  1. I earned Fish & Wildlife Management and Marksmanship merit badges back in the day. Neither prepared me for when a coyote crept into my campsite and tried to scurry off with my food, still in the cooler no less.  From then on, our battlecry when backpacking and encountering aggresive/proactive/"industrius" animals was "Remember the Igloo!", a la the Texas Revolution.

I kill coyote anytime I see one. They are perfectly legal to kill at anytime your deer hunting between September - February (in my zone) and then until the end of March if you purchase the special coyote/Fox permit. BTW during the special season you may hunt Coyote with a center fire rifle up to .25 cal. So yes your AR is legal to hunt with as long as you don't load the gun with more than 3 rounds. I walk down my street in full camo, with my rifle slung Uncased on the way to the woods at the end of my street. Hunting license displayed on my back. Perfectly legal to do so. No one calls police, Sussex county is awesome!

Interesting! I'm new to hunting in NJ, but this sounds like a helpful start.

Dances with Baccarat taste like herbs, trout, and cheap NYC coke. Perfect bear food.

    I loved that movie.

  2. Something about that is off. When I met with the Detective who did my paperwork he acutally laughed and said he would have my mental health check back by the next day and made mention that, thats the quickest aspect about the whole process.

I live in Hudson county but used to live in Bergen county.  Hoboken did a mental health record check in both to cover a 10 year history.  As I'm told, Hudson took way longer than Bergen.

On the bright side, i called the Hudson county office and spoke to a very nice gentleman there.  He couldn't tell me about my record request, but I learned that he is an instructor, teaching Boy Scouts over in the Bayonne range.  Good to know there are interested people somewhere within the system.

  3. Go for it. Please report your findings!

JMHO, but if you can't hit center mass with your SD pistol without looking down the sights, then it's not your SD pistol... I trust my 92FS because don't really need to look down the sights to score a hit. Practice and muscle memory, my man.

  4. Thank you for the all the advice and input! After reading through your contributions and suggestions, I've settled on the Beretta 92a1. I picked it up last week, and soon thereafter left for CA, I'll be back soon and look forward to getting to know my new friend at the range GW!

On a sidenote, I did look into the cz75, and it's definitely an impressive gun, but it's a bit more expensive, and I need to discipline myself financially at this point. Thanks again everyone!

Good choice.  I got a 92FS as my first gun.  Easy to use, easy to clean.

  5. I have a Mosquito Sport that is mediocre.  Feature wise, it's got all the stuff I like when training someone.

Out of the box, the trigger is way too heavy and rough.  Prone to FTE/FTF with cheap 22 ammo.  However, it runs like a sewing machine with CCI minimags, but still with the crappy trigger.

Also, its not really a sig... its manufactured by GSG.  Trying to find replacement parts was a challenge when I wanted to switch to the stand size barrel.

  6. Got an official response from my letter to Christie.  Doesn't say much, but at least it was read.

    Dear xxx:

Thank you for writing to express your opposition to Assembly Bill No. 2006 (A2006) and Senate Bill No. 993 (S993), both of which would reduce maximum capacity of ammunition magazines to 10 rounds in New Jersey.  I appreciate learning your views on this matter.

As you may know, Assembly Bill No. 2006 and Senate Bill No. 993 have been referred to the Senate Law and Public Safety Committee.  As such, you may wish to contact your legislative representatives to make them aware of your concerns.  If you are unsure of which legislative district you reside in or who your legislators are, you may obtain this information from the New Jersey State Legislative website: www.njleg.state.nj.us.  If either one of these bills passes both Houses of Legislature, I will be sure to take you views into consideration.  Thank you again for writing.

    Best wishes.

    Sincerely,

    Chris Christie

    Governor

  7. Ok then lets see your letter. Oh sorry you didn't write one. This whole idea of being suave and cool ,dressed in a 3 piece suit is not working .

Level headed? How do you deal with crazy career driven liberals who really don't care what you have to say? Please enlighten me.

The unfortunate truth is we are far out numbered in this communist state , so unless the SCOTUS makes a ruling in our favor we are going no where.

Although a good walk into the capitol and dragging them out into the street might help sway them but i doubt it. THIS IS A POLICE STATE!

Since you ask, I did write a letter.  In fact, I sent it March 21.  I posted it in the previous thread, but that seems to have disappeared.

    ########################
    Governor Christie,

I am writing to express my displeasure in learning of the support and approval of Assembly Bill No. 2006.  Simply put, this bill is not common sense and does not protect law abiding citizens.

For me, target shooting is an activity where my father (a Korean War veteran and college professor) and I (an Eagle Scout and business executive) can share time together by practicing a challenging and rewarding activity.  Following that simple pursuit of happiness, I find we often discuss the responsibility required to safely enjoy such a right.  We are both very familiar with firearm safety and often discuss the polarizing way in which New Jersey has restricted firearms ownership, in clear contrast to the overwhelming majority of other states.  I share this short personal account to confirm that many firearm owners are highly accomplished professionals who value personal responsibility and act in a responsible manner.

I took particular note of Assemblyman Greenwald's recent comment regarding retired police officers' exemption from this bill where I understood him to say that their "level of training provides them with the opportunity to protect law and public safety - we want those people to be in the possession of those magazines so they can protect people" [sic].  Assemblyman Greenwald disregards and disrespects the very similar extensive training that our military veterans have received.  Beyond that, he demonstrates no understanding that non-uniformed citizens could be capable of receiving and benefiting from identical training.  Without going further on the point, this is discriminatory at the very least.

While the recent testimony of those either affected or motivated by the Sandy Hook incident is emotionally jarring, this proposed legislation does nothing to address the serious matter of mental health review that has proven to be the overwhelmingly clear issue in that unfortunate case.  A more relevant example is the still recent tragedy of my fellow Hoboken resident Dustin Friedland's untimely death at the hands of prior convicted criminals at the Short Hills Mall.  As a Hoboken resident who has also shopped at the Short Hills Mall with my wife, I certainly identified with this horrific event.  Through no apparent fault of his own, Dustin was shot and killed by people who will neither respect nor follow the restrictions of the proposed A-2006.  Considering all of this, it is my opinion that this proposed legislation serves only to further restrict law abiding New Jersey citizens in a way that limits their ability to protect the life and liberty of themselves and their families.

I trust that you will continue to lead our state with a focus on effective legislation and policy to ensure the rights of law abiding citizens to protect themselves instead of merely limiting those very citizens who, by Dustin's tragic example, have the very real and demonstrated need for self protection.

Borrowing your own words, this legislation is not common sense.  Thank you for your time and attention.

    Respectfully,
    xxx
    Hoboken, Hudson County, NJ

  8. Handed in paperwork to Hoboken on 2/19, my references just received their letters on 3/5.  Not so bad, except for the 4 extra forms they require (including a reference from my boss to purchase a firearm).

I plan to share the recent judgement regarding non-standard application requirements if this takes any more than 30 days.  I follow the rules and so should law enforcement officers.

  9. Late bump to this post, but wanted to add my $0.02...

Ramsey Outdoor is always disappointing.  I was seriously looking at a Beretta Cx4 rifle but was told I could not separate and inspect the upper "because it is a new gun, and then it would not be new".  I then found a used 92FS that I seriously considered but was again told I could not remove the slide to inspect.  So now this mystery policy is suddenly effective on a used pistol??  It seems their policy is to not allow customers to inspect guns because the STAFF does not know how to field strip and reassemble.

Thanks, no thanks.  I'll stick to Caso's, Meltzer's, or Pennsylvania (in that order).

  10. Hello everyone.  I'm hoping to learn more about what I can/cannot do in NJ!  Been around firearms for a long time, having first learned safe rifle and shotgun marksmanship in the scouts.  Been getting more into pistol target shooting with only a few outings a year (old scout friends, father/son stuff).  Not sure if I'll ever spring for any memberships, so I mostly go to Belleville & Bayonne by the hour.

    Cheers!
