  1. Forgot to add mine was the Magpul version. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  2. I'll talk to him. For the record, the ARs are not his, they belong to his friend, my brother doesn't bring his firearms into NY although that is a separate issue and as far as I'm concerned none of my business. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  3. My brother, who also shoots but does so with his buddies, frequently goes to upstate NY to do shooting with his friends, some of whom are LEO. I noticed in a picture he texted me with the text "this is how we roll" one of his friends walking with a pair of AR-15 type rifles across a deck, muzzles pointed down with a dog next to him. It's clear in the picture that he has his finger on each trigger. There's no question in the pic that he has "not acquired a target" unless he means to make mincemeat of the deck...to me this is a pretty blatant disregard or ignorance of the 4th rule of gun safety. My question is should I mention it to him or just leave it be? And in general, should I point out things like this if I see this going on at the range, while hunting, etc?
  4. Just picked up my LE6920 from Steve at Monmouth Arms. He did a very nice job installing a muzzle brake and all the other work required to make the rifle NJ compliant. Very friendly, knowledgeable, and good guy to talk to. NICS was slow so I didn't get out with my Colt for almost 2 hours but the time passed by very quickly as we shot the breeze about everything from ARs to 10/22s to why some movie remakes just don't work. Highly recommended, thanks Steve, looking forward to seeing you in the future!
  5. Any ammo restrictions (such as steel core)? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  6. JTOJ I researched and considered a number of others (Daniel Defense, etc) but the in my research the 6920 was considered by many to be the gold standard. It was more expensive than some (Bushmaster, etc) and less than others (DD, HK, etc) but pricing really wasn't a factor for me. Next on my list may be an Arsenal S7 later this year . 7. Golf, I got it from Tombstone Tactical, $1095 before insurance (shipping was free). Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  8. I should have just googled it <smacks hand on forehead> duh... Final question, I hope...Better to have a 15/20 or 15/30 mag? I'm thinking 15/20 because why have the extra length if it cannot be used? That way I can fit more of them in pockets etc if need be.
  9. I've read the stickies and gone through the gun laws and have several questions (I really miss Florida...): Apologies if these have been answered already. 1) Transport of long guns - I know in the forum stickie it says that there is no restriction on transport of long guns (i.e., deviations to path etc) but, and perhaps I'm being dense and I'm not a lawyer type, but I don't seem to be able to find a distinction in any of the statutes that distinguishes between rifles and handguns in terms of transport to a destination with only reasonable deviations requirement. Can someone point out the specific passage for me? 2) Locked or not locked? Looking at the statutes it states that All weapons being transported under paragraph (2) of subsection b., subsection e., or paragraph (1) or (3) of subsection f. of this section shall be carried unloaded and contained in a closed and fastened case, gunbox, securely tied package, or locked in the trunk of the automobile in which it is being transported, and in the course of travel shall include only such deviations as are reasonably necessary under the circumstances. When they say closed and fastened (none of my cars have a trunk) do they mean a locked case? I noticed on one of the sponsor websites for this forum that they require me to provide a locked case or trigger lock if I'm picking up a handgun from them but this does not apply to long guns. I've read in some of the threads on this forum that either the ammo or the gun should be locked but not both, did not see any of that in the statutes either. Or is this a case of erring on the side of caution due to the ambiguity of the gun laws in this state?
  10. All good news to my ears...JimmyAGR I may take you up on your offer. I noticed on their website that they have a lot of events on the weekends - that doesn't impact the availability for shooters not competing?
  11. How is Central Jersey these days? I'm looking to join a range club and this is high on my list based on location and facilities...is it crowded on weekends? Is it still a great place to shoot?
  12. I am picking up my 6920 later this week, and been looking into 15 round mags...I've found out that basically there is a Magpul modified to 15 rounds from 20 that is out there, nothing coming straight from the mfg as a 15 round mag. In the description for the mags they state "The magazines are designed to comply with capacity restrictions, but are not guaranteed to insert easily on a closed bolt when loaded to full capacity. " So my question is whether anyone has found that the mag is any harder to insert or is it a non issue?
  13. I understand and agree about trying before buying - that was part of the plan...however I'm looking for starting points. For example, in general which calibers have less recoil? What do your wives like to shoot? There are as many pistols as there are grains of sand on the beach so to try everything would be impractical (but probably fun though). I am just getting back into the game (I used to shoot a lot in college but detoured into other pursuits, including big game fishing all over the world) and don't know current state of the art...i.e., is 9mm more recoil than .38, etc. I realize these are generalizations depending on what systems a gun has to deal with recoil, weight of the gun etc but just looking for starting points to get the wife trying some guns.
  14. Just got 2 permits so looking to buy 2 handguns. At least 1 will be for HD and this one I think of more as my wife's gun (as she needs to be comfortable with it and be able to shoot it) although if I'm home in that situation I would be the one to pick it up). Most important thing is to balance some reasonable amount of stopping power and recoil as follow-up shots are important and too much recoil means my wife would, in theory, not be able to get in effective 2nd, 3rd or 4th shots. Of course we plan for her to try the gun at a range before buying to make sure she can handle the recoil. For myself I'm thinking H&K .USP 45 ACP...any thoughts on that?
  15. Golf, thanks for the offer, I have my heart set on Colt 6920, I ordered one and having it delivered to local shop to be modified. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  16. I'm confused here...used to live in Florida now I live in NJ and in the process of purchasing some firearms...how is firearm possession illegal in NJ? You have the requisite FID and any necessary pistol permits...Unless, and I'm guessing this is what you mean, you are referring to carrying, and not ownership per se. Apologies if I'm sounding like a newb with NJ gun laws.
  17. Where did you get your 6920 from? gb. com is not a website so I assume you are abbreviating...sorry if I'm being a newb with this.
  18. I'm looking for an LE6920 and contacted G&R about it, they said they cannot and will not do the modification...I'm new to this purchasing requirement for NJ (used to live in FL where things were a lot simpler) so anyone know of a dealer that can do the modifications and ship it to FFL locally here?
