  1. Ready to leave NJ yet.....?

This is all inevitable UNLESS they get voted out.. WHICH they won't as gun owners are out numbered as a voting block

What does it tell you when some states strengthen gun rights and others weaken them?

Does it not make sense to leave the less friendly State to one that is more in line with your thinking?

This entire battle in this state is pointless, unless you can win in the courts..... Imo if the scotus does not hear the current case from NJ.. Might as well back it in....

We don't have to be a majority voting block. In a state (scratch that, as a COUNTRY) where voter turn out is laughable, the margin of victory is substantially less than 10%. Obama won 51.1 versus 47.2% against Romney. If every single gun owner came out and voted against the anti gun politicians in Trenton (and we will assume only about 45% typically turn out based on average voter turnouts) that means at least 6% more votes for the pro gun politicians then that is enough to vote out the antis out of office...

  2. I think, one very important point is missing.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Ukraine (as well as Belarus and Kazakhstan) became a brand new owner of the nuclear weapons.  In fact, Ukraine became the third in the world after the US and Russia.  (And Belarus became number one in the world in nukes per capita.)  Nobody was happy about this situation.  After negotiations, Ukraine gave up the nukes in exchange for the guarantee of its territorial integrity by some major world powers including US and Russia.

Giving up anything of essence for a paper promise never works.  Now Ukraine doesn't have nukes, neither territorial integrity.

The question is - are we going to see fewer or more countries willing to have nukes?  Another question - when every rogue regime has a bomb (if they can produce it but can buy) - how long it would take for a nuke go off in NY City?

Absolutely right.  I was on my way out the door for a birthday party and didn't have time to post a complete response.  But in essence Russia is breaking a legal agreement they signed off on to guarantee Ukraine's sovereignty yet here they are now getting ready to invade.  Putin's words and promises are worthless and empty and set a bad example for nuclear disarmament.  Can you imagine how a North Korea would react now if we "promised" a legal agreement to guarantee their sovereignty if "they disarmed" all nukes, same for the Irans of the world?  It's never going to happen now.  My wife says there are bare empty holes in the ground where Yanakovich ripped out military weapon and sold them off for his own profit and now Ukraine is near defenseless.  It's a terrible situations for Ukrainians (but great for Russians who want to annex the country)...kind of reminds me of the people who want to disarm 2A rights under the guise that "we will all be safer." Yeah, sure...

  3. As a former Ukranian, I am damn glad one way or another, the abuse of Russian speakers in Ukraine will finally come to an end.

Bottom line... nothing to worry about, nor is this any of America's business.  When most folks could not even locate Ukraine on the map.  Just something that is thrown on the news to take your mind off of how screwed the United States is on the domestic front.

Boeing just spent 2.6 billion dollars on a deal with Russia and invested in another deal for over 17 billion over the next 7 years.  The economies are so intertwined, any sactions will hurt the US and EU more than Russia.  (after all, Russia actually has account surpluses instead of trillions in Debt. lol).

I would say as with anything, the news coverage you get here, of Russia and Ukraine is just as correct as the picture they paint of gun owners.

I still have family and friends in parts of Ukraine and they would all beg to differ with the coverage you have here.

What has the puppet government done so far in Ukraine?  They have instituted new military taxes, and drafted a bunch of males to the army.  The fascists and nazi's in Ukraine, under the "right sector" who were part of Maidan and the new government have taken control over the government and have beaten senseless any Russian speakers.  They have shot the mayor of a pro Russian town, told jews they needed to register, they have beaten up and sent to the hospital a Russian speaking candidate for president, they have made movements to cancel Holacaust remembrance and WW2 victory day parades in June.

Depends on who you speak to.  My wife is Ukrainian, she moved her 5 years ago and she has extensive family there as well as friends, as do I (I would travel there and stay there for months at a time, one of my best friends is an officer in the army stationed in Kiev).  To a person they all denounce what Putin is doing and say the situation is bad, and the *all* want the US and Europe to step in and help but realize it probably won't happen.  They all support the new government and hate the corruption that was going on with Yanakovuch and the $100 billion dollars that disappeared, most of it into Russia and Putin's hands.  My wife was part of the Orange Revolution when it occurred not that long ago and many see this as a continuation of that, but probably much more severe.  So while you think the new government are fascists (sounds suspiciously like the rhetoric that Putin is spewing out...and it sounds like you are one of the pro Russian faction in Ukraine) the people I know there think they are salvation.  Same for other Ukrainians I know in the US that I've spoken to.

  4. By the way when you get your FPID card from the police in Jersey City, they give you a piece of paper telling you how to transport your firearms legally, and it says you are obligated to put trigger locks on them when you are transporting.

So there's another "requirement" that is clear as day and police think there is and isn't anywhere in the law.

If you took a poll of the police, how many of them would know the actual legal requirements for transport? The Jersey City police probably are pretty certain about trigger locks. Beware!

That's another reason to never go to Jersey City with my guns. Personally I do not put any trigger locks on my guns, I put them in their cases (which are not locked), ammo in separate container, throw it all in the back of my car (hatchback). As far as I can tell I am following the letter of the law...

  5. Okay I know about transporting firearms within the state - only to and from home - place of business, range, shooting event, or hunting. Similarly if you wanted to go to another state you should show that you are going to a range or hunting (such as in PA). How about if you have a carry permit for the state of PA (or other neighboring state) which of course allows you to drive around these other states carte blanche for the most part (exceptions of course being gun free zones) without fear of reprisals. Is it legal then to simply make a beeline for the PA border with carry permit in wallet without any intent of going to a range/hunting area in this case?

  6. I just thought of a question brought on by another thread where a scenario was described in that if a friend came over to my house and I let him/her handle any of my firearms that this would be considered an illegal transfer as there is no exception for it in the laws. So...

    1) Say I'm at the range. If I let a friend shoot any of my firearms, is that illegal and subject to prosecution?

    2) I have a pistol in a safe at home for home defense purposes. An intruder breaks in when I'm not home and my wife is forced to use the gun to defend herself. Is this an illegal transfer?

  7. There is no exemption for what I said but there are a lot of what you would consider "illegal transfers" that occur on a daily basis.

    1. If I pull up to departures at EWR enroute to a hunting trip in Canada and have all my gear including guns in locked put on a cart by a skycap and taken to the counter is that an illegal transfer?

    2. If I leave one of my guns with my wife when I go on an overnight trip is that an illegal transfer?

    3. If I come over your house and you let me handle one of your guns is that an illegal transfer?

    4. If I am leaving the country for a few months and take all my guns and safe over to a friends house. I put all the guns in the safe and lock it and don't give my friend the key or combination is that an illegal transfer?

In #1 and #4 the person handling my locked up guns has no access to them. If you have no access to the firearm how can there be a transfer.

In #2 and 3 the other person actually takes possession of the gun. I've never heard or anyone arrested for either unless they commit some crime with the gun.

Wouldn't #4 be a case of illegal transport as you are not transporting your firearms between your home and either a place of business, hunting or a range?

  8. Mine is now more comfortable and accurate with my big N frame S&W than all my 9 mm's and the other young ladies I first took to the range are still shooting and have yet to pick up a .22.

I think we tend to underestimate just how capable and game some Women are......

That's true but IMHO better to start small. Some women may surprise you but if it turns out she's not as game as you think she may be turned off forever. My wife shot the 22 and my 6920 on the same day when she started and she hated the noise and recoil from the Colt. She tells me now that if I'd started her on the Colt she would have quit right then and there. But because I started her on the 22 she loves to shoot and she will probably try competition one of these days. Do you want to take a chance with a 12 gauge that you could forever turn her off the sport if you've misjudged her gameness?

  9. In looking at the statute, we have

    (2) A person carrying a firearm or knife in the woods or fields or upon the waters of this State for the purpose of hunting, target practice or fishing, provided that the firearm or knife is legal and appropriate for hunting or fishing purposes in this State and he has in his possession a valid hunting license, or, with respect to fresh water fishing, a valid fishing license;

    (3) A person transporting any firearm or knife while traveling:

    (a) Directly to or from any place for the purpose of hunting or fishing, provided the person has in his possession a valid hunting or fishing license; or

Does this mean we can carry a firearm while fishing? Per the section above, what firearm is "appropriate for hunting and fishing purpose" in NJ?
