  1. I live very close to Heritage Guild in Rahway (fka NJ Firearms Guild), and used to buy a lot of guns there, but haven't in a few years.

Stopped in this morning to see what they had, and they had what I wanted, at a reasonable amount off MSRP, so I bought it.

Also, they are having a sale this weekend, no sales tax on any guns (so, basically 7% off).

  2. I'm now an official NRA recruiter.  For those who didn't know, NRA recruiters get a commission on any new memberships or renewals.

Here's the twist: all commissions I receive from being an NRA Recruiter will be donated directly to the Patriots Path Council, Boy Scouts of America.  I will periodically report in this thread how much money we've raised for Boy Scouting in NJ.

You can either send me a check in the mail, paypal me the money (discreted noted), or email me your CC number and I'll put that on the form.  I need your name, address, phone, email and birthdate for the NRA membership form.  If a renewal, your NRA ID #.

SPECIAL OFFER: One Year NRA Membership for $25.

You can email me directly at david (at) peelthefrog (dot) com.

  3. Unfortunately, I was sold a south Korean brand for $30 that jammed up a bit in my G19Gen4.  Pretty high markup but I figure that's how they make money.

If you are referring to PMC, that's top notch ammo.

Also, G19 Gen 4's pretty much jam up themselves.  Have you replaced all the parts Glock is telling PD's to replace?

  4. I've heard a lot of horror stories about them, but I have to say that I used to order from them all the time, and never had any problems.  I used to buy cases of Lithium A321 batteries from them at insanely low prices all the time, along with 5.11 stuff, etc.

However, a lot of people seem to have problems.  They did post an apology on their website about it at one point.

  5. Sabattis Adventure Camp in Long Lake, NY needs a Shooting Sports Director for this summer.

The camp runs 6/28 through 8/4.  Room and board is provided, competitive compensation.

You must be 21 years or older, and either be certified through the BSA National Camp School Shooting Sports Section, or be an NRA Range Safety Officer.

    ----

This is a camp I attend every summer as a leader, although I'll be out all week on a canoe trek this summer.  They have a standard BSA 22LR program for the rifle merit badge, a clays range for the shotgun merit badge, and an archery range.  There is also a 30-06 program for venture crews.

If you want more information let me know.

If I was a public school teacher (or unemployed), this is absolutely what I would do with my Summer!

  6. When to SS Wednesday morning and I really did not know about the discounts, that sucks. First trip this year, I live in Paterson it's a long drive there but I like the place the RO is on top of his job that's good to see. Probably the range in Randolph is closer but I like SS.

You live in Paterson and went to SS?  Wow.

Do you know about the Woodland Park Range, right in the town next to you?  In my opinion, vastly superior in every way, cleaner, lighter, friendlier, etc.  And probably 10 minutes from you...

  7. Sea Cadets are a little different; they are actually a USN organization, and really a junior NROTC.

Sea Scouts are part of the venturing/exploring part of Boy Scouts.  It's open the men and women 14 to 21 years old.  The program is a little bit less military-oriented, and a little more merchant seaman oriented.  For example, our Skipper (like a Scoutmaster) is a young (mid-30's) guy who is just finishing up his full Unlimited Master certification;  he drives the super giant container ships, which is pretty cool.  They still do some drilling, and wear uniforms, etc.

It's a good program.  I'm happy our campaign is up to $875 after the first 3 days.

  8. The Sea Scouts is a special division of the Boy Scouts of America, dedicated to teaching young men and women seamanship, but also the values of the Boy Scouts of America.  We are lucky to have several Sea Scout ships active in NJ, although they are a small fraction of the number operating 20-30 years ago.

I am an adult leader for Sea Scout Ship 228, chartered in Rahway and operating out of our Seabase in Linden (on Tremley Point Rd).  Our main vessel is a 61' former US Army T-Boat, built in 1953.  The scouts take the Sea Dart II out most of the year, for frequent weekend training trips, and also the summer "long cruise" where the scouts and leaders take the boat out for 10 days!  At the same time, they follow an advancement plan that leads them to the Quartermaster Award.  The Quartermaster Award is the equivalent of Eagle (and from my significant experience, much harder to attain).  Since scouts can stay in Sea Scouting until they are 21, many scouts earn their Eagle and then continue in Sea Scouting during college.

The Sea Dart II is in trouble.  Although the Indiegogo campaign is less specific, we have a patched a hole in the steel hull.  It's safe enough, but will be an issue during the annual Coast Guard inspection, and we won't take the long cruise with the current patch.  Additionally, our starboard diesel generator has a cracked head, and the fresh water pump on the Buda Lanova diesel engine needs major repairs.  All of this came unexpectedly.  We usually  plan haul outs every 2-3 years, but this year's is unplanned.  We need to get the ship out of the water, fix the hole, gauge the whole hull to make sure there aren't any other thin spots, repair the generator and the fresh water pump.

We have started an Indiegogo campaign to raise the $10-$12,000 necessary.

If you can donate to help Sea Scouting in NJ remain strong, that will be great.  As important, if you could pass the link around to anyone you feel might support Scouting, the Sea Scouts, or young people learning seamanship it would be greatly appreciated.

Your donations are tax deducible, and you will get a receipt from the Indiegogo processor showing the tax deductibility.  Funds are being collected by The Sea Dart II, Inc.  This is a non-profit 501c3 organization whose sole purpose is to support Ship 228 and the Sea Dart II.

    Here is the campaign:

We all have a lot to complain about in NJ, but this is an activity for our youth of which we can all be very proud!

  9. I can't find a great holster for my Beretta M9A1.  I've bought two over the years, a Safariland 5187 and most recently a Galco Combat Master CM202B.

In both cases, they are so tight that it's hard to get the gun out, and hard to put the gun in.  I've tried softening the leather, storing the gun in the holster for months, etc. and I'm not happy.

The problem is that most holsters are made for the 92FS, etc, and don't correctly fit the rail on the M9A1.

    Does anyone have a suggestion?

Would the Safariland 6390 fit correctly?

I guess I'm mostly hoping that someone here has an M9 and has a holster they love and use for competition, etc.

    -Dave
