The number for March was 1,400,000. So let's say 400,000 background checks (?) for CCW. That's a minus. 29 states are now permit-less (constitutional) carry; that's a plus. And then some number of transferred firearms with no check; that's a wash. (It's not a 'new' firearm. It's  new to the buyer, but a loss to the seller.) And then anyone who bought more than one firearm per NICS check. That's a plus.

Regardless of the exact mathematics, my point was simply that IMO it's highly likely there's been a million 'new' firearms purchased every month. For 56 consecutive months. Think there is any overarching reason for that consistent volume?

I think they feel something is coming. If someone thinks there's an alternative reason for that volume, or no common reason at all for that volume, let me know. If you want to.

I think the folks that witnessed the antics of so many groups back in 2020 haven’t forgotten, and they want to be prepared. Prepared meaning protecting themselves.

I know about six people who have never owned a handgun, but bought one in the last few years, including my doctor and dentist, both of whom never owned a gun before.

I dont know how they voted and  dont really care.  He is gone now.  You should get over it.

I won’t get over it until the NRA does some general housecleaning.

The CNJFO folks sent out a mailer this week regarding these fee hikes and a form letter, and an email mailing list to contact representatives in Trenton to voice our disappointment over another new set of fees. I’ve seen nothing in the mail from the NRA’s arm in NJ, the ANJRPC.

Is turkey hunting in NJ (spring) really on a lottery system for tags? Or am I reading the wrong information?

Lottery system ended Feb. 22. However, many zones have unclaimed tags that you can purchase over the counter at a licensing agent like your sporting goods store.

Hunt New York; non-resident license @ $100, turkey permit @ $10, hunt 31 days in May and you can harvest two turkeys.

Wow.  That would raise the total cost of getting a permit to carry to around $950 every 2 years.  That's criminal, at least in my opinion.

Given that the last time I checked, New Jersey has about 3 million people less than Pennsylvania, but has a significantly larger state budget.  With that in mind, the "x" million that the governor claims this will add to revenue is basically small change.  It is truly just another way to screw over law abiding citizens

Will also put a damper on ranges charging $150  to $275 for the qualification process. The State’s intent is to make it as onerous and expensive as they can get away with to limit to those who can stomach the costs. They’re already getting away with this nonsense, now they want to make it worse.

NRA board of directors re-elects Wayne LaPierre as executive vice president | Reuters

"May 30 2022 (Reuters) - The National Rifle Association board reappointed Wayne LaPierre as executive vice president on Monday, turning back the latest leadership challenge amid corruption allegations and flat membership for the still-powerful gun lobby."

    ...

"Conservative activist Allen West, a retired military officer and former U.S. congressman from Florida, challenged LaPierre, who is also fighting off a lawsuit from New York Attorney General Letitia James that seeks to remove LaPierre from office.
The NRA said there was one vote against LaPierre, who is also CEO of the NRA, on the 76-member board. Monday's board vote came after dues-paying members on Saturday voted overwhelmingly in support of LaPierre."

Note - That one vote wasn't any of "our" Board members.

Ruin their quarterly junkets to Texas? They’re not that dumb to bite the hand that feeds them. They were all complicit.

If the NRA wants to keep members, there needs to be a concerted effort on someone’s art to clean house.

  6. Over the course of the six-week trial, prosecutors detailed specific expenses that they said showed Mr LaPierre and other executives had used NRA funds as their "personal piggy bank".

Mr LaPierre visited the Bahamas more than eight times by private plane using funds intended for the NRA, for a total cost of $500,000.

The evidence also included helicopter trips to car races to avoid being stuck in traffic, as well as money spent on landscaping and anti-mosquito treatments at Mr LaPierre's home.

There were also gifts for friends and family and expenses such as hair and makeup styling for Mr LaPierre's wife.

Unfortunately, the rest of the board must have had some kind of corrupt incentive for supporting LaPierre, which most likely means that an honest broker wouldn't stand a snowball's chance in Hell of getting a top position as long as they remain. Those clowns probably either hope to keep their personal grift going per past practice, or one or more of them may aspire to taking over where LaPierre left off, figuring a little more discretion would afford immunity from scrutiny. The best thing that could happen, imo, is if there was some kind of membership groundswell reaction that forced them all out. I'd like to see that, but very doubtful that I will.

No one was willing to bite the hand that fed them.

They need a top to bottom cleaning.

Fewer new members join each year. Their membership diminished greatly in the last three years. This is just another black eye that will keep memberships down.

How are they going to woo new members?
“Join the NRA, Wayne is gone now but the rest of us under his watch are all still here. We realize negligent oversight cost the NRA $64 million over the last few years, but we’ve cleaned up our act and promise to do the right thing.”

While I am ecstatic over WLP taking a hike, he is still facing corruption charges in NY state, some are probably legit. There will be fallout.

The cards are stacked against this guy. Those findings they uncovered aren’t made up. Sad that every BOD member sat back and were complicit with what went on. Sounds like one big fudd circle jerk. The whole lot should be eradicated and they should start anew. Better hope they can recover for if the NRA falls it will be a huge win for the anti’s.

Maryland used to be one of the states requiring microstamping.  Some of you remember buying a handgun and it had two fired cases come with it.

The head of the MD State Police notified.the legislature that they had been keeping fired cases and comparing them to cases left atD crime scenes.  MDSP did this for like 10 years. This costed MD several million dollars a year.  MDSP requested the microstamping law be repealed so they could spend the money for something useful.

The microstamping law was repealed in 2015.

Platkin wants a law that...does nothing.

It proved to be a waste of time in New York as well with their CoBIS initiative. (2 empty shell casings with your new purchased handgun.)

Is the NRA Still Relevant? – RedState

“That's where the glowing spotlight on the NRA ends. For, if you really cared about the Second Amendment, you'd want nothing to do with the NRA. Remember when I mentioned that the NRA started lobbying in 1872, not long after their formation a year earlier? The NRA created a Legislative Affairs Division in 1934 and testified before the 73rd Congress to support the very first major federal attempt at gun control: the National Firearms Act. That's right, ladies and gentlemen, the NRA, in their first major lobbying effort, lobbied for gun control, not against it. In fact, for the majority of the 20th century, the NRA not only supported gun control, but they lobbied for and even drafted gun control legislation.”

Maybe this was a fudd mistake, but they need to jettison LaPierre, his custom suit collection, and his private yacht cruises.

what about your Granpa's shot gun, been handed down in the family for generations and yup.....no serial number.....didn't hav'em back then.......now what.

Most quality shotguns dating back to the late 1800’s have serial numbers, particularly any doubles. I can’t speak for any “hardware store guns.” though. What most don’t have are paperwork of transfer of the infamous or NJ COE.

  13. The costs are exorbitant, and we’re still dealing with a moving target and towns that continue to make up their own rules. I also don’t think the state is done. They will continue to throw up more roadblocks.

My circle of friends are between the ages of 65 through 78.  Everyone on a fixed income. Most of us have lived in New Jersey all our lives and never had a carry gun except for a couple who were in the service in another state while serving. None of us have ever  had a need or situation for a firearm for needed protection either.

Any cost, every two years, is a waste of money in today’s economy. My sights are set on moving, not wasting my money just to thumb my nose and give a raspberry to the politicians of this state. Politicians have banked on this. Call it retreating to higher ground, but New Jersey has been sinking into the cesspool for decades.
