  1. I spent about an hour today fondling some of these sub compact 9's. I went in with 9 models on my list and they had 7 in stock. At this point I have it narrowed down to 2. The Walther PPS and the Kahr PM9. I need to shoot them both to really make up my mind. The PPS felt perfect in my hand and the only negative I could find was the mag release. Nothing wrong with it, just different. The Kahr actually felt a little small but, the 7 round mag would fix that. Both had really nice triggers. Just a matter of how I shoot them.

On a side note. I have never been much of a fan of NJ Firearms Guild, was never made to feel comfortable there. Well, looks like they have a couple new guys working there now. One of them, Rob, was very helpful and seemed to enjoy playin with the guns as much as I did. I was pleasantly surprised, especially since I told him from the start, I was there to look at these guns and see which ones fit my hand the best. I made it clear that I was just narrowing it down and then I would have to shoot the ones that I liked. In other words, there would be no sale today. He understood and was very helpful. Enough so that I may even give them a shot at the sale once I reach my final deciscion.

just stumbled on this thread, and may be a little late here but im actually in the EXACT same boat as you (plus a FL CCW :) ) and actually my decision has come down to the exact same 2 guns as you also.

    i actually created this: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AkG7ZGJOjNtidDJacmJfUnBLSXhxalg4YnJSWm9wOXc&authkey=COCNhaQK&hl=en_US#gid=0

sheet a few months ago to help me. I am a fairly slim person 5'9 165lbs and basically the only time ill be carrying is out of state on vacation and 9 times out of 10 that will be in the summer so i really wanted to go with the smallest/easiest to conceal as possible. i know you can conceal a lot, esp w/ the right clothes and holster but for the rare times i get to carry i am def not going to be buying new clothes specifically for those occasions.

the range that you went too had both in stock and you were also able to rent them? my whole decision at this point will come down to how they feel when holding, trigger pull/reset, and how i fire them.

sorry if i made a lot of grammar mistakes, my wife is yelling at me to start a movie lol

  2. thanks for the welcomes!! Everyone seems to be very friendly and informative, looks like i stumbled on a great forum!

    Monmouth County R&P Club

No indoor range. Actually, no indoors at all...

But, it's a fun range and easy going. We had around 15 people at the trap competition yesterday, and it was a great time as always.

thank you, i will def look into it, that it right up the road here

Welcome. I was in Neptune today at Kelly's, my favorite Irish pub.

    kelly's is awesome!

Howdy, if you are putting out the money for an indoor and outdoor range you may want to look into Central Jersey in Jackson.

this seems like a great place/club to join. i will def look into this as well tho unfortunately the price seems a little too steep right now, but i do think its well worth it if affordable..

  3. Initial experience:

    1) Initial App for FID and 1 PP

    2) Lakewood PD

    3) Few people in the records department

    4) About 2 1/2 months

    5) Not that i can remember

    6) This was almost 5 yrs ago. I followed up with them about a month after submitting and they actually LOST my application. The detective i spoke with was VERY helpful and really went out of his way to "find" the app. I then pretty much followed up every-other week and I believe this really expedited the issuance of the FID/permit.

    Most recent:

    1) Address change on FID/ 1 PP

    2) Neptune PD

    3) Det. Gamble

    4) 3 1/2 months

    5) Employment verification and 2 written referrals

    6) Neptune says it will take a minimum of 3 months so i didnt follow up until exactly 90 days. They said they never received the emplyment verification (i work in a small office and i am the manager, THEY never actually sent the document at all) so i asked them to "re-send" it, they did, my boss filled it out and mailed it back. FID/Permit was issued about 2 weeks later. Also Det. Gamble had no problem fingerprinting me for the Florida CCW FBI background check.

  4. Hello everyone and thanks for taking the time to read my intro. My name is Wayne and I am currently in Neptune and will be until we decide to pull the trigger (no pun) on a house purchase sometime next summer (hopefully). This is the 1st and only strictly firearms forum i am a member of and i am rather excited about it, esp since its full of fellow gun loving new jersians!

I currently own 1 firearm (an M&P .40 full size) but recently updated the address on my FID and got another purchase permit, so i will be picking up another pistol in the next 90 days or so as well as some long gun toys. (.22 rifle, shotgun, AR/AK variant etc...)

I rented a few different polymer guns from shore shot before deciding on purchasing the M&P, and have been very happy with it!

I am currently a member of Range 14 in Ft dix but am thinking about joining an indoor range as well. I also just learned about the range in farmingdale today after reading through a few threads; i didnt even know it existed. Maybe next year when my ft dix membership expires ill join there since its about an hour closer to me. I also never knew about the 200 yard range at ft dix until someone mentioned it on here.

As far as my next pistol purchase, i am looking at either the Walther PPS or Khar MK/PM/CM 9 as i am in the process of obtaining a FL CCW and would like a slim single stack sub compact to carry when out of state. The issue i am having is that i would like to rent both but dont know of a place that has them for rent. I am a member of reddit (anyone else here?) and someone on there that lives in PA is willing to let me try their PPS which is great, but i would love to be able to handle the Khar as well. If anyone knows of a range in NJ that rents the Khar (and PPS possibly) please let me know, or if any members here own a subcompact Khar and are willing to let me throw some rounds down range with it I would gladly play you a rental fee!

Anyway, happy end of summer shooting fellas (and ladies), you will def see me around!!
