    I'd sell you one. Different model number and different components. The Colt 6940, for example, is legal in NJ.

    A Colt 6940 has much more against it than my pistol:

    • Threaded barrel with a flash hider (can solved by permanently affixing a legal Branson brake almost identical to the flash hider)
    • Bayonet lug (usually ground off)
    • Six-position stock (usually pinned)
    • Comes standard with two 20-round Colt magazines (permanently reduced to 15 rounds or replaced with aftermarket magazines in 10 or 15 round capacity)
    • The ability to accept a detachable magazine (usually retained as one of two permissible evil features)
    • A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuosly beneath the action (usually retained as one of two evil features)

    Finally, this seems the most damning strike against the 6940: "The LE6940 has extensive parts commonality with the M4 . . ." and "the Colt LE6940 Advanced Law Enforcement Carbine is best thought of as a semi-automatic-only version of the M4"

    Let him come to buy from me. If he really is trying to circumvent the system as a prohibited person I will personally lock him up. If he is just ignorant then some education is in order

    You still have quite a number of folks out there with banned weapons who don't realize they're banned (1970s Colt AR-15s come to mind). If we have local PDs (and some state troopers) who lack knowledge about state and federal firearms laws, you clearly have a lot of uneducated civilians with misconceptions.

    I like this option.  Biggest concern is a naive individual not knowing any better.  Worst case is a prohibited person trying to circumvent the law for some nefarious reason.  BLF can feel it out.  Provide education if needed, or cuffs if needed.

    Yeah, usually crooks don't purchase from by making cold calls to an online ad. Criminals purchase legally, steal weapons, or work through through bonafide shady channels. They seldom approach an unknown individual on the Internet and say, "Hey, here's my contact information. Let's do an illegal deal."

    I would just educate him. Many people are fearful, and with good reason, that paperwork will lead to confiscation or undue scrutiny from the government. Do we really want to gig someone by publishing his number? I would just gently explain to him the legalities of the issue, and tell him the implications of what he's asking. Some people are under the impression that a "loophole" exists, and that we can buy and sell unencumbered in NJ (paperwork optional). Maybe this is his first gun purchase since the pre-Brady-Bill seventies.

    I have regular hours that my "establishment" is available to the public, but a phone call before hand is necessary (I'm often at Picatinny or in Hopatcong).

     

    I'll be stocking what I can, but none of the wholesalers really has anything in stock to speak of. I have my wish list of guns. The things I'm going to try to purchase are mainly weapons that everyone wants to own. I will definitely be more oriented toward "tactical" modern weapons. I can't afford to have much on the shelf at the moment, because we're trying to buy a house a little closer to the shop. I'm happy to track down specifically what you want, new or used.

    I recently spoke with Barrett about the possibility of procuring low cost serialized .50 BMG components, e.g., the complete stripped lower receiver or just the mag well. I know I don't have $8,000 to drop on one at the moment, but I have always dreamed about owning one (at one point, I was actually bidding on them when I was a little more flush with cash).

     

    Who would be interested in this type of product?

    The courts ruled a long time ago that the nj awb is only applicable to real firearms, not BB guns. I'll fund the case when I get home.

    if a BB gun is a firearm in NJ... do semi auto ones have to comply with AWB.. and if your answer is NO.. tell me why..

    No.....and maybe yes, there is a court ruling on that. NJ was enjoined from enforcing the AWB against air guns, but from what I remember there were still some features that were not necessarily mentioned in the ruling and could still be illegal.

    That's a big friggin rat. Where the hell are you getting them in your house. I've only seen em along creeks and rivers

     

    I think they may have been feeding off a neighbors dog food at one point. I live in Hopatcong.

     

    ive hunted rats in a few barns for fun dont use bbs they come right back at you at almost the same speed they were shot.my best luck was with a sheridan bluestreak in 20 ,its a pain to find pellets in 20 so id go 22 next time.if you are having problems getting them in a trap or to eat bait try pre baiting or put out a dozen unset rat traps use a bait such as peanut butter or rancid bacon for several days after you are sure they are eating what you are offering set the traps.as far as snap traps use victor exspanded trigger or t rex traps the others hurt like hell when the accidently go off

     

    The Sheridan looks pretty compact. I was really hoping to find a pistol that would do the trick, so I can keep it in my pocket. They aren't touching the peanut butter. I have an electric trap, glue traps, and snap traps. I haven't tried rancid bacon. After catching over two dozen, I think I'm down to the last two. They enter the house in a two-rat team. I've seen them together. A few full auto bursts of .22 pellets would put them in their place. :) Who doesn't want a belt-fed .22 air gun?

    Try a hunting pellet.

    I've had excellent results with the bb tipped pellet from Gamo as well as the re polymer tipped pellet.

    Dropped numerous squirrels one shot at 650fps and 1650fps.

     

    Notice the two BB tipped pellets on the glue trap. I think they're probably pretty good; they just need a little more than <380 FPS.

    That sucker is 9-1/2 inches long, NOT including the tail. Please note the huge bulging package on that thing. It came up from the basement and groomed itself in front of me on my computer desk.

     

    I took a shot at it (at least I think it was the same one) in the basement with the pellet pistol, and I think I may have connected. Obviously the pellets didn't seal the deal. Thanks to the glue trap, I was able to confirm that this combination of air pistol and pellets is not cutting it.

     

    I have two more that have eluded every type of trap we have set. These suckers chewed right through the sub floor (3/4 inch solid decking) and into the house. They're really wiley, and I don't think they will take poison, but that's a last resort anyway (I'm not big on decaying rodents in house). Since they're not shy about coming up to the main floor while I'm up and about, I'm hoping to take them down with either the air rifle or a high pressure pellet pistol.

     

    Once I eradicate these little contagion bearing nightmares, I'll seal everything up. Once these guys establish a territory, they do not seem to be deterred by blocked passages. I think the mesh thing is unlikely to work, since they already chewed through the braided stainless supply hose for the dishwasher (flooding the house and basement while I was at work).

    This is for those of you who have questions about the efficacy of air guns for small vermin.

     

    I was unsure of the terminal ballistics of a .177 pellet from a pellet pistol. I attempted to dispatch a rat with the pellet pistol this morning using a Gamo rocket pellet http://www.gamousa.com/product.aspx?productID=80 from my Umarex PX4 replica. http://www.umarexusa.com/airguns/bb-guns/beretta-px4-storm.

     

    My thinking was that I should use a slow moving projectile that wouldn't destroy the house. I guess I should have looked at the ballistics for that pellet before I employed it, because all the projectiles from the pistol failed to adequately penetrate the behemoth rat. Two BBs from the Umarex Morph in rifle configuration with the velocity cranked up put the rat down immediately. I might see what the Predator pellets do to this rat carcass from the pistol, but at this point, I think I'll be looking for an HPA pellet pistol to get the velocity up there for a clean kill.

    Great to hear! Brian's a good guy. I wish that I had the cash at the time to put in my own order at the time.

     

    I may do a similar deal for my initial order with Sig Sauer when I get my FFL. At this point, I think May is still a pretty good possibility. I'll most likely become a site vendor at that point. Maksim was telling me that the price request is used pretty regularly by forum members, so I imagine my sponsorship will pay for itself.

    Half the problem is the "NJ" attitude.

     

    I disagree. I've run into gun shop attitude in CA, UT, PA, and AL. Condescending sneers while they pretend you're not there, scolding lectures about gun law (frequently based rumor and oral tradition), insulting comments about your choice of weapon, no post-purchase hugs when you do find what you're looking for . . . .
