  1. Over the past 3 months I have purchased "assault weapons" in both Pa and NC. went through each states process for purchase. North Carolina guys laughed at me when I showed them the Certificated of eligibiltiy, Then asked if they needed my FID and they said whats that? I was the entertainment for the day in that shop.

After the purchaseing process I drove home with my "assault weapons"!

  2. Went to pick up my "Assault Weapon" and was told That the State Police aint pickin up the phone. Will have to be faxed in and they will call me when it goes through.

They could only say it could take up to 24 to 48 hrs or more. It's out of thier hands.

Got the call today about 24 hrs from when I filled out the paperwork for the nics. Will pick up my piece tommorrow, thank you very much.

Side note, was told by a LEO I know that they got 60-70 year old people coming in for FID's and P2P permits since Obama got reelected.

multiple stage turret presses are also something to look into they give you quick caliber change overs and I can do 150 to 200 rounds an hour without trying. They also give you the option of single stage loading as well which I find useful when prepping my 223/556 cartridges.

I use a Lee 4 stage turret press FWIW

  4. I don't think there's a one size fits all answer. I think an important factor is what cartridges you are loading and especially the components.

223 - my dies require very little / no maintenance. Cases are tumbled clean, I use One Shot lube and carbide dies. So no die contamination.

9mm - Pretty much the same as 223. Clean cases and carbides 15k/ yr rounds and never cleaned a die. BTW always loaded jackets.

45acp - The thing I monitor is lead building up in the seating die and moving contamination over to the crimp die.

Thanks for the tip on the lead buildup I never gave that any thought.

I do decap with the Lee decapping die and then clean and I do use carbide dies so I guess im in good company.

  5. Yes using shell holders in a inertia puller is a recipe for disaster.

I probably struck this particular cartridge 5 or 6 times the bullet wouldnt come out.

After thinking through it I think the only reason the powder didnt ignite/discharge was because it must have come out at the exact time the primer went off. Heating the powder charge closest to the primer just enough to clump it together if thats possible.

Im just glad my wife and grandson were not at home at the time. Using the collet with the pullers may be the safest procedure in the world. However it dont matter to me Im getting a puller die for the press.

    Be safe everybody

  6. When yer interested in reloading, give me a buzz Im in Ogdensburg, Ive got Lee presses and be glad to show you how they work.

No matter what press ya buy weather it cost ya a hundred bucks ta get started or a thousand. Both machines are making the same ammo, cartridge primer powder bullet nuthin more nuthin less.

So, Lee RCBS Hornady Dillion Redding Forster Lyman, In the end they all make the same thing loaded ammo.

  7. I saw a tube of someone using one of these pullers (I have a Lyman) replacing the "keepers" with shell holders. I found this worked quite well.

Last night while pulling 223 rounds I had a primer activate/explode with a loaded live round, Needless to say this was a little startling. The powder never fully ignited, The bullet was dislodged from the cartridge.

When I inspected the powder I found that some heating had occured I believe, because I had some powder that was clumped together and not free flowing. I would guess 25% of the powder was like this.

Apparently in the course of me striking the puller the cartridge somehow moved in the shell holder enough to put the primer cap in position to be struck. I really dont have any other explanation for this. The Primers Iam using are Federal small rifle primers #205.

This was the first bullet of the 20 or so I had to pull, The rest sure were fun to do!!!!

Has anyone else had something like this occur?

I am looking to replace my puller with either a Hornady or RCBS press bullet pulling die after this episode

  8. Be very careful going below minimum loads. too much free space inside the brass can create a dangerous pressure spike too. going too low on an AR also can cause a case not to seal against the chamber. If the brass comes out all sooted up that means its not sealing well, This happens with NATO brass more than 223 brass.

thanx for the advice and info. Ive been handloading handguns, this is my first venture into rifle territory.

  9. thanx for the replys,

That link was a very interesting read some pro's mostly con's

Im gonna give em a go and be cautious and suspect.

I too am using 55 grain bullets will be using H335. I will be using minus 10% from max load.

Do you know if I can reduce One or Two % more???

Wife enjoys shooting her AR with light recoil (arthritis in the shoulders) any help on how far below 10% would be appreciated.

  10. I just started handloading 223/556 ammo.

Does anyone know if the head stamp "F C" is Military brass?

I do have LC brass which I know stands for Lake City which is Military.

If anyone can give me some help on this it would be appreciated.

Swaging is a whole nother issue I wont even get into right now

  11. After reading some responses here, maybe some of you didnt hear what SCJ Scalia said. He may be the most Conservative judge on the Court. He did state in his this interview their were limitations back in the day (so to speak) on 2A such as some kind of axe head which carried a sentence of a misdemeanor. He also stated that 2A says right to "bear" arms which he said means "carry" and included Missle Launchers. Ya cant carry a Tank or a Jet or a Ship, but you can carry nuclear, chemical and bilogical weapons.

Are Nuclear, chemical, biological, weapons considered firearms????

So if you have SCALIA talking about some sort of controls of some kind, Then the NRA's gonna need more money and members.

  12. I was out shooting a couple of my pistols over the weekend. I set up a series of targets and was practicing moving and shooting.

My Sig has an "energetic" ejection and throws brass upto 25 feet away.

Well after I finished I was only able to find about 1/2 brass that I shot in the weed and gravel.

Any suggestions to improve the recovery rate?

HIre the range officer and the guy 2 or three stalls down from my stall this weekend. they were both pickin up my brass like it was thiers. If they had no problem findin mine and pickin it up, Im sure they will have no problem collecting yours :D

  13. Very interesting interview. Back in the day He stated that thier were limitations about The nature of arms that could be borne, such as some axe head of some kind that was a misdemeanor if carried. the 2nd amendment does not apply to arms that connot be carried such as cannons.Missle launchers that could take down an airplane can be carried... that will have to be decided.

With SCJ Scalia discussing this. I wouldnt doubt a 5-4 decision of some kind will be coming down the pike on gun control legislation thats for sure.

6:59 SCJ Scalia discusses the 2nd amendment.

  14. If you wanna wait, check out PA gun shows. Usually EagleArms has like 3 crates of Mosins, which is usually anywhere from 20-50 rifles, and they are $79.95. It's nice since you can choose from a TON of them and see which ones you like.

Went to Eaglearms show at National guard armory last week in Philly. cheapest Mosin I saw there was for $129.00 they had many to choose from. Also went to the Allentown show the week before and saw simular prices.

  15. Got $1.40 / lb last week (22 cal), I just checked and this week its up to $1.65

Prices vary scrap yard to scrap yard, However this one you speak of is rakin ya over the coals. The only thing Ive heard em knock ya on (reduce price) is if you have a lot with nickel coated brass.

As mentioned above ya can get more selling to reloaders than ya can for scrappin!

  16. Show is being presented by Eagle Productions, this weekend the 29th and 30th.

Anybody ever been to this show?

My wife and I are planning to attend and havent got a clue what to expect. Is it High end stuff? run of the mill garage sale stuff? Flea market stuff?

    New stuff, antique stuff?

A little bit of everything listed above? Ive been to train shows is this simular?

Thanks in advance fer any info offered :)
