  1. Great. I'll have to wait until I get the .22, but I'll plan to check out Tenafly. I assume I can shoot 9mm at paper, correct?
  2. For those of you living near NYC, are you a member of any club? I've been paging through the list sticky, but I'd like to hear from people who actually live up here--where they go and why. For public ranges there's Bayonne and Bullet hole, but they cost every time you go. I know that will limit the amount of time I spend on the range. I'd prefer to pay one yearly fee and then feel obligated to spend a lot of time there to get my money's worth. However, I'd prefer not to spend an hour in the car to get there. Looking for a place I can shoot at multiple distances (not fixed distance if possible). Indoors, open more often than not (some ranges seem to have very limited hours). Allow standard pistol calibers and, best case, rifle or shotgun in case I go down that road. Don't want to have to buy ammo or targets from the range if I can avoid it. Thoughts?
  3. Thanks! Shongum is a bit far, although I imagine there's a lot of driving involved with these kinds of competitions. Will check out Tenafly for steel. I won't have my .22 for a month or so. Are there friendly competitions locally? Like at Bullet Hole or Bayonne?
  4. After securing my FID and some P2P I'm looking to get involved in some shooting sports here up north. I've shot target recently in a more casual capacity, but only paper, and as I get more proficient I'd like to add a level of competition. Close by there's the Bullet Hole and the Bayonne range. Then I've found a few membership clubs further out (which interest me because I want to shoot during the day on weekdays). These are only for paper target shooting, correct? How does one get involved with steel up here? Any tips for someone totally new to the sport trying to find a way in?
  5. Don't order a 15 rd CZ-75b from a dealer here, order a 10 rd. I just ordered a 15 and when it arrived it turned out to be 16 rds. CZ DOES NOT make a 15 round mag--they are aftermarket. Arms and Ammo might be able to pin one for you--perhaps other places in the state. Just beware of the 15 round promise, because CZ doesn't ship any 75s with 15 round clips. Some dealers THINK they have 15 round clips but they're really 16.
  6. How do you find out if the nics people are open?
  7. Ooo Keurig--can't wait. Thanks again for working with me. I can be a PITA about price, I realize. But I'm loyal to shops I like. Will definitely pick up some ammo (at least).
  8. I live in Jersey City--and thanks everyone for the suggestions and ideas. I did the price request about 2 weeks ago. Again, I'm totally with you guys about buying local. Talking to a vendor as we speak and will give positive reviews if/when it goes well. Just put the money down and should be able to report back soon! I will say generally speaking, it seems NJ firearms are more expensive than they should be. The MSRP of these guns are posted online. We all know those prices are inflated. So the fact that most of the price quotes I received came back OVER msrp seems suspect. Paul came through, but as I said, 2 hours each way is really far for a $500 purchase. I'm sure he's wonderful, its just hard to justify a 4 hour trip for something I can order. Part of the issue is the mag thing--they are 16 standard. Not 15+1, 16 round mags. You can order 10 and 15 rounders, however. Apparently then you get charged well over MSRP. Is it really $50 more for mags that hold less? Like I said, friendly vendor working with me (mastadon) and I will post again when all comes through!
  9. Thanks guys. I'll try to work it out locally!
  10. Caso's, Meltzer's and Sons, NJ Firearms Guild. Every place I visited up here. I even showed them a photocopy of my CCW from PA before I moved. No dice. I have a feeling it's because they don't want to waste time on a customer who may not be able to buy in the future.
  11. Totally willing to spend a little extra. I love supporting local business. I'd be willing to go %10 over online competitors. But it seems the 85b is backordered around here, and I have plans for another transfer in the near future. I don't want to put this purchase off for another 2 weeks, pushing the next transfer to 6 weeks from today. Know what I mean?
  12. Not sure what his name is, but I'm sure he's the same guy. Yep, he's there.
  13. Yeah, I was dreaming. CTD didn't let me buy the gun (posted in another forum). Keep forgetting about the holiday! Clearly I'm blocking it out for a reason (ah, family)
  14. I tried the firearms request. Great feature, and Arms and Ammo came through. However, they are more than 2 hours from me. No one locally seems to be able to get one for less than $600, which sees a bit steep.
  15. Just tried to by my first NJ firearm. Waited for the FID, got the P2P, found an FFL, ordered from Cheaper than Dirt. Or at least I tried to. They claim that the CZ-85b is illegal in NJ and cannot be sent. It is the 10 round version--so no mag problems. There are 75bs at half the gun shops around here, so clearly the 85b isn't illegal. Any thoughts? I have a feeling it's going to be weeks before I have this in hand. Frustrating.
  16. Only $11 shipping for firearms. Doesn't seem too terrible. Think I'll order today and hope to be on the range by the weekend...
  17. How do you guys like this company? I tried the "request a quote" function here but cannot find the firearm I'm looking for locally. Cheaperthandirt has it for a great price. Have your experiences been positive with them? Thanks
  18. Got my FID today. Says it was issued Friday, which was just over 3 weeks from the day I applied. Not bad considering they process over 100 a month (so they say). Only problem is they gave me 1 pistol permit despite my applying (and paying) for 3. They apologized and said the other 2 would be there in a day or so. Kind of nice to be able to physically handle products at the gun shop. Still not sure why it's illegal to do so without the FID.
  19. Glad to hear--I'm waiting on my JC FID and P2P. Did they call you, or did you call them to find out?

    US Made metal 9mm?

I'm going to try some Poly framed guns. Fired a glock the other day. The felt recoil seemed a little greater than steel. Plus, this isn't for CC. I have no interest in reducing weight.

    US Made metal 9mm?

Thanks everyone. My understanding was that Sigs are assembled here, but not all the parts are made here--although I'm certainly no authority. I'll continue to research. That said, my price point would put me at the 2022, which is poly. Interesting that many of the companies named are foreign, but assembled here. The Kahrs have their fans, but I think are a bit small for me. And of course the Kimbers have a good rep, but I can't afford the full size. tbtrout (fellow fly fisherman?). I understand, and will more than likely end up with the CZ. I don't want to settle for a firearm that I don't shoot well. However, I want to be sure to include US products in my search--and privilege them when possible.

    US Made metal 9mm?

Still shopping around for my first 9mm. I'm trying everything I can get my hands on (a couple of guys here have offered to let me shoot their firearms, and I've rented a few as well). So far the CZ-75b has fit my hand best, but I have yet to shoot one. However, generally speaking, I like to spend hobby money on US made products--at least whenever possible. Not a hard and fast rule, more a guideline. Anyway, are there any really decent full size, all metal frame US made 9mm's for $600 or less that I'm missing? Really appreciate any advice.
  23. Kind of sorry I asked... What vladtepes is arguing seems totally logical to me. Nothing can prevent you from handling a firearm in your home--any firearm, whether bought by your wife, dropped by a bad guy during a B&E, or materialized out of thin air. This would prevent homeowners from unwillingly becoming criminals due to events out of their control. Transfers seem to be about a class of ownership and legal possession outside of the home, and even if a wife handing her husband a gun in the living room is a transfer, it would be exempted by the "nothing shall." From what I had read it almost sounded like there was a specific law regarding spousal transfer in the home. Not that there was some illogical way of reading transfer laws to imply that it was illegal. This is why I asked.
  24. Harry-- You're definitely not the only person who has suggested a spouse to spouse transfer in the home is illegal, and I certainly didn't post this to call you out on anything. I was really responding to the nj.com article and my own confusion. That being said, to me at least, it seems pretty clear that while there are strict laws about when and where temporary transfers can occur, no law shall be construed as forbidding anyone from handling any gun on their own property, including guns belonging to other residents of the same property.
  25. I keep searching but can't seem to get the terms right. I'm sure this has been covered, but I'm inept at searching the forum. I read some article on the nj.com site about "bizarre" NJ gun laws, which includes that a wife can't handle her husband's firearm in their own home. I've seen it repeated here. But doesn't NJ law state that "Nothing in subsections b., c. and d. of N.J.S.2C:39-5 shall be construed to prevent a person keeping or carrying about his place of business, residence, premises or other land owned or possessed by him, any firearm..." Doesn't any firearm mean any firearm? As in, no matter who it belongs to, anyone can handle any firearm in their residence? Be it their spouse's or their own? Sorry if this has been beaten to death.
