  1. Shouldn't be a long wait which was great.

I've been waiting on my 2HT upper w/plus package from them for 3 weeks already...only difference from memory is the standard A2 front sight and Samson Star C quad rail...wonder which is backordered

  2. Seems that rural areas are perhaps more dangerous than the burbs. Larger properties, more isolated from the neighbors, etc. Not that home invasions/burglaries don't happen in the burbs, but they seem to be more common in the styx.

Union County has seen a pretty decent uptick in "break-ins"...but they're not really break-ins they're people who leave their cars, doors, or windows unlocked. In the 2 years I've been here only one forceable entry by some guys with guns and shot the homeowner in the leg on the way out for his hospitality.

  3. The Sprinco : http://www.waltherforums.com/forum/ppq/22002-dpm-recoil-management-vs-sprinco-recoil-management.html

I love the PPQ...it's my first 9mm I've spent substantial time on and like I said, switching to 147gr rounds has me consistently hitting 3x5 cards @ 10yrds in a Bill Drill type of practice. 124gr is a little snappier and I need to concentrate a little harder on follow-up shots.

I think I'll spend the 80 bucks on ammo and call it a day unless anybody has any rave reviews about it

  4. Thinking about getting a recoil reducer (guide rod/spring assembly) from Sprinco for my competition gun. What are the impacts of how I can classify/shoot if I do this in IDPA/USPSA?

I dont' think it matters in IDPA but I thought if you do anything internal for USPSA you get bumped into the custom division and compete against ppl with $5000 guns.

  5. Thanks for the recommendations folks. I liked the look of the Larue clips and found them (or maybe knockoffs) on eBay for pretty cheap so I'll try those out first. Will post pics once I get everything assembled (still waiting on my upper from Stag)

  6. I'm getting a Stag upper with Samson star-C free-float rail but the only thing I'm mounting on it (for now!) is a Magpul RVG. I'd like to cover up the rest of the rail with something that's a little grippy, not too bulky, and won't break if I need to take it off. I don't mind cutting to fit around accessories.

I know Magpul and a few other folks make those small panels. The rest of the market seems to be either ladder style super low profile stuff or somewhat bulkier panels that completely hide the underlying "teeth" of the rail.

Brands that have caught my eye thus far are:

    Surefire

    Mako

    Blackhawk

    Magpul

But without being able to touch the damn things it's impossible to know what I'd like so I'm trying to poll our local AR community and see what ppl like. I'm 5'11" and have decently large hands, but again don't want something so bulky that my wife (5'2") couldn't hold the dang gun. Theoretically I'd prefer the type that fully protect the underlying rail just to have one less thing to worry about getting beat up.

Anyway...opinions? Please include links to the manufacturer or retailer site where I could see whatever you're talking about. Pics of it on your AR would be even better and probably make this thread way more fun! :zzthiwwop: ...or links

  7. Infuriating. If I donate enough to South Jersey/Philadelphia police departments can I ignore the law too?

    Y-E-S

guarantee you if you sent the guy's kid to college for a year or two you could do whatever you want in that town. Or just be a lawyer on retainer for them for free...

I'm not saying most LEOs, or any more than a few, are like this...but that doesn't make the behavior condoned.

  8. sorry to resurrect the thread, but a quick question I can't find a decent answer to from almighty google

do I need a "fine" stone to finish sharpening?

My purpose here is regular kitchen knives (not super expensive stuff) and working tools (pocket knives, axes, etc).

From what I can tell coarse is great for the outdoor tools but I've also seen some stuff about "finishing" an edge with a fine stone. I was planning to just get a coarse and medium Lansky diamond stones (http://www2.knifecenter.com/item/LSLDB6M/Lansky-6-inch-x-2-inch-Diamond-Benchstone-Medium)...do I need a fine?

  9. I just got my first shotgun ever, Mossberg 590 Special Purpose (model # 50668), and just took it apart and there's what I'd call A LOT of oil in most of the moving parts. I know you're supposed to run AR's pretty well lubed but I wasn't sure about shotguns so I thought I'd ask.

Is this just factory grease crap I need to clean out or should I apply lube liberally to this thing?

    Thanks

    Keith

p.s. Yes I will post pictures once I put it back together and get my few accessories on there

  10. For guns and precious metals etc just make sure you have a homeowners rider for that stuff. It's not worth friggin around when someone has a gun to your head...

Second this. Make a video of what's in your safe and include catalog numbers and receipts if you can. That way your insurance company can't screw you (in theory...they always find a way though right?) by playing around with model numbers and such and you "should" be able to get full replacement cost at current market prices out of them. Where you have a possible loss is the shipping, nics, transfer, tax factor...that's where the receipts come in handy. Only real loss is the nostalgia/attachment you may have to any specific piece, but agree with other posters it's not worth your life.
