  1. Put it this way...if slingshots are not legal in NJ, I am pretty sure a blowgun would be the same.

I agree which is why I asked.  However, I have read the law that actually lists "slingshots" (a typo when it was supposed to be "slungshots" according to Nappen's book) but I don't see blowguns in that law...

  2. I was at a friend's house last night, and he showed me his blowgun:

    http://www.amazon.com/Cold-Steel-Blowgun-Hunting-Weapon/dp/B00169OGX6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1391438683&sr=8-1&keywords=blow+gun

He showed me one of his darts embedded into a rock...

I shot a dart at a dartboard with a tiny puff, and it went through the dartboard, through the cabinet, into the sheet rock and into the stud...

    Are they legal in NJ?

  3. The NRA offers the coverage below for $150 per year for the base option with $250k of coverage and I can name an alternate location ( my local range)

Can anyone suggest a cheaper alternative with the same minimum $250K or better coverage.

Anthony Colandro gave us the name of a better (NJ-based) insurance company during my recent NRA instructor classes.

It was http://guninsurance.com .  No personal experience yet, but this is who GFH and their instructors use, and his recommendation is probably well-based in reality.

  4. Welding light sheet metal with anything is difficult without a lot of practice.  Continuous practice.  I have a very large and very high end Miller MIG welder with an aluminum spool gun, and although I've been good in the past, it takes me a few hours of practice to get good enough again anytime I need to weld something.

Welding light sheet metal with a stick welder is a punishment they deal out in hell, I think.

  5. I feel like you guys are just looking for things to be unhappy about.  The military does fly overs of many important sporting events.  I've certainly seen them at multiple NASCAR events, the Indy 500 twice, and even the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona sports car race.

It's impressive, makes people think of our military and people serving in harms way, and also shows people our cool military hardware, which probably helps with recruiting.  Being in one of the fly over teams is an honor for the pilots, but that doesn't mean they weren't in combat and understand what's more important.

I complain about many things in life, but I don't sit in my seat at the Indy 500 wondering who paid for the fly over.  I say, "wow, that's cool" and remember our military while singing the national anthem.

Just relax, not everything in life has to be terrible.  Threads like this turn from interesting to really depressing quickly.

  6. I bought two of them on gunbroker for $269 each, had them delivered to GunForHire, $20 for the transfer INCLUDING NICS.

Shot one of them today with my son.  Offhand, he shot around a 3" group for 30 rounds, and I had about a 1" group at 15 yards.  Nothing to brag about, but more than sufficient.  The guns are very lightweight, which is great for scouts.  My son usually shoots from the bench, and he had no troubles doing really well standing.

    Great buys!

  7. Are you allowed to pick up your own brass ?

Yes, in fact, if you tell the RSO that you want your brass (or if like in my case he just notices you picking up your brass) they will probably offer to sweep it all towards you.

There is no place with more customer-friendly and supportive RSOs.  That's one of the best parts about GFH, and one of the reasons it's the only indoor range I'm interested in shooting at.

  8. I've always liked Lugers, since I was a kid and had a cap gun that was a very accurate replica.

So, I want to buy a 9mm Luger.

My criteria is that it be a gun I can shoot, that isn't so valuable I will be worried about it, and doesn't have any Nazi markings.

What should I look for, how much should I spend?

(On searching, I think this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Lone-Star-Luger-Cap-Pistol-/291067917077 is actually the cap gun I had)

    Thanks, Dave

  9. I ordered 500 rounds of 9mm 115gr new RN, and 500 rounds of 45acp 230gr RN new on the freedom munitions website yesterday afternoon, and got the UPS shipping confirmation and tracking numbers this morning at 9:30am.

So, very good experience so far.

  10. Sorry, dude.  I'll be starting my "Do NOT vote for Anthony Colandro" Facebook page tonight, complete with the screenshot of your post.

I am sure Ted Nugent will be fighting hard for your rights in NJ.

  11. You can see a dime sized red dot from 75 yards away?!?! I know I'm sounding like a broken record here but I'm finding this remarkable. So in other words if I'm holding a playing card in my hand from 75 yards away you guys can tell me if the card is red or black suited? Why am I amazed by this? 75 yards away?

The red dot is a single very bright red dot (mine are actually fluorescent) in the middle of a black area.  So yes, I can see it, and my eyes aren't what they used to be.  I shoot at 300 yds all the time, and can see the 8" black circle no problem.  If I put a 2" or 3" orange dot in the middle it's very obvious, even at 300 yards.

  12. 1.  standing 25 yards or less

    2.  standing 50-100 yards

    3.  prone 100 yards

    4.  standing further

    5.  prone further.

With iron sites on an AR-15, I can get most of my shots in a 12" circle standing at 100 yards.  The people I shoot with can do much better.  I need to practice more.

I can do better prone, probably a rough 6" group, but that's considered pretty bad, I think.

With optics, prone at 100 yards, I can get everything in a 2-3" circle.

  13. I went early Sunday morning and had to wait about 5 minutes or less.  Went to the mens room, and by the time I finished washing my hands my name was up.  It might have been another 5 minutes without a membership.

Just started my first FFL transaction with them.  $20, including NICS, for members.  I don't think you can beat that anywhere.

  14. I've been looking for a couple of rifles to buy for Boy Scout shooting (merit badge and open shooting). Needs to be bolt action and capable of single loading, with iron sights.

I read a review of the new Ruger American Rimfire in the latest Guns & Ammo magazine, and then followed up with some online reviews.  Looks good. Uses 10/22 rotary magazines (or we'd load singly).  MSRP is $329, but you can get them for around $250 on gunbroker.

Has anyone touched, seen or felt these rifles?  How did they look?

    -Dave

  15. She could always get an mp 15-22. Very light and much more useful in a state without many outdoor ranges.

This is a great solution.  The S&W MP-15/22 is very lightweight, shoots great, has controls exactly like a larger caliber AR, and is fun to shoot for hours.  You can shoot it indoors, outdoors, ranges, wherever.  Not much noise, very little muzzle blast.

I took one to use as my qualifying rifle for the NRA Certified Rifle Instructor course, and all the other guys were fawning over it.  So much fun.
