How did you make out?
I didn't "pull the trigger" yet. I plan on mounting a scope to my Ruger Scout Rifle. I'm trying to figure out how bad the cheek weld would be with a 50mm objective. I have an XS Rail to mount in the traditional position, but the rail extends forward past the objective, so it will require very high rings to fit. Fitment would be similar to a flattop AR. I have a scope with a 42mm objective now, and there looks to be 2-3mm clearance now with Leupold high QD rings. Cheek weld is fine with this set-up, but I'm not sure if 50mm is too much with high rings. I was also thinking about the 2.5-10x scope, but that only in FFP. Most of my shooting will be bullseye paper-punching, so it's possible the FFP will become too thick on higher magnification. I would look at the SFP model, but it lacks side focus. Does anyone have any additional recommendations? I want an illuminated reticle for no other reason than I want it.

Thanks guys. I'm going to check out Camera Land.

I'm looking to buy most likely a 4-16x, debating on SFP vs FFP. Has anyone come across any really good deals? Thanks!

why not try to do something like this? using a carbide bit in a die grinder you should be able to make it look pretty decent.
Thanks for taking the time to do that- it looks great! I think I'll proceed accordingly. If not, I'll grind the ears, and drill a hole an permanently install a rivet, so the channel will be too wide to slide the bayonet through.

. If it can't hold a bayo, is it a bayo lug?
Well technically, with the ears ground off, a bayonet can still be attached, just not as fixed in place. At the same time, one could effective duct-tape a bayonet to a barrel or rail, and it would likely work pretty well.
-
I'd just grind off the ears.
That's what I thought, but I read somewhere on the web that just grinding the ears is not sufficient. But as they say, can't trust everything you see on the interwebz . . .

Hey guys. My recently purchased SIG 516 upper has a bayonet lug machined into the gas block. I want to keep it as aesthetically pleasing as possible, and therefore want to remove as little as possible, yet be compliant. Please advise which of my below options would likely be deemed acceptable.

Free Rentals is for ALL the guns on the Wall.
I love u guys more every day.
In a straight, brotherly way of course

honestly i never realized that. didnt ever read that its pistol only and not firearm in general. Anyone want to touch on keeping it in a business i do not own? I know a pistol is no unless the owner. What about a shotgun or rifle?
I would like to know about this too. The impression I'm getting is I can leave a long gun in my car throughout the state of NJ, as long as it's kept unloaded? I'm assuming you would need to take it out if stopping at a bar for instance?
-
Uggh, me too. I've got a gold membership and I've only used 1 of the rentals so far
I keep buying my own guns and I barely have enough time to shoot those
-
I believe those free rentals with your membership count for anything on the wall, top shelf or not. At least that's how mine have been treated.
I was hoping to hear that!! Now I have to use them before my membership expires (and of course I will renew)

My membership package (silver level) included some free rentals, none of which I've used. How does that work if I want to try out the higher end stuff? Can I trade 2 credits for 1 "tope shelf" rental? Or can I pay the difference? Thanks.

How long is the barrel w/out the <faux> flash hider?
-
Not what you are looking for, but there are several BNIB G19 & G17 GEN3 OD Glocks at Police Products in Wyckoff. The owner is a really cool guy too if anyone is interested.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems like buying a comp due to the sound level seems weird.
I'm buying a comp because my barrel is already threaded and I need to do something to comply with NJ law. Instead of welding a thread protector, I figured why not try something new? I went with the BC because many reviews of the PWS said it is unsuitable for indoor ranges. From what many have said, the performance is very close between the two, but the volume/concussion is much higher with the PWS. I also don't want to be an a**hole to the guys next to me at the range. I'm not looking for absolute best performance at all costs, but a balance between performance and comfort. That's precisely why people buy a BMW M3 over Lotus Elise.
-
Just to update- I failed to mention that the vast majority of my shooting will be done indoors. Upon mentioning this, several vendors have advised me to go with the Battlecomp 1.5 instead due to sound levels. This was advise heeded and I placed my order accordingly.

So I guess it's my turn to chime in and say: Take the flag out. File off the little "D" shaped lug. Reinstall the flag. Externally no one can tell the IL is non-functional. There is no gap beside the hammer for safarcus and toe-jam to get into and gum-up the works, and you never have to worry about a malfunction again.
Adios,
Pizza Bob
Thanks Pizza Bob. As this is my fiancé's range toy, we'll probably leave it alone to keep the S&W warranty. I have full faith in other guns that we both shoot better more consistently for a defense situation. On a side note, how did u pick the name?

To comment on issues ppl have with the ILS, I'd like to share my experiences. Between my fiancé and I, there have prob been 6-700 rds fired thru here 686+ Pro Series. Every one in a while I dry fire it, with snap caps to try to get more comfortable with a revolver grip. Anyway, 3 times so far the little safety flag has popped up when slowly pulling the trigger back in DA, forcing the hammer to lock in its position. To be honest I forget how exactly I got it unlocked, but I remember it taking a few minutes each time. Am I doing something wrong? Or should we send it to S&W? Otherwise the thing is a work of art, and the trigger is incredible. After those experiences, I would feel more confident with several other firearms that have had no malfunctions, be it dry fired, or in actual live use.

What size hands do you have? Where do you live? You can try both of mine if you are local. I have a USP 45T and a P30L 9mm. USP has a much better trigger and reset, but the P30 has the better grip. USP requires big hands, the P30 should fit anyone with the right side panel/backstrap configuration.

Everyone who lives in NJ should have a FID. It's better to have and not need than to need and not have. Especially since they don't exactly have overnight delivery.
I agree 100%. My advice was to get one anyway- why wouldn't you want it?
-
Great- questions answered. Thanks guys.
-
Thanks guys. Just to be clear, even though he brought it in from out of state, he doesn't need a FID to keep it in his house?

Ok, so a co-worker of mine legally purchased a shotgun in the state of CA back in 1991. He brought it with him to NJ years ago, but never applied for a permit. Today he comes asking me if he needs to register it to be legal in his home in NJ. I told him I am in no way an expert, but my understanding is that he would need a NJ Firearms Purchaser ID, but he would not need to register. I am correct in saying this? Just in case you were wondering, it is a Mossberg pump of legal barrel length, so according to his description, it should be NJ legal. Thanks.
Looking for Vortex Viper PST- any deals floating around?

That's for their lower end model. Thanks though.
