  2. I think one needs to distinguish between some of the top-of-the-line estate safes which this guy is selling (with that one with $150K in valuables in his backroom which the robbers tried to pry), and gun safes, which hold a strictly utilitarian purpose. With the post's title being The truth about Gun Safes, I think that's the focus. If someone comes to my home with a thermic lance, chances are, they can easily have far better guns than I will ever be holding in my meager safe, what do you think?

I think the basic principle of a safe is pretty universal; to keep what is inside safe from external elements (e.g. fire, water, people). I'm guessing the distinction between safes is just marketing related based on size, price, quality, and perceived use. Most people realize any safe can be broken into with enough time and tools. Therefore, you're paying for time and resilience. Higher quality safes give more of both.

  3. I believe the entire lower is synthetic on the 10/22. On the Mark series it's all metal of some sort.

Yes, the frame on the 22/45 is polymer and the regular MKIII's is alloy steel. Different grip angles too. The 22/45 is made to mimic the grip angle of the 1911. Some models of the 22/45 accept standard 1911 grips. The ones that don't can be modified to accept them too but it requires some work.

  4. If you go with the MKIII know that you can remove the loaded chamber indicator and magazine disconnect easily and cheaply. Other than that, the primary difference between the two will be heel vs thumb mag release as mentioned already in here.

Edit - I meant between the MK II vs MK III not 22/45 MK III vs normal MK III.

  5. The key is that the host knows which door has the grand prize. That means the door the host opens is not random. Think of this way with 100 doors: You pick one, host opens 98 to show them empty. Now, two doors are left. After you picked one door, you had 1/100 chance to win and 99/100 to lose. The door you picked is still 1/100 and the one door still left is 99/100 to win.

Yeah, exactly. Much easier to understand when you add more doors.

  6. Suppose you are on a game show and must choose one of three doors. Only one door hides a prize. You choose Door #1. The host opens Door #2 to reveal the prize is not there. You are now given the option to stay with Door #1 or switch to Door #3. Do you switch or stay?

  7. I had am Omega Planet Ocean for a while. Got a great deal on it and it was nice. I sold it when I got bared of it. I also had a Sinn U2 that was a coool watch. Sold that to get a Panerai. Watch prices have certainly gone up with the dollar declining.

I've always loved the orange bezel Planet Ocean but I feel like it's the "gateway drug" of the higher end watch world  . Seems like one of the more popular first "expensive" pieces in this hobby.

  8. What really surprises me is the amount of people not getting the joke and becoming offended - WNBC on Ch4 just had a story about this and the tone of the whole thing was that it is not a funny joke and why someone would do it etc. There is something fundamentally wrong with the media.

And as the map goes I am on the border between McMansions and Old People and Asians. I am Russian, not too old and my condo barely passes for a dog house at the Mansion... I guess I should be offended too!!!

Internet memes and humor often don't carry over successfully in real life. A lot of people not privy to internet trends don't understand most of these things.
