  1. My aunt lived out in Tuscon AZ..a Mountain lion killer her Boxer. He was a rogue cat , I remember them being very concerned that he was not afraid of the dog. I was there on a two week visit and was not allowed to play in the yard .

We use to catch snakes in the swamps behind Kearny all the time . Use to come home covered in mud with buckets of crabs , snapping turtles , garters and milk snakes. One show and tell , sometime around 1979 , I brought in a Garter snake I had caught that had babies. The container tipped over in my mom's VW Bug and a whole clutch of snake babies got loose in the car. My mother was wigged out for months because they kept slithering by while she was driving and she was afraid of snakes. As much as she was afraid of them she was worried that the "babies" would have no food or water so we left mealworms and water in the car each night .

Then last week my 5 year old's teacher was saying how pet goldfish can make kids sick. Different world.

Oh, my wife absolutely hates snakes. She would sell the car.

One time we came back from the grocery store. We have an extra refrigerator in the basement. About 99% of the time, I am the one who carries stuff down to the basement. For some reason, this time she did it. I heard her say, 'Whoever put the fake snake down here, it's not funny. You know how I feel about snakes." I thought, uh oh. So I went downstairs, and I saw curled up next to the refrigerator a real snake. She was so freaked out. She told me to get rid of it. I said OK, but I have to go to this meeting at church right now, but I'll get it when I come back. She gave me the look. OK, I'll get it now. So I did. It was a very mellow, harmless snake about 3' long. I just put it way back in the woods behind our house.

  2. Congratulations on your perseverance and your accomplishment. Thanks for your service.

My son is in the Air Force and one of his choices was helicopter maintenance, but they did not give him that. (They pretty much haven't given him any of his choices for anything, but that is the military and that is another story.) Anyway, he will soon be doing C-130 maintenance at Yokota AFB in Japan.

  3. Also, as a practical matter, the FID is a card that you can easily carry in your wallet. The PPP is a 3-part (?) carbon form that you cannot easily carry around, and which gets more damaged the more you handle it. To require a PPP just to feel a few handguns seems silly.

  4. It was an Audi A6-S twin turbo, and it was chipped. New from the dealer, not some old beater. Those VWs are really fun cars for lazy asses like me, it's like flying a plane. I had a lot of fun in that car.

Almost like the movie "Ronin" but that was supposedly an S8 with nitrous. Great car chases in that movie.

  5. License and registration please.....

    Definitely not a "vicious" defender...

Nice Boxer. My wife will not allow ours on the furniture, except for the one chair that is for the dog. Occasionally, we will come home from being out somewhere, and when we walk in the door she will quickly jump off the sofa. My wife gives her the evil eye.

  6. I live in Roxbury Twp in Morris County. Several years ago (maybe 2006) there were reports of a mountain lion, and it was supposedly observed by a LEO. However, they did not publicize it much, although you can find references to it if you Google it. We frequently have bears in our neighborhood, as well as foxes. Our dog went up against a bear on our front yard last year before eventually retreating inside. My wife saw it, and said it was the largest bear she had ever seen since we have lived here. Our dog (Boxer) has little fear but I'm not sure how she would do against a mountain lion.

  7. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I can't say I'm all that impressed with Tapatalk. It takes forever to load and never seems to be not doing anything. I've yet been able to view the forums with this application.

Well, it works really well on my iPhone 4s. ;)

  8. My 5 year old (now 6) can easily use the iPod touch, which works just like an iPhone, without the phone. In other words, they are so simple that someone who cannot read can use one.

But they are also very powerful and can do just about anything you could reasonably expect. There has never been a time when I wanted to talk on the phone and use the internet at the same time.

  9. My wife and I are on our 3rd iphone's and we are extremely satisfied with them. Plus having a walk in customer service at the local apple store is always great if there are any questions (or issues) ever! Definitely recommend the iPhone 4s.

My wife and I both got the iPhone 4s. We had Blackberries before that. I was sort of biased against Apple for some reason, but I have to say that the iPhone is really great. The strength of the iPhone is in all the apps that are available.

Also, I am a Verizon customer, but I went to the Apple store to get my phone. I was in and out of that store in less than 30 minutes with an activated phone and my contacts transferred to my new phone. I would have still been waiting at the Verizon store.

  10. I'll admit to not seeking out the official stats, however I'd bet some coin that most towns, cities and neighborhoods in NJ have seen an increase in crime over the last 10-years. Some of it may be normally good people that, years ago, would have never been a criminal. Bad times makes good people do uncharacteristically bad things. That's no meant to be an excuse, just a matter of fact. It's sad really.

I think you're probably right. In this case, because he did it around 10:00 AM at busy shopping centers, I have to think that he was a drug addict. It is a high risk/low reward robbery scenario.

  11. not defending the guy, but...is it possible for a 12 year old to look like a 20 year old? either way, the guy must have known the kid's age.

I've been to clubs where someone says they're 21 and look it, only to find out they're 17 and using their older sister's ID.

He was helping the family on another matter. He was in a position of authority with respect to this family. Therefore, regardless of her age, it is inappropriate for him to be hitting on the daughter of a family he is helping. Even if she were an 18 year old high school senior, it would still be wrong. You don't want people hesitating to call the cops because they may try to hit on your daughters or sons. It is an abuse of the authority that comes with the badge. On top of that, for him to send pictures of himself in uniform is a further abuse of the power of the police, and it is an insult to other LEOs.

  12. If you recently upgraded your Firefox Browser to version 9, you may or may not have noticed that your spell check stopped working.

For whatever reason, only some forum software systems aren't automatically defaulting to your regional selection.

For example this word: --> peelslchek <-- should have a red squiggly line under it if you hit reply to my message.

First, verify that spelling is enabled. Type a misspelled word then right click the word. In the menu that comes up, make sure "Check Spelling" is checked.

If your misspelled word does not have squiggly lines and you are using Firefox 9.x then you need to RIGHT CLICK on the word, hover over LANGUAGES that appears at the bottom of the list. This opens a sub menu and if there is no bullet beside "English / United States" click it. The squiggly line should appear.

    Cheers.

SHute I was wondering what happened. Thanks.

  13. There have been several armed robberies in our area recently -- Dover, Wharton, and yesterday in Roxbury. The victim from yesterday's robbery was able to describe the guy and his vehicle, and Denville police got him on Rt. 10.

I guess it is a sign of the times, and perhaps a symptom of drug usage, that a guy would rob people at gunpoint at busy shopping centers at 10 AM. And, yes, like most people here, I think that CCW would help deter these types of crimes.
