  1. I've made 2 purchases on GB - one for a handgun and another for some AR mags. Both deals went smoothly for me. Like any other auction site, Caveat Emptor - Let the Buyer Beware. Do your research on the seller and trust your gut. If something feels off, it probably is. Ask any questions before placing a bid. If you don't get the answers you want, move onto another auction.

And as far as ammo goes, make sure you're buying factory loaded ammo and not ammo some dude is reloading in his basement.

  2. I use a big gym bag with a Nike "swish" on the side, and a plain old book bag. Range bags look like.. well.. range bags :) I have a pistol box that holds 4 pistols.. and I drop that into the nike bag.. and then I put the ammo in the book bag. I'm the new guy on the block in my neighborhood, and don't wanna scare the neighbors yet

  3. My opinion is a New or Used Ruger or a Used pre lock 686. I would not buy a new 686 with a lock. The Smith will have a better trigger. With either one you can not go wrong.

Can someone tell me what the issue is with the lock on a new 686? I've read this a few times before, but have never seen/handled a 686 (with or without lock) and I'm unclear about why it would be a problem

  4. Some times the events will leave the range open but under the control of the guy running the event. It is definitely important to check the calender, specially on weekends.

Which is of course the only time I can go :x

Thanks for all the info guys!

  5. Shotgun is a small portion of Cherry Ridge the busiest ranges tend to be the handgun, rifle and high power ranges.

AR's are welcome and plentiful ;)

Ah ok - cool. Thanks for the clarification. Now I guess my concern will be actually finding an empty bay to use :)

  6. They've always been good at replying to my emails within 2-3 hours at most. I dealt with Dave mostly, and Steve a couple times. I was very happy with their work, prices, and turn around time. Yeah, you'll spend an extra hundred or so on the gun to NJify it, but at least you'll know it was done right.

  7. I wouldn't bother trying to call ADCO. Unless something has changed, they only answer the phones for like 1 hour a day, and may not even do that. Even tho they crank out orders relatively fast (5-8 days last time I checked), they're swamped, and don't want people calling them. Best way to contact them is email or their sub-forum on arfcom.

Even tho I've never really gotten on the gas-piston wagon, I've heard a lot of good things about LWRC. And the 6.8SPC rounds have some interesting characteristics. Should be an interesting combination.

I have a pair of 15 rnd PRI mags in 5.56 and they're nice. A bit heavy and pricey, but they seem solid. Should be a good choice.

Your project will be pricey, but you'll end up with a really nice setup. And one that'll probably be pretty unique in NJ too :) Good luck!

  8. McClane - I'll try to answer to the best of my knowledge:

What you should do first, is purchase the services you want ADCO to perform on their website - typically on a no-ban rifle, this will include welding/pinning a muzzle brake/compensator ($30), de-lugging the bayonet lug ($15), and pinning the stock ($30). If you are sending them a rifle that has handguards/rail installed, they may charge you an assembly/dis assembly fee ($35-50) depending on what they have to do to get to the existing muzzle device. Put a comment in the notes saying you are going to ship them XYZ rifle and what position to pin the stock at. Once your order is complete, you will get an order number.

Now, you purchase the rifle you want and have it shipped to ADCO. ADCO will be the receiving FFL for this order. Make sure to tell the shipper to include a reference to your order # above so ADCO knows what work to do on the rifle when they receive it.

Lastly, you will need to contact your receiving FFL in NJ and have them fax/email a copy of their FFL to ADCO, so ADCO knows where to ship your spiffy new NJ compliant blaster.

If you're looking at 6.8 or 7.62, you will have to look into some brakes that are specifically designed for larger caliber bullets. Off the top of my head, the only brake/comp I can think of that does those rounds is the PWS FCS30. I'm sure there are others, but as I've never looked at any larger caliber weapons, I haven't done the research. ADCO doesn't really carry too many muzzle brakes, so you may have to purchase that somewhere else (like Rainier, in the link) and ship it to them.

As far as the stock length goes, you can pin it to any of the 6 positions you want, as long as the overall length of the rifle meets the legal requirements. I think the minimum legal overall length is 26", but don't quote me on that. So, basically, you can pin the stock all the way closed (which i wouldn't recommend unless you're a midget or wear a few layers of body armor :)) as long as the rifle, from end to end, meets the minimum requirments.

Anyway, I know that's a lot of stuff to absorb and sounds much more complicated than it is. Honestly, the best thing to do if you're thinking about using ADCO is to ignore everything I said and contact [email protected] and ask him any questions you may have :) They also have a very active subforum on AR15.com in the Industry section, where they answer a lot of questions about what can and can't be done.

  9. Hmm...

I would think that it depends on what Class and Type FFL they are.

I actually don't know enough about the in's and out's of FFLs to be able to say with any degree of certainty...

  10. There definitely are - I just don't know any of them or how good they are :) The bigger issue with that is that a lot of places will not even ship a weapon with ban features on it to NJ.

  11. Yeah, that's pretty much it. You could order it anywhere really.. PA.. online.. but instead of having it shipped to your local FFL, you would have it shipped to ADCO. Once ADCO is done with the work, they would ship it to your local FFL. In some cases, ADCO will have the rifle in stock, and you buy it directly thru them and have them do the mods before sending it to your FFL... this is how I got my AR - bought it directly from ADCO, had them NJify it, and then they sent it to my FFL.

  12. Thanks for linking to them, Chad :) McClane, if you look at the link Chad posted, and go down to shop services links on their site, you can see most of the options to neuter a rifle to make it NJ legal. It's something like $30 bux to attach a comp/brake, $30 to pin a stock, $15 to delug a bayonet lug, etc.

  13. I don't doubt it. I bought a bunch of it a couple months ago, but haven't shot any of it yet, so can't speak from personal experience on whether it shoots dirty or not. That said, before I bought it, it did some research and didn't read anything horrible about it. For the price, and given the current limited availability of ammo, I think it's decent for plinking/training ammo.

  14. If anyone is looking for .223, LTDammo just got some PMC .223 55gr. $7.99 for 20 or $359 for 1000 rounds . Prob the best price you're going to find right now for factory loaded .223 that isn't Wolf, and also 20 bux cheaper that what I paid for it a couple months ago. I've bought from them before and they are GTG. Shipping was about 15 bux if I remember correctly.

NOTE: They recently changed their shipping policy and by default, the shipment requires a signature. If you do not need a signature, say so in the notes, and he'll take $2.50 off the shipping. Otherwise, make sure someone is home to sign for it :)
