!
-
For flood insurance, the premiums are set by the Federal government. The different carriers are more or less administrators who collect a % to issue and manage your policy. Shopping around won't make any difference for flood, from what I understand. If you find out that it does matter, please let me know since I'm in the same boat...damn pre-firm flood zones...

Thanks for the update! However, as a subscriber to this thread, I receive the updates via email. In a text format email, your links are loaded with subliminal messages. What is that all about? Most of them are very weird and/or have no relevance to our cause. I isolated all of them (each segregated between hyperlinks). Make sure to read through the entire list and you'll see what I mean. If anyone wants to see the original email, for proof that I'm not making this up, PM me with your address and I can forward it to you.

so is it worth compltleying the (4) hour Utah course? then apply for Floridia? will that cover PA?
Yes, it is worth completing the course and getting both Utah and Florida. But, no, it will not cover PA if you are a non-resident in both UT and FL. As a PA non-resident and a non-resident carry permit holder from any other state, you'll only be able to carry in PA with TX and NH.
TX you need to take the class on Texas soil and then get your license. NH is pending the latest court action, hence this thread.
Check here for the latest reciprocity agreements in PA:

This is as passionate a forum as you're going to find within NJ. Well done. Good luck and welcome to this group! Many of us (myself included) are casual observers who seldom comment or post. I'm feeling chatty today, so you ended up getting my welcome first!
