  1. UnitedContinental charges me too much to get to the store in TX :)

Just find a work-related reason to come down and let the boss pay for it. Or, there's plenty of stuff to take pictures of here...then you can call it "business" and write the whole trip off on your taxes. (Not that I would advocate screwing the government out of YOUR hard earned money)

  2. I've never paid for shipping brass to Freedom...I just go right to their store 20 minutes from my house. They give the same credit as online. The in-store price, plus sales tax is a bit higher than online but it's still less than the cost of shipping brass. I usually get 20-40 pounds per week during USPSA/IDPA matches so a trip to the store every other month usually results in a box of 225gr .45 bullets and a box of 135gr 9mm bullets that I don't have to pay for at all.

  3. I'm back in state (working) until Dec 19th and was hoping there would be a shoot at Clinton WMA on a Sunday (or Saturday afternoon...working in the morning) between now and then. If not, if some folks want to meet up to bust some clays. I wasn't able to bring any guns with me but I could certainly pick up some clays and shells if I could shoot someone's gun.

  4. Except for the traffic issue, the Houston area meets or exceeds all of your points.

Conroe/The Woodlands, 20ish miles north of Houston is nice

    -NO state income tax

    -lower property taxes

    -not sure about estate tax

    -definitely lower COL

    -Many new condo/townhouse/houses

-2 Brand new hospitals currently under construction in Conroe/Woodlands

-NO SNOW (and rarely any temps in 30° range)

-Much friendlier people-even WalMart employees are polite and pleasant

-Traffic sucks if you commute into Houston

    -Less population density

-Lonestar College and Sam Houston State University in Woodlands

-Plenty of state/national parks in the state

-Plenty of potable water supplied by multiple reservoirs in the area

-an abundance of political sanity - refer to Gov. Greg Abbott

  5. Read the laws before you start quoting them.

51% places are required to post state defined signage at every entrance.

Churches, etc. are only off limits if posted with appropriate, state defined signs.

After living here for nearly a year, the only place I've a seen 30.06 sign is at one doctor's office...and it didn't meet the state requirements to be enforceable. When I asked them about it, the reply was "it's a corporate mandate that we post it. But since it doesn't meet the requirements, we can't, and don't enforce it."

So that equals exactly 0 places that I've been to that I couldn't carry. And yes, I voted this year...I just did so via absentee ballot since I was working out of state.

  6. Other than needing a license to carry, what TX gun laws suck?

Is it unlicensed carry in vehicles? Or campus carry? Or unlicensed open carry of long guns? Or restrictions on what businesses can restrict carry? Or the very specific regulations regarding the parameters of how "No Carry" signs are worded and posted?

  7. Being a resident and a Licensed Handgun Carrier of Texas, the only reason I know of NJ's asinine gun laws is because I escaped that commie shithole after 20+ years. Other than that, I wouldn't have any clue as to how f'ed up your gun laws are.

I've recently been working from MS up to IL and had to stop in the middle of the Paducah ghetto to remove and lock up my sidearm before crossing the bridge into IL, which is almost as bad as NJ for CCW. But at least IL residents can get a carry permit in their own state.

  8. Both of my kids spent several years at Golden Rule, an Isshin Ryu dojo in Oxford. My son went in as an autistic 8 year old who was scared of his shadow and my daughter started as a 13 year old who couldn't imagine actually hitting another person. By the time we moved to TX six years later, both had earned their first level of brown belt...but more importantly, they learned self confidence, respect for themselves and others and self defense. They teach some BJJ and ground fighting along with traditional martial arts. They're not a "belt factory"...the students actually have to learn and earn each progressive belt level and they won't be promoted until the sensei feels they're ready, mentally, physically, and emotionally.

  9. Picked it up at 10:30 this morning and was on the range by 11:00. Very accurate. I'm impressed with it...especially since it's a sub $300 gun.

First thing I did was break it down, run a patch with Hoppes through the barrel and hit the rails with some CLP. Then proceeded to put 200 holes in a piece of paper. Shot 150 rounds of 115gr reloads and 50 147gr Winchester training rounds. Surprisingly, it ran the 115's better. As long as my extra mags come in tomorrow, I'll be running it at IDPA tomorrow night for a true idea of its capabilities.
