  1. I would be concerned about all that leas hanging around my dog's neck. Remember 22 rf is only plated not jacketed.

Im not entirely sure if it would be too big of an issue. While there is certainly lead in the round, there is no skin to lead contact (about 1/4" of leather between) or cause for particulates to become airborne, but I agree its a question worth pondering if im missing other means of absorption/contamination.

  2. I'm not completely sure but you may be able to destroy the primer by dumping a little oil in the empty casing. If you don't want a hammer mark on the brass. Please test first! So I may be interested in some dog collars. can you post any pics of other ones you have done? Also post some prices or PM me please. I may be interested in 2 small dog collars (dachshund) and a friend of mine might be interested in one for his GSP

That would be ideal, however i'm hesitant of its effects over the course of say 10-12 years and if it could still pose a hazard. Id obviously prefer the look of an unstruck primer, but if there is still a chance of a primer ignition im not sure if id be comfortable taking the risk.

Here's a few samples of previous collars. Prices really vary depending on design, cost of hardware used, etc. My collar price range varies from $75-$200. You can find some more of my work on facebook at Ridgeway Leatherworks or @ridgewayleather on instagram.

  3. So I've been doing custom leatherwork (firefighter accesories and custom dog collars) for the past few years and have had someone ask specifically for .22lr rounds to be incorporated into their dog's collar. After a little digging, ive found a few vendors actually do create decorations with inert .22. My guess is bullet pulling, dumping the powder out, setting off the primer, and finally reseating the bullet. Anyone ever do something like this before? Any special considerations to be mindful of that I am not taking into account? Thanks in advance!

  4. I would love to be on such an expedition. For me, the Luger P08 is my dream gun but good samples with all matching #s are hard to find and can be expensive!

Somehow, I think the metal detector will be your best bet. Just set it so it won't alert to every nail in the joists. I would hope it was well preserved.

Moisture happens with temperature changes and won't effect insulation but will surely damage steel.

I am certain someone on the forum has a good metal detector and would be happy to lend it to you! I would have scoured every square inch by now

with my bare hands if I thought There was a P08 in my attic. Best of luck in your search.

Post a request here for a metal detector. http://njgunforums.com/forum/index.php/forum/93-njgf-pass-around/

Please let us know how you make out and what you find!

I looked around about your Iver Johnson and found this quote:

"factory serial number records for post WWII iver johnson firearms are not available. when the company changed hands in 1975 some records were turned over to BATF, but they are making it very hard to get copies of these records. for now manufacture date of all post WWII iver johnson firearms are an educated guess."

With the K prefix, I would say early 1960's

I would think it would have tried to take some measures to protect it. The iver was oiled wet, triple bagged and tucked away. It was pretty wet when I took it out. I took some pics of finding the IJ. He had it tucked away in a fireplace clean out so it was kind of like a little treasure hunt. I had hopes it was the luger, as we had no idea he had this one. Thanks again!

  5. Hello again... its been a while. I recently acquired my Grandfather's Iver Johnson Trailsman 66 .22. I know they dont have any monetary value but I was curious as to its date of manufacture. Serial is K122xx. Thank you!

Next is off to find this mythical ww2 luger he allegedly hid somewhere in the attic. Only 1500 sq ft of insulation to rummage through.

  6. Hiding purchases from the wife/husband.

Ability to shoot personally owned firearms on a lunch or dinner breaks without transporting them in compliance of NJ laws.

Safe storage when children are in household.

Safe storage when on extended vacation or business trips.

Just plain lazy/stupid or a combination of both.

Well looking forward I hope they weigh that as a risk of keeping their firearms offsite and out of their possession. Something about 9/10ths of the law or some sort? :)

  7. You think you got issues. I had to break the news to a customer on Saturday.... He was picking up his rifle and was going to brick.... "No one answers the phone at brick"   I told him they were shut down by the NJ division of tax. he starts freaking out that he has 5 guns in storage at brick.

Why would you keep 5 guns in storage at an FFL?

  8. IF it was run correctly, most here would bemoan the fees charged, the same way they did when Woodland Park first opened.  Forum members, as a whole, are both CHEAP and short-sighted.  There are a few of us here who aren't......and the forum is replete with examples throughout the threads.  If the mindset were to change for the better, then a range could charge what it has to in order to keep the doors open.

I know. Just echoing my own experiences after witnessing how a good portion of NJGF turned on ShoreShot immediately after they discontinued their discount for members.. They were crucified as if they truly owed something to each individual member. I know we drove a lot of traffic their way but man we were childish as a group towards reacting to their change in policy. That said, BA was also a sponsor back in the day and caught a bad rep.... Any business that wants to tap into a hobby specific forum such as this would have to tread lightly between being a centerpiece of NJGF's Vendor Sponsors, vs operating a successful, profitable business.

  9. You could use an online auto payment calculator but a lot of factors really rest in your court. Given the chance to upgrade options, how much are you willing to spend total on the car? Do you want just a base model? The term of loan and the financing play a huge part and is essentially 2/3rds of the payment calculation.

I wouldnt expect to go to a dealer and find a bare bones model but it is possible. Stop by a dealer and see what the sticker prices are on some of the particular car you are looking at. Note that you can obviously get less than sticker price, but dont expect for them to knock 30-40% off the car. You can ball park your total car estimate and dont forget to add taxes (7% on the final cost) as well as title fees (approx $500 give or take) If you can approximate the final value of the vehicle you are buying within a grand or two, research the financing deals both Ford offers for a Mustang AS WELL AS independent car financing from say a car or a bank, and the term in which you are ok with paying for a new car you can get a pretty close figure as to your monthly payment.
