  1. Thought I'd share, since an increasing amount of people carry smart phones and everybody's always looking for inexpensive but useful gifts around the holidays. I have one and love it, I put 10 cards plus cash in it with no problem, and after a few mins it shrunk back down to be able to solidly hold just 1 card without losing it.

I sure as hell don't miss my wallet either :-)

    Recent press: http://markets.cbsne..._Breaking_Ultra

    Actual website: http://www.thecardninja.com/

EDIT: forgot to mention its 100% designed and manufactured in the USA

  2. I got the EFX-A1 stock on mine. Cheek weld looks similar to the STR pictured above, but it's a fixed stock. If you order it from Stag they send you a whole kit with a buffer tube and spring so it all jives. Has a storage compartment in it but its barely enough for a little lube and an otis cleaning kit.IMG_20120711_210631.jpg

  3. So I've gotta ship my Mini-14 back to Ruger for service and they said that I am able to send it without using an FFL directly to them using the UPS label they gave me. I plan to disassemble it, mostly because I don't have a long box to fit the whole thing in.

However I'm not about to lose my gun because one CS rep was wrong...so is this legit in NJ?

Further when they send it back can they send it directly to me or does it need to go to an FFL for transfer etc?

I'm sure this question has been asked but after 10 minutes of searches I couldn't find a relevant thread, so sorry for the repeat.

  4. I just ran a class and had problems in my Stag with the MidwestPX 15/20s IF I loaded them fully to 15 rounds...first round wouldn't always strip off correctly. If loaded only to 14 rounds I never had this problem.

I also ran the metal 15 rounders from Arms&Ammo and never had any issues with them.

    YMMV

  5. Hi Paul

On your 15 round metal mags is it possible to remove the baseplate to add a magpul ranger plate? I haven't done much screwing around and didn't want to break anything.

I've used the mags in training and they work flawlessly, just a little tough to get out of pouches designed for 30 round mags so I wanted to add the magpul plates.

    Thanks

    Keith

  6. I have one and love it. Took it to the 100yd range at EFGA for the first time a few weeks back. Ppl always say "it'll hit minute of a felon at 100 yards" and that's exactly what it does. I was shooting mostly offhand, a little kneeling with bench support and I put 48 of 60 rounds on a standard police sized target in the black (body outline); and no I don't claim to be a good shot so hitting the guy 100 yards away is good enough for me...better marksmen can probably do better with this gun. Iron sights, zero upgrades on this gun, just added the sling that came with it.

I contacted the folks who make that barrel strut and they very kindly told me their initial tests on the newer models (mine is a blued synthetic stock from last year) see maybe a 10-15% improvement inaccuracy AFTER the barrel is heated up. They also said your POI was likely to change because the point of the strut is that it adjusts the harmonics of the barrel so it will affect flight. i decided against it and have since dumped an ungodly amt of money (for me anyway) into my first AR build. EDIT: I actually spoke to folks that made a different accuracy strut...not the one linked above via gunblast...sorry

My Mini-14 will still continue to get range time because I like that it feels/looks like a rifle and I like to remain somewhat proficient with all my guns (i don't have many to worry about). My biggest complaint is that the mags are f'in expensive!!! I've not found an aftermarket mag that gets decent reviews so I've stuck with the factory ones and I just poke around ebay to see if I can catch somebody dumping some and pick them up for at least a little bit of a discount. The only other thing I've noticed is it gets a little touchy with the steel cased ammo once the barrel heats up, but that may also be an extractor issue that the interwebs say has popped up on some of the newer models; but not so much that everybody has it and Ruger has also replaced everything without problems for everyone I've read. I haven't sent mine in yet as it was only twice in about 1000 rounds. Oh and it chucks brass like you wouldn't believe...be prepared to try and get the far right bench on a range without dividers or the dude next to you will not be happy.

But for all intents and purposes an awesome gun especially at the price point with one of the most popular calibers in the world.

  7. So I started the thread but actually haven't completed this project yet. I got one quote that was ~$5000 total for this generator: http://www.electricgeneratorsdirect.com/Generac-Guardian-5870-Standby-Generator/p4763.html

    Installation included

-automatic transfer switch for 10 circuits on my board

    -concrete pad

-wires from generator to box (~30 ft)

-estimate on gas line I'd need to move (~25 ft)

I got the guy on referral from generac's website for their approved vendors. He said somethin about if you buy it yourself and then ask him to install it it voids some of the warranties. I haven't revisited because I'm waiting for the gas company to come out and inspect the lines to see if they can take the added load and possibly upgrade my meter. That's been in the wait for 3 weeks, but asking around they typically do that for free unless it ends up being a major upgrade. Will keep you guys posted.

  8. Keith - congrats, looks great. You will LOVE the brake that stag puts on their uppers. I had almost no sight distortion with mine.

Mine actually looks a little cockeyed, I mean i guess I'll figure out if it's a problem over the next 2 weeks with sighting in and a training class...but I would think the smaller holes would be directly at 12:00 but they're closer to 11:00...normal?

  9. Keith, I have that same exact upper, I really like mine. Two quick suggestions. For some reason that upper came with two sling mounts, one on the bottom and one on the side. I took off the extra one that I knew I wasn't going to use. Also, I think you should move your light down to the rail. Right now, not only is it harder to reach, but it's also in your field of view. If you move it down to the left side of the rail (left side when you're holding the rifle as if firing it), you'll be able to turn it on without taking you hand off the rail or foregrip, and it won't block your field of view.

Nice rifle, and congratulations on building your first one.

Thanks, right now I'm using the side mounted sling point but will wait till after my class to see which I like better. The light is up there because I use the thumb-over-top hold on the rifle so I actually don't take my hand off the gun to flick the light. The foregrip is more of a stopper than anything, and a handle to pick the thing up, and something for my wife to use because she's short. Excellent point about the FOV though, will need to see how it works in my class.

  10. Cherry = popped...my first AR. Sorry for the crappy pics, my only camera is on my phone. First pic is dissembled parts and rest are different perspectives of the assembled gun.

    Specs:

    Stag 2HT Upper w/plus package

New Frontier Armory LW-15 Polymer Lower

CAA TPR15x Front Sight Mounted Dual Rail

    Streamlight TLR-1s

    Magpul RVG

Larue Index Clips (which I'm toying with on the entire rail section, figuring out if I like them or not)

MAGS EFX-A1 Stock (kit from Stag Arms that includes buffer tube & spring)

Sling is some 3-1 tac sling from a cancelled military contract that Botach had on sale for $10 weeks ago...haven't used it but its going thru the GFH Urban Carbine 1 class in a couple weeks so we'll see how I like it.

Anyway test firing and sighting in this weekend @ EFGA but pretty pumped about it & hope it works out! Will be fed by 15rd mags purchased on this forum from MidwestPX and A&A exclusively!

  11. Anybody put solar panels on their house?

I've already done all my research into generators and know where I'll go on that path, but I'd like to do the same research on solar. Anybody have a positive/negative experience here? Any vendors/contractors/manufacturers you recommend or don't?

I don't want to do that leasing thing where the company owns the panels on your roof and you get a little bit of a break. I'd be buying my own stuff outright, having my own setup and either a) storing the power in batteries or b) sending it back to the grid.

Not too much real good info I've found online...mostly a bunch of sales crap...at least in the NJ area. Would like some real experience & specs from anybody on here willing to share.

  12. Is there some unwritten rule about manufacturers not wanting to be called when they completely miss their target delivery date for a gun?

I've been waiting on an upper from Stag (a model 2, not one of the super popular model 3 or 3g ones) since the beginning of April. When I ordered their website said a 4-5 week lead time on stuff. I called them at 5-6 weeks and they said they were waiting on the handguards. I called every other week after that and they were still waiting on that, and then when I finally got a different person they said they were also waiting on the M16 bolt carrier (because i got the plus package), which they never told me before. They called me last week saying if I took a semi-auto bolt carrier instead of the M16 they could ship out my gun this week, and after some deliberation I decided yeah because I'd love to take GFH Urban Carbine 1 in a couple weeks with my new AR.

I call in on Tuesday and say "hey did this ship out". Guy says "no its done but it didn't make the shipment, it should go out after the holiday". Cool...wait all day yesterday and nothing. Just called now and they said "upper is getting finished and it'll go out today".

But why I'm ticked is now their website says lead times are down to only 1-2 weeks. So did I get screwed because I kept calling? Did I just hit the worst part of the supply chain? Did they just update their website because they were afraid of losing orders?
