  1. It has been crazy here all morning. NJSP Helicopters still flying around overhead. Apparently someone called in a threat, saying they are in the woods outside the school with an "ak47".

On our local news, they did say a Quick Check was robbed, during the same time, and someone was shot. Can't say anything is a reliable source, as I didn't hear about it on any scanners.

They are pulling over anyone in block coat/sweater, or with a backpack. All schools have been on lockdown, and NJSP has setup some road blocks out of town.

  2. G43s are expensive as hell. I figured they might be around the same price as a Garand, maybe a little more. BOY was I wrong!

I often wonder who holds the patents to old guns like the STGG, or the Luger. I've toyed with the idea of doing a simple redesign on such guns, and then filing the patent, so that they're reintroduced. To me, it's important to have access to old arms, and ammunition, for historical context. And, well, guns are just fun XD

G43's are quite pricey even for a shooter mismatch. I picked mine up for 1600 and I think I did alright. Someone on a different forum just turned one down for 1300 because it had a reproduction stock, I should try to find out where.

  3. Walt up at Hacketstown gets some nice stuff in all the time ,, ask him to call you if something pops up.

Or up in mount bethel PA, stop in at the furniture depot Jim had 2 the last time I was there.

Both are great guys to deal with

And yes the 2 in the classifieds here look nice ,,no tax and NICS fees it a plus

Agreed, Walt is a great guy and always has good stuff in there. Let him know what you are looking for and he can keep an eye out for you. I think he may still have an SKS in now, I saw one when i picked up a rifle about 2 weeks ago. Give him a call and check, or I can stop in and look for you.

  4. Tommy,

correct. There are some who have no interest in learning at all though or are not handy. Think about it, if you have enough $$ why deal with it yourself.

As far as youtube, I like doing this stuff in the garage. Taking my laptop to the garage is kinda a pita and would prefer print over the video.

Yea, laptop in the garage is a PITA, i tried to do this working on my car and having a digital version of the shop manually. It just gets messy and annoying.

I will say this though, working on my Mosins was a blast, took a lot of time to clean them up, but it was enjoyable going through the process. Only thing I need to do is the trigger job.

  5. Generally, I shoot everything I own. I have a few rifles that are safe queens, one is a matching bnz45 k98, and also a S/42 Luger. I don't mind not shooting them as I have others k98 that I enjoy. I also have a G43 that I have yet to shoot, but I want to wait until I purchase the shooter kit for it. This is also a matching rifle, but the vet sanded and varnished the stock.

  6. Well after a lot of patience, I ended up lucking out on the 1903's from CMP and received mine. I wish I bought 3!

I picked up mine from Hackettstown Guns and Ammo last night. The rifle is in far better condition that I imagined it be in. From the descriptions on the site, I was expecting something like a Field Grade. The rifle is in excellent shape, and the stock is close to mint for a 1943 rifle. Cartouches are all there, stock appears to be original finish, although I can't be sure. The serial puts it as a 1943 production rifle, and the barrel is also dated 9-43. The bore is is also in VG+, no rust or pitting.
