  1. I compete with a 9mm 1911 Trojan in IDPA and would have no issues using it for steel. In fact I bought it after watching Mike DiGennaro clean up with it at a steel match. Granted Mike can out-shoot most people blindfolded.

From a dependability perspective I have had no problems, but a friend and fellow competitor who has the same gun has had mag seating issues. Our guns are set up the same (including mags) but he over-inserts his mags during reloads...we cant seem to figure out the issue. My gun likes slightly hotter rounds, and will not lock the slide with light loads. A lighter recoil spring should fix this. Overall it's a great gun, and I highly recommend it, and will continue to shoot with it. However I am still faster with my G34, which was half the price.

As far as an advantage for larger calibers in IDPA, there is one, bigger holes. USPSA is a different story as others have said above. For steel you will likely prefer 9mm.

  2. Lots of IDPA/IPSC shooters, including myself use the G34. In my opinion, that is what the gun was made for (stock service pistol in practical shooting). It's fine for 25 yds, but it is not a bullseye gun.

Most replace the factory sights. I am using the Warren Tactical/Dawson combo. I'm not a fan of the factory glock trigger, but the 34 comes with a 3.5# connector, so it's not too bad.

If you want to shoot one, let me know...I'm a SCFGPA member as well.

  3. Here are a few tips:

Hornady has a great setup video included with the press, but it is also on the web site as well as youtube. Watch it a couple of times, and if you have a laptop, watch it while putting the press together.

The primer pickup tube sucks. Dillon makes a great one, but you have to modify it to wotk with the LnL.

Get a case gauge, $15 well spent.

If the press doesn't index right, the pawls need to be adjusted (fairly common). Both of mine were out, but only 1/4 - 1/2 turn.

Get a lamp and mount it so light shines on the left side of the press. This will let you see into the case before you seat a bullet.

If you want to take a look at one, let me know. I'm here this week, but will be traveling for the next two.
