  1. I'm certainly not a lawyer, but this (unfortunately) doesn't sound unusual. Call your insurance company and they should take care of it, that's what your paying them for. She may end up having to give a deposition, but your insurance would provide her a lawyer for that. The insurance company will probably settle the case unless the plaintiff is asking for something grossly out of line.

  2. I did a little horse trading with a friend and have a a 1943 US Army colt waiting for me. Damn permit process is killing me. I have gone down there just to fondle it a little, and drool several times. I just cant wait until my permit comes in....... WAAAAAAAA :icon_evil:

    I thought you weren't a pistol guy :icon_e_biggrin:

Well, if you going to start at least it's with a really nice piece.

  3. The prosecutor and defense attorney pick the jury. The defense attorney should have had some gun owners on the jury. And how do you know there weren't any gun owners on the jury?

You are correct but the judge will exclude anyone he thinks will have a bias. Potential jurors fill out questionnaires to weed out people who may have a bias, it would be interesting to see what was on the one for this case.

I don't know if there were any gun owners on the jury, but the way this judge ran this case I would not be surprised if the were excluded.

  4. I got it all cleaned up, boy o boy is this thing purdy. The bore sparkles like the day it was made.... I will post pics later tonight. I put a nice light coat of gunny's paste on the stock and this is one beautiful gun!! Halb- enjoy your 1917!!

Certainly will, we'll have to meet up in K-town when I can and try em out.

  5. a state's rights argument. Tenth amendment. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tenth_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution

It would be interesting to see what ACTUAL enumerated rights the states and various parties like the feds have and would make for an interesting case

That would never fly. The state could then overrule the 1st, 4th and 5th amendments if states rights were paramount to the Bill of Rights.

  6. Personally I wouldnt convict him if I was on the jury. Thats what I find so hard to believe about this case. Wasnt there 1 f**king juror who realized this was all wrong convicting this guy if in fact it was just transporting guns from 1 place to another. I still feel some facts are missing from this case that are not being told in the media.

The judge probably dismissed anyone who owned guns during jury selection. He obviously didn't like gun owners.

  7. Yup, no NFA SBRs,SBSs, Silencers, MGs, or DDs allowed in NJ, no matter if you have the federal tax stamp or not.

Pretty idiotic... getting 10 years for putting a stock on your pistol. At least at the federal level, they only have a few cosmetic laws (SBR, SBS), as opposed to the EBR list in NJ.

I'm at a loss as to what crimes SBR rule is preventing. I suppose it was enacted back in the day when the "gangsters" were hiding tommy guns in violin cases...

Your correct when you say the fed SBR rules make no sense. In the free parts of America you can buy "assault pistols", just like any other pistol, such as Sig 556 pistols, AK pistols and AR pistols but if you attach a stock (folding, fixed or otherwise) you need to register it with the ATF as an SBR. Like a stock is going to make it more deadly

Then again switchblade knives have been illegal to the average person federally for a long time. You can buy and carry a handgun in most of this country but not own a switchblade?

  8. Thanks Eric, that was helpful, I'm glad I got that out of you before you have a brain crash.

All the parts have "E" on them, including the rear sight, except the barrel which has a "W" on it and a flaming bomb and the cocking piece which also has a "W" on it.

Does that mean the barrel is a replacement? If so they must have used an older stock barrel when referbing since it's dated 3/19.

  9. While the 1934 NFA is a federal law that requires you would have to pay the $200 tax stamp to register it as a SBR the state of NJ flat out bans rifles with barrels under 16" as (get this) short barreled shotguns... So at least in America (you know, west of the Delaware River) you could get one if you really, really wanted one in your gun safe... I think the NJ standard is you need to prove to a judge how possession of the SBR would benefit the community or some crap like that...

Actually SBR's are totally banned in NJ, there is no process to purchase one legally outside of military and LE (and even there the law, in typical NJ fashion, is contradictory). The proving to a judge thing is for MG's only.

  10. Picked up a decent Eddystone at the auction with Usnmars and gang yesterday. I can only find serial numbers on the receiver. Does anyone know if they typically have them on any other parts? Wanted to see if it's got matching numbers but can't find any on the bolt or exposed portions of the barrel. Haven't tried to take the stock off to look at the rest of the barrel.

The bolt and some other parts do have E (for eddystone?)stamped into them and the barrel has 3/19 (march 1919?) on it but no numbers. Does also have some nice flaming bomb markings on various parts.

  11. Hey guys, My father pulled out an old Westinghouse 91 that he had and gave it to me. He never shot it before.

Its in good shape, besides the barrel. Looks pretty bad in there when i hold it up and look at the light. I cleaned (brush/swab) with traditional bore cleaning solutions like no tomorrow, still looks bad.

I'm letting the bore soak in some Bullfrog rust remover. So far after a few hours, I flushed it with simple green/water and ran some patches through. Black residue is coming out. I'm not sure if this is rust, or just baked on crude that my normal cleaning fluid is missing. I'm going to do a few Bullfrog/flushes to see if there is improvement.

Otherwise what do you guys think... would it be dangerous to run a few rounds through it in hopes of the bullet / barrel friction removing how many untold years of neglect? Structurally from the outside things look fine.

edit: its a Westinghouse Mosin 91 with "1915" date mark.

I think it is extremely dangerous and you should sell it me immediately! :icon_lol: :icon_lol: :icon_lol:

  12. All you need to do is slip a gun sock over an unloaded firearm and you're good to go. JC_68Westy is correct.

What do you guys do when you go hunting with a club?

I'm glad we're clarifying this. I have gone hunting for over 20 years with a pick up and always used a soft case w/o a lock. I too recently saw on the SP website the "guidelines" stating they must be locked but didn't hear of anyone changing their transportation practices. I didn't want to find out the hard way the was a new law.

  13. We need to get rid of this requirement that an investigation be done for everything after you get your initial FID. This became obsolete when NICS went into effect. If the anti's are hell bent on keeping the permits for handguns they could be supplied by the FFL and filled out at the time of purchase (like in PA) without the preinvestigation requirements.

This should be presented as a cost saving measure. I know my town has an officer in records that spends a lot of time investigating people who were just investigated recently and the $2 per permit is not covering that expense so tax dollars are paying these costs. In these austere times this is a prime example of bureaucratic waste.

  14. Cherry Ridge is going to be your best bet in North Jersey. If you are any good at working with wood it would not be hard to build your own target frame, but it will have to be built to the specifications they provide to you. As Malsua said you can just buy one if that's easier for you.

Ps. watch yourself on 23, West Milford does sit out there often enough. Haven't seen Passaic county much since they laid off a number of guys a year or so ago. My office is on 23, so I watch the happenings everyday.

  15. What it's going to take is Daley or someone like him getting arrested for a Civil Rights violation for this nonsense. THEN you will see the BS come to a screeching halt.

That's an interesting thought! To bad there are too many sympathetic dopes in the justice system to ever allow that to happen.

I still think the gun rights groups should have sued Corzine for fraud when he arm twisted the OGAM thru. Not that they could win the case, but it would have drawn attention to the fact he was pushing a utterly unnecessary bill thru for political gain.

  16. Congrats, deer hunting may get for you just as addictive as this forum. One of my friends got his first deer last year with his dad's old shotgun, this year he's buying new tree stands and looking at getting a new shotgun for his future hunting exploits.
