  1. We all like to personalize our guns with the goal usually being aesthetics or function or both. I recently acquired a S&W 627-4 PC that is chambered in .38 Super. I intend to use this under the new USPSA revolver rules that allow 8-shot revolvers (to be scored Minor). I posted some pictures on the forum of the gun in the "as received" condition, I'll repeat that here...

    Here are the after pics...

    The differences are:

Hogue Big Butt rubber/wood, finger-groove grips

California Competition Works extended cylinder release

Comp changed out for muzzle cap

Dawson .100" front fiber optic sight

    LPA rear target sight

I like the rear sight so much that I am changing to it on two of my other revolvers that I use in IDPA.

Don't forget Shongum on 2/1 and the revolver extravaganza. See you there.

    Adios,

    Pizza Bob

Did you take the comp out so you wouldn't be put in an 'Open' division?

    Looks great.  Probably shoots awesome.

  2. Yes. Crap

    It's a .380. Pictured next to a Glock 26.

I still find it pretty exciting that Glock has a new single stack frame. I am sure it will be available in 9mm/40 shortly.

Where did you get the pics?  Wow that is much smaller than the 26.  I'd definitely want that in a 9 if they make one.  Is it

too tall of an order to ask for it in OD Green?  :)

  3. The only part I don't like about the look is the front of the gun.  Would look better if they just

kept the lines straight, but I think they did it to smooth it out for concealed carry.

Other than that it really does seem like something very unique coming to the market.  I like

the fact that the trigger is a true, straight back pull, single action with an internal hammer.

And the fixed barrel is interesting.  For the price I'd be willing to try it.

  4. I really wish I didn't miss this the first time but heard it was a blast.  For those interested here is the updated Tenafly schedule.

    Greetings Ladies and Gentlemen,

This Sunday will be the fifth Sunday of the month of December and therefore TRPC will be closed for action shooting.  Everyone enjoy your holiday and Happy New Year.

This past Sunday, 12/22/13, we ran post cutting and man on man shoot off instead of knock down steel match .  We had over 20 participants that each shot over 250 rounds and finished shooting by 8:30. This was a big hit and everyone enjoyed shooting without all the waiting around.  We’ve decided that Steel & Wood will be run the fourth Sunday every month.  Although most ran out of ammo and went home, the range remained open with several enthusiasts competing and practicing until 10 PM.

    The new schedule for 2014
1st Sunday: USPSA/IDPA, (Practice Only, Unsanctioned)
    2nd Sunday: Steel Challenge,
3rd Sunday: Pro Am Knock Down Steel,
    4th Sunday:  Steel & Wood Shoot-Out,

It's always been a good crowd there when I go.  They are very good with new shooters/competitors as well.
Hope to see you guys there!

  5. Depending on what you want to work on, there's the V drill, and a slew of other things that Chris Fry covers in the MDTS course. Not a salesperson for him but I learned a lot in the course and it gave me a skills set to work on versus just blowing ammo. Run a youtube search for carbine drills and you will find explanatory videos on some good skills that you can work on. I'm not familiar with Range 14 so I'm not sure of their restrictions.

They will let you rapid fire up to three round bursts.  Though I've witnessed some people break this rule without much fuss and others get put on blast (literally) on the loud speakers.

I will look into those suggestions though, thanks.

  6. Depending what other guns you have a .22LR conversion kit might fit the bill.  I have one for my Kimber 1911 (Kimber kit) and it is quite accurate and I have never had a miss-feed or jam with it.  Also has adjustable sights.  They list for about $300, but you might be able to find a used on for less.  Also in the People's Republic of NJ you don't need a P2P to get one.

I have the same kit.  Great conversion.  What ammo do you use?

  7. Not sure why people are claiming airsoft needs an FID.  Have some people not gone to Dicks sporting goods?

You can buy them right off the shelves and bring them to the counter.

    Yes FID IS REQUIRED.
I was ordering one from Bud's Guns and the ordering system didn't bring up the FFL to ship to screen so I called them. Guy goes it's an airgun not a firearm. I said there's no distinction and I needed it shipped to an FFL. Took him about ten minutes to get confirmation and he still can't believe it.

Did the FFL run NICS and charge you transfer for this?

  8. I'll always shoot steel unless I get a killer deal on brass or reload it myself.

Brass is about 40-60% more per 1000 than brass.  Right now you can get

    1000 Tula/Wolf for around $250-$275 shipped.  Brass would be $425 to $525

depending on the brand.  So each 1000 rounds you are spending around $150

to $250 or so more.  I've seen decent barrels for around $100-$150.  So basically

the money you save in that first 1000 rounds can buy you a new barrel.

On another note how does the steel wear down the barrel faster?  I did not read

the article in entirety.  Can someone explain?

Most shooters won't outshoot a barrel, even when using steel cased ammo.

I would have to say the people who complain the most about how steel is evil are

the people who shoot the least (generally).

  9. Zoid,

A friend of mine had this model a while back.  The scope was just O-K (a little hard to fine-focus), and the tripod was a POS and broke the second time he used the outfit.  Do you have a REAL tripod that you use with your cameras?

A visit to Old Bridge to see the differences between binoculars and a spotting scope can be arranged....just let me know and I can guest you in.

    Dave

Thanks man.  Yes I have a regular tripod for my camera.

I gotta start making a list of people who offer to take me

in to ranges as a guest.  I will be taking you guys up on

the offers.  Would be a great opportunity to learn.

  10. What is your guys opinion on this?  I know it's cheap but maybe just to get me started.

Bear in mind I shoot my AR maybe once a month at best and maybe 100 rounds at most

    each time.

While they are not high end, rent one at Ft Dix for $2 and you can see what they are all about.

This is a good call as well.  Might make more sense until I start shooting a lot more.

  11. I don't know... doesn't really do it for me.  Looks clumsy.  Lot's of mall ninjary with little function.

But I haven't used it so of course I would not really know.  And this is coming from a mall ninja

of the highest caliber.  Just doesn't appeal to me at all.

Funny thing is with some of the new exciting rifles coming out a well set up AR15 is still my preferred

long gun.  Haven't really been too inclined on anything else.

  12. I noticed my Rem Choke on my 870 was sticking out about 1/16".  I had to give it a couple turns to tighten it back in.

Was probably shooting like that for the last few boxes.  How much would this affect the pattern of the shot?

I missed a lot more the other day and am looking for a convenient excuse to blame my equipment.  Thanks.
