  1. Seems like progressive presses don't have enough stations. Ideally I'de think you'de want:

    Station 1: Deprime/Resize

    Station 2: Bell Case Mouth

    Station 3: Powder Drop

    Station 4: Lockout Die

    Station 5: Bullet Feed

    Station 6: Bullet Seat

    Station 7: Bullet Crimp

I would kind of like to Seat crimp in seperate operations, but I'm willing to continue using a dual purpose die. Do they make a bell/flare case mouth powder drop die in one? Also do the bullet feeder dies seat the bullet or just drop it into the flare?

If it makes a difference I'm still debating between the Dillon 650 and Hornady Lock 'N Load Ammo Plant.

I'm pretty sure they make a Belling insert for the Hornady LNL Measure to free up a station for guys using bullet feeders

  2. curious if the following method would be considered permeant and non-reversible.

saw a guy did it on youtube for his AK mag.

he measured a piece of wood, use it as the base.  he then count the coil of the spring and and cut it, put them together and assembled the mag.  then pin it or glue it.

this way, if it was ever disassembled, due to the cut spring, it will not function as a mag at all since the spring was cut.

MY opinion is that that Should be fine...however im not a Persecutor so my opinion doesnt mean diddly..their argument would be that all it would take is a spring to make yout mag once again a "Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding device"  Sadly it's hard to use the "Reasonable" Standard when the guy making the call is most likely a rabid Anti.

  3. How about if you take them apart? Then it's just a pile of parts.

Nope..while people DO buy the "Rebuild Kits" under the assumption that if it isnt assembled it isnt a Mag, it's still a violation of the law.  Wil it MATTER?  Probably 999 out of 1000 times..it would never be an issue..but there are no garauntees that the Post Office or UPS wont Gorilla the package, see the Mag "Rebuild Kits" and call the PD.  Caveat Emptor.

  4. Thanks for the input. I think I will go with the .357 if I can find one. They seem to be rarer than the .44s.

    One question about shooting .38 out of a .357 - isn't the .38 a larger diameter bullet?

I bought a .45 Colt carbine from EMF (Win 92 clone)  http://www.emf-company.com/store/pc/1892-Carbines-c205.htm  Price on them is good, and i cant complain about the quality i love mine.  One note, because of Import laws they DO have a Firing Pin Block safety on the top of the bolt, so they are not 100% 1892 Clones.

  5. I agree with you!  Depends on a lot of things, including the size of your hands and I can perform a reload with either hand, but since a good friend of mine taught me how to do it the way you both were taught, I'm finding it a lot easier to do the reloads the way you describe.  I've used revolvers for 44 years, bought my Model 19 when I was just 18 (way back in '77 before you had to be 21 to buy a hand gun!), and because I made the switch to strong-side reloads I'm faster and better able to bring-up the gun back on-target. My friend Mike was OTJ for 28 years and now he's a professional Instructor sub-contracted by the Military to train Kids before they climb into the Sand Box.  Mike "broke me" of my bad habits revolver-wise, and I will always be grateful he did!  I shot IDPA at Somerset yesterday with my 586 wheelie.  Had a blast!

    Dave

Your Friend Mike....Is his Son OTJ now in Sayreville???  If it is, He retired from my old dept.

  6. Not 100% but there are a number of high worth American citizens who have surrendered their passports and taken up residence in tax havens in order to keep more of what they have earned, and the trend seems to be growing.

So far, IIRC, Their former president has renounced his citizenship and moved to Switzerland (?) and Gerard DePardieu has become a Russian  Citizen because of the tax situation in France.

  7. I can see the need to remove "to protect" from a legal liability point of view. Might be stretching it a bit, but if someone walks across the turnpike at 3 am and the inevitable happens, I could see someone saying "where were the troopers, aren't they supposed to patrol the roadway".

True..but then again, "Patrol" is not a static thing..you cant be everywhere at once...that is the whole issue. there are a finite number of LEO's, and you cant be in more than one place at a time.

  8. It all depends on the individual shooter When I was first trained we carried our speedloaders forward of our Revovler on the same side.  Reload was pop the cylinder latch, transfer to weak hand and eject the old brass, reload with a speedloader from the strong hand, close the cylinder, transfer back to strong hand, and keep shooting.  Even though it's been 20 years im finding it difficult to break that habit with my 625.

  9. Really? Once I called the NJSP about what I thought were shots being fired, they told me relax, it's the country, people do that all the time. After a while you get used to it.

This wasnt the country, it's a fairly dense area and a main road with houses close to each other.

  10. It is called civil disobedience. It is okay if you disagree with the tactic. Some people do. Some people don't.

But it is okay to arrest them for that? Odd rationale.

Sure it could have been handled differently. I was not involved. But the police have been known to target him specifically. That video that appears someone is planting something on him is pretty damning. I'm not sure exactly what he was arrested for, the rumor is 'resisting arrest'. That is a misdemeanor in PA. He is still being held.

The person "Planting" something was the Libertarian who was being arrested next to him....Not the police

  11. Possibly, but I remember some of the swarms when I was a kid/teenager.

The last few broods have been total non events. Something's got to mess with them or it has to be much more regional than they make it out to be.

I get some every year..so far this year we've neither seen or heard ANY.  All of the yards in my neighborhood had standing water around 4" deep for the better part of a full day

  12. It wasn't bad, was it? Thanks to all that helped this morning.

It was a good Match Vlad, and things went well.   I'm SOL for next week, and probably at least the first match of next month i managed to take a chunk out of the back of my trigger finger with a Cut-off grinder right over the first knuckle.

  13. Sure, I agree with you 100%. That's why I told the other poster to take a hike.

I could have worded that differently, but I chose to keep it civil.

Obviously you arent getting the point of who the Douche is sparky...Lets see, you post a  snarly liktte "this is why some cops shouldnt have guns" without even reading the article..nevermind not even bothering to get the Agency Correct (Pro-tip there sonny, Nassau County is NOT part of NYC).   I have the feeling you wont last long here.

  14. A buddy who is a NYC cop. He's a good shot but his daily routine requires him to issue tickets.

Same goes with a buddy who's a NJ cop -- absolutely no firearm training other than shooting at a target to qualify.

So you base the ability of 37500 NYC Cops on that one, and the 38257 NJ Leo's on the one NJ cop???  Interesting.
