A lot of shops were doing that when it was real bad with reloading supplies especially the small ones. Once you get friendly with them they tend to be more lax with those rules. At least that is how it has worked out for me.

Depends on what it is and how I feel about the person. I normally just let them shoot a mag and if I am shooting brass I ask them to be careful where it lands so I can grab it later. I haven't run into any problems yet.

Looks like a lot of it is starting to come back in stock. I went to a small shop in NY that started showing that stuff on the floor again. It was hidden behind the counter and you had to ask for it specifically all of last year.
