  1. There are a lot of lardos in the USA, way more than most other countries in the world. Comes from eating way too much bad food and sitting around watching TV and playing video gams. even 15 o 20 years ago, there were not as many fatties around. NJ is pretty bad, but I have seen way worse in Walmarts in PA, MD and GA, as a few examples. Worst was Hinesville, GA Walmart. I have flashbacks of some of the hugely overweight people of all races and income levels. Gah, I need some mind's eye bleach now

Or from sitting in front of computers wasting time on forums................oh, wait, nevermind...............

  2. OP - before you put to much faith in what you were told by the NJSP FIU, I would suggest calling them again and asking them the exact same questions..............what you will figure out is that you will get different answers every time you call, sometimes the answer will be a complete opposite answer from what you were told before - I know this from personal experience. The references by others here, that you should get what the NJSP told you in writing was more rhetorical in nature than anything..........you'll never get it.

  3. The whole food donation thing is nice to see.

I hope you had a better gun show day than I did, Paul. I haven't been to a show in over a year and thought it would be an easygoing saturday morning spent walking around. Instead, some moron pulls the trigger on a loaded pistol about 15 feet from me. Thankfully he accidentally shot himself and no one else. My ears were still ringing on the way home.

I meant to buy a lottery ticket today too but didn't get a chance to.

I was there when that happened as well, but fortunately I was in the opposite corner of the main room when it happened. From where I was, it wasn't clear what the noise was, I guess all the people in between and the fact the round went into the floor muffled the sound some along the the echo off the metal roof made it sound more like a metal cabinet fell over or something. The room got really quiet for a minute or so with people looking around asking what was that? Then everyone seemed to keep on shopping. It wasn't until later when I talked to a vendor that was near where the ND happened that I found out what it was. He said himself and a lot of other around him were checking themselves to make sure they weren't hit. Huge relief no one got hit.

  4. I also thought of that "where are you going?" question.  I would have to think of neutral response for that - I would want to be as cordial as possible.

I will keep a few mags in NJ and a few mags in PA and transport without ammo.  Not worth risking anything bordering legality.

"to meet some friends", or just the name of the town your headed to (that happens to also have a range) or anything else that is a basic answer.

  5. So it sounds like the only way I can get HP to my apartment in NJ is purchase them in PA and drive directly to my home and keep them there.

For transporting the firearm between my homes in PA and NJ, my best bet is to have a separate gun and ammo bag, both locked.

Or, you can just use common sense when traveling back and forth by not volunteering what's in your vehicle if you get stopped, not answering questions like "where are you headed? or where are you coming from?" at all, or in a way that boxes you into a particular destination. Who's to say you are not always headed to a range in PA on your way out of NJ or coming from the same on your way into NJ.

If you are really worried about this, just keep some HP ammo and spare mags at your NJ residence and some more at your PA residence, and don't transport the HP ammo back and forth.

  6. Awesome, THANK YOU guys.  I just really want to make sure I'm being legit with this...

Also, I re-read the transportation statute - looks like I need to have my firearm and ammo in separate locked containers.  Interesting... This is the NJSP using the FOPA standard, which is more strict than NJ law, HG unloaded in a plastic shopping bag tied shut would be legal, ammo can be in the the same bag just not loaded into the pistol. Best practice is to use a gun case and keep the ammo separate, and keep both as inaccessible as possible.

Would it make sense to do the Voluntary Form of Firearms Registration at all?  Why would I want to register the firearm? Don't bother, you have nothing to gain by doing so.

Is it worth getting a NJ Firearms Purchaser ID Card for anything? HG ammo purchases in NJ, long gun purchases in NJ, less strict long gun possession rules. You could even get some handgun purchase permits while you applied since you are a dual NJ/PA resident under ATF rules, but  would you really want to bother doing that? If any of this will help you out or if you think you are going to end up in NJ full time at some point get an FPID card, otherwise it's just one more hassle for you to deal with in your life.

  7. Here is exactly what I was told when I took training earlier this year:

Magazine is a part of the firearm, hence loaded mag is illegal in NJ.This has never been established one way or another.  Moreover, it is illegal to transport mags in the same container with ammo. This is absolutely false, I would think Anthony and crew would know better than to say this..........  The safe way - mags and firearms in one container, ammo in another. As others have said, this is a best practice but not law.

  8. I moved from NJ to PA...

I make as much or more money than I made in NJ...

cost of living is far less (in NJ I paid $825 for a small 1 bedroom apartment, in PA I pay $850 and have a very large 2 bedroom townhouse with a deck and a garage/basement)

People are never really in a rush and are generally nicer..

There are some "drug issues" as there are anywhere... but for the most part crime is nonexistent... there are people that still leave doors unlocked..

government makes more sense in most cases... I had to register my vehicle I purchased.. it took literally 5 minutes and I wasnt required to fill out any forms or anything crazy.. in and out in less than 5 minutes with a signature..

Obviously very pro gun... pro freedom in general..

there are maybe a couple things I miss about NJ... but they are few and far between and I could NEVER imagine moving back...

I am certainly not miserable in any way...

I'm glad this worked out for you, but the reality for most working people in NJ is that they would need to take a serious pay cut to make the move to PA. I know with my business I would be lucky to make 25% of what I make in NJ, the demographic just isn't there in PA.

  9. A homeless person being able to keep a firearm with them without a carry permit is never going to happen in NJ for two reasons:

First, It's still a public space whether or not someone lists a park bench as an address or not. The homeless person does not own the bench nor have exclusive right to control it. The exemption in the law regarding carrying states: "about his residence, premises or other land owned or possessed by him", a homeless person would have none of these.

Second, If this would be ruled to be legal, what would stop any of us from claiming that the same park bench or a public street or every public place is our second or third or forth etc. address, and therefore we would be allowed to carry everywhere? What would stop any of us from claiming a park bench in PA as an address and then being able to buy full auto since we would then be a PA resident?

  10.

OK, I will give my input.  A MG-42 is not a user friendly off the shelf semi auto.  A kit build I would only do once I had a semi for a while and had something to reference off of.  I got my semi from Henderson Defense and they modified it to be NJ compliant.  It took years to get the gun to run the way it was supposed to.  I would always be playing with recoil springs, bolt heads, bolt wedges ect.... every range trip it was something else I tried to get it running.  I finally got it running like a top, and now consider myself very well versed in the world of the MG-42.  Even now, with all that I have learned, I would not want to do a kit build from a 100% receiver.

am i reading that right ? So you ended up building that kit ! Where did you find the receiver and who did the welding and milling for you   ?

I think he saying after buying a built one and needing to play around with it so much, he wouldn't recommend trying to build one.

  11.  I finally ran out of real black (my dad had many lbs of it that i've been working off of for a couple years now) and now i find out i can't get it anywhere.  Is there anywhere in Norh Jersey/eastern PA/southern NY still selling it?  Thanks.

Not in North Jersey, but  Gene Salomons in Farmingdale, NJ has Goex, and cheaper than Dixons from what I've heard. Probably the same distance as well depending on where you are.

  12. I don't think changing the barrel will increase the value......... most people don't want bubba-ed guns.

I'm not exactly sure how the Czech's modified vz52's to 7.62x39, new barrel? or a chamber adapter? (that have been know to have issues).

  13. Does anyone have a reference for a doctor to give a psych evaluation letter?

Someone I know (and no, it's not me) needs a letter that states they are OK to own firearms because of an (overblown) issue from when they were a child. We all know that most of the people that work in this sector are not pro gun, so if anyone knows a doctor that is pro gun, who would do a letter, it would help this guy greatly. Thanks

    PM me if you prefer.

  14. It's a vz 52, which stands for "vzor" which is Czech for "model" CZ is the manufacturer. These are also sometimes call the "she" rifle.

But to answer you initial question, they are interesting as a collector piece, but you'll need to scrounge for ammo, as only surplus is available. The ammo was made in both lacquered steel case and brass, both Berdan primed, so reloading is not simple. I find the lacquered steel case ammo sometimes gets sticky when the gun heats up and can cause feeding issues, but this would not be unique only to this rifle. There are chamber inserts to allow shooting 7.62 x 39 ammo, but I've heard they can be problematic.

  15. If you are talking about that Bullpup stock you would have the following issues:

If you use the Drop mag the SKS becomes illegal because w/ detachable mag it is on the banned weapons list - Yes

If you were to try to use the original magwell - you may have a loading problem because some Bullpups for the SK

don't have a way to top load. (I'm not saying you can't - I just cant tell by the photo)

If you are able to use the original magwell, you now have a pistol grip i-on a semi-auto so you can't have another

evil feature like the bayonet lug, threaded barrel, flash hider, ect.  - None of this would matter if it doesn't have a detachable magazine - the detachable magazine is the qualifier.

And if you get around all that - your would then have the 922r compliancy issue...................

    Good Luck!
