This place was great when the previous owner had it, changed ownership about a year ago and things have gone down hill. Current owner (Joe) has a attitude problem when it comes to transfers or anything not purchased from him, the gun smithing work is nothing special and is below average (another local I know who is a LEO had the same negative experience with this shop).... Back around December/January I called asking about AR's and told him I was looking for a Colt Target Match (one of the few NJ compliant Colt AR rifles) and found one myself on Bud's, Bud's wouldn't ship it to NJ since it had a 20 or 30 rd mag and wouldn't pull the mag from the box so I asked Joe if he could find one and for what price. I get a call back that the Target Match is XXXX amount from his supplier (Bud's, go figure), I told him to give me a day to think it over (this was over a grand) and called him back the next day and asked if he would take a credit card, told me no so I said okay let me see if I can free up some cash by selling something else and I'll call you back IF I can afford to proceed with the transaction. Well, this guy takes the cake for being a hot headed pushy shop owner...I ended up getting barraged with calls the same day from him swearing at me and saying "If you want the ******* rifle call me the **** back I need to know by the end of the ******* day", after listening to 3 voice mails like this (all left minutes apart from each other) I called him back and flat out told him I did not want the rifle, simple. Nope, nothing is simple with Joe at R & R, instead he accused me of wasting his time....really? I was about to purchase a rifle from his establishment and he originally agreed with me about giving me a day to think it over and free up some funds for it (remember, no credit cards and no deal/promise was made). This guy is on a power trip...or on a trip from something else, I called today and asked about transfers rates (I purchased two SKS rifles from Classic Firearms and a Mosin)...he says "after you ****** me over the transfer cost is $145 per gun. REALLY? I "****** him over" how? I asked him what he meant and to explain: "I see you re-sell guns on gunbroker after you buy them" to which I replied "so what?" he replies "You are ******* using me to make money!" and it mushroomed into a dispute, finally he said he would do the transfer as a "favor", no I do not need "favors". Yes, I sell firearms from time to time on gunbroker when I'm done with them and want to buy something else. I DO NOT sell for a profit and usually take a loss. I called the BATFE and they said no law prohibits me from selling some of my collection as a non FFL (as I enjoy buying something, shooting it a bit and moving on to something else). I'm taking my business elsewhere, this guy is crude, rude, pushy and arrogant. If you feel like verbal abuse and exuberant prices, here you go: R & R Gunsmiths 35 W Groveland Ave, Somers Point, NJ 08244 Phone:(609) 653-9580
