  1. I'm usually over there all of the time because a friend of mine works at the Auto Parts store, but I didn't know about it until yesterday. Naturally, I had to stop in and check it out. A lot of the old store is still there, but now it has guns again. Like someone said below, it's a little low on stock, though. I'm hoping it'll pick up. There was, however, a really nice SKS behind the counter. I couldn't help myself, so I bought it. I'd really like to see this place stay open and do well. Ranges and shops close in NJ and are seemingly never replaced. The guy's name is Chris and from what I can tell, he's a nice guy and wants to expand, so go support the man and buy some guns.
  2. Hey, it's alright, man. Again, sorry about jumping on you. I totally understand about guarding against trolls, even though I haven't been on enough to run into one. Bastids. Now's good a time as any to update, I suppose. I got the rifle back. Not that I mentioned the reason I sent it back, but SA's fix might be helpful to someone. The bolt runs back and forth smoothly, now, and the magazines go in and out rather easily. Before I sent the m1a back, it took some serious effort to get the magazine seated and then some more effort to rip it back out. If you've got this problem, your receiver might be "out of spec". Again, great warranty, but they're seriously slacking on quality control.
  3. Alright, thanks everyone. Sarcasm's fine with me, but I didn't feel it was very helpful in that case. Plus, I was agitated over something else entirely, so you know, you always hurt the ones you love, instead. Ha. Dan, sorry for laying into you a bit.
  4. Seriously, what's the difference between having a firearms manufacturer mail you an unregistered rifle and picking one up off the street?
  5. Well, I came here for help, but I got a nice dictionary definition and a phonetic pronunciation guide for the word "voluntary". I'll have to put it in my book of big words so I don't forget what it means. Thanks for the help. I guess I'll ask again, just in case someone more helpful and slightly less sarcastic stops by. What's the need for paperwork, for NICS checks, for gun shops, FID cards, if the gun doesn't need to be registered? Is it legal to own a firearm that isn't tied to your name somehow? Registering guns is voluntary, so I can just have people mail me guns willy-nilly and it would be alright? Someone please explain this to me in a way that doesn't involve tossing a dictionary at me. I apologize for sounding somewhat annoyed, but I kind of am. Thanks in advance for those willing to help.
  6. I've got a question. I could wait and find out for myself, but I'm more curious than I am patient. I had a problem with my M1A and sent it back to Springfield. Their explanation was that it was "out of spec" (which I probably could have told them, based on how the thing operated) and therefore, they replaced the barrel and the receiver. Since they replaced the receiver, my M1A now has a new serial number, which needs to be registered. My question is... how would I go about doing this? My guess would be to visit my local gun shop (happens to be the place I originally bought the M1A in question) and have them do their paperwork magic. Is this correct? As a side note, Springfield has a great warranty, but they really need to start test-firing the guns they ship out of their factory.

    Magpul PRS stock

This it? http://militarytimes.com/blogs/gearscout/2010/11/29/huskey-amentum-slider-sling/ Seems like a pretty good sling. I might pick it up to compare the two. I haven't had any problems with my MS2, but then again, I've only had it for two days. The Magpul RSA came in the mail first, and when I saw it, I thought it seemed unnecessarily large. Then the sling came and I saw why the RSA was so big. Giant hook/clip.

Nice! What kind of sling are you using? I picked up the Magpul MS2. It's my first single-point sling. I love the concept. As for a "light carbine"... mine weighs a ton (for an AR). I have the Ruger SR 556 and from what everyone tells me, it's heavy, though I can't say I can really tell. My only experience with a rifle is the SA M1a Socom II. Compared to my M1a, the Ruger isn't heavy.

Shane, I know what you're saying about the PRS and a single-point sling set up and I totally agree. I was trying to find a good non-collapsing stock, though, and I was somewhat willing to mismatch my rifle/stock setup. I hadn't considered any alternatives until... the MOE. Dan, good call on the MOE. It's cheap enough so that I won't cry when it gets pinned. I thought about pinning my CTR, but I really just couldn't bring myself to do it. The PRS seemed like a good (albeit expensive and slightly mismatched) alternative. I'm not sure why I passed over the MOE.

Perhaps, but in New Jersey, a fixed stock is a fixed stock. Why suffer with one you don't like as much? And both rifles in question are still ARs.

I meant ask everyone here. I'd never voluntarily call the authorities (for any reason, really), but especially to let them know what I was putting on my gun. I'd prefer they didn't even know I had a gun. I was originally just poking around looking for anything about the PRS without really being concerned about its potential legality until I found this thread. Since I joined up a couple days before my search for info on the PRS, I figured I might as well ask because I hadn't considered it an issue until I read the first question in the thread. Thanks for all of the responses, though. I'll pick one up, but after further (not much) inspection, I doesn't look very compatible with the Magpul ASAP. I just installed the ASAP and I like it, so I suppose I'll have to look for another stock, ha... oh...

Better to ask than not ask. But my mistake was in trying to inject logic into NJ gun laws. If I decide to spend the money and you guys read about me in the paper, well, then, we'll all know one more thing we can't put on our ARs.

Has anyone found out whether or not this stock is legal? I don't want to find out the hard way and I'd really like to replace the pinned "telescoping" stock on my Ruger SR-556. I have a Magpul CTR on my 12 gauge, which I'd gladly swap with the Ruger, but I couldn't bear to have a 'smith pin the CTR.
