It’s here. Charging the battery now, but the quick test of this thing was incredible!! Very focused, intense beam! In low power mode, you can light something up at 600m. High power range is 1200m.
Output is 500 lumens, and intensity is 363,866 candela.

I can’t wait to play with it!

Please do report back when you get a chance to play with it. Think I might need one

After checking the webcam, I ran over to the Wayne site at lunchtime to have my inspection renewed.  Only one car ahead of me. Still took about 25 minutes on site--they have a team of remarkably uninspired workers standing around there.

That is the nicest way I have seen to describe DMV/government workers. Kudos to you sir.

So who makes a good boiler?  Need to change one at my parents house.

would like standing pilot, no need for all the electronics and potential failures in those super efficent units

    I think it’s 140,000 btu — natural gas

I use Weil-McLain cast iron boilers, don't care for their wall hung mod-cons. Weil-McLain CG series for hot water, EG series for steam. No more standing pilot available (Have to get that .5 of efficiency) Do a heat loss for the house- 140,000 sounds high unless a really, really big house. Slant-Fin has free app, not too hard to use.

If hot water system, size the boiler to the heat loss, if steam size to the radiation.

Yeah the sugar is the downside, but, that makes for nice caramelized crust on pork.

I have dry rubbed this 12# Turkey with Dillo dust, cut with another bbq rub I like. It will go on the smoker tomorrow.

What temp are you smoking at?

Did a turkey last weekend to prep for turkey day, 275 for about 3 hours, came out pretty good, used a homemade rub and herb butter under the skin. Thankgiving turkey will be a little bigger, might start it a little lower temperature to get more smoke flavor, than finish higher for the skin.

  5. I still thank Dillow dust for my Trijicon 1X4 and Larue quick detach mount. My wife really liked Dillow dust after another purchase from Larue, I told her I was looking at a scope for a different AR and needed to order a mount to get the dust. She actually encouraged me to spend the money and get them.

Larue rocks and wife is still OK too. :)

  6. On the pork butt/shoulder- I’ve done three on the pellet smoker. First one 10 am start, not ready until 830pm. Next one midnight start right on time for 4pm dinner.
Last one started at 11 pm aiming for 4pm dinner with mom- was done by 11am. (Pound and 1/2 heavier than last one, thought it would be longer?) let it rest wrapped in cooler for 5 hours, came out hot. Everyone loved it, I thought the bark got a little mushy, but came out very moist with great flavor.

With most BBQ it’s done when it’s done. If I’m trying to hit a dinner time I will start early and let it rest if a larger cut of meat.

Doing smoked meatloaf tonight (no fruit). Picked up beef ribs for slow smoke tomorrow.

  7. Pork shoulder is easy and awesome, did one last weekend. (Tom beat me to it)

If you do chicken or turkey make sure you finish on higher heat to get the skin right.

I think I am gonna try beef ribs this weekend.

Did a rib-eye reverse sear 2 week ago, came out incredible. (start with a thick cut, 2" or so)

  8. I use a Thermpro TP-20 in conjunction with the phone app in case the WiFi goes down for some reason and I don't have to look at the phone the whole cook. The high and low temp alarms really give extra piece of mind

That's when you really appreciate a wireless temp probe with alarm function, like this one.

    smoker temp probe

Monitor both smoker and food temperature from up to 300' away, with the ability to set high or low temperature alarms.

I've used mine on overnight smokes to wake me up when the smoker temp falls below a preset level.

  9. I started with a Trager Pro 575 back in May. Did 3 cooks with it. WiFi wouldn't connect and didn't get any smoke rings or much smoke flavor. Returned the Trager, Ordered a Rec Tec 590 on a Friday, had it at my door the next Thursday.

I love this thing, can turn it on and off with my phone, monitor grill temp and two food probes. Have done brisket, pork belly, prime rib, whole chicken, chicken parts, lots of ribs, reverse sear steaks. There are a ton of videos and recipes out there.

If you do a brisket, recommend you start the night before. Full packer(14 lb) for me was a 15 hour cook, 2 hour rest. Wrapped (butcher paper) at 165. Started 11 pm the night before.

  10. Thank You all for the replies and information.

I went with my neighbor to 3 different stores on Saturday. The lack of inventory was amazing to me.

He ended up buying a EAA Witness LTD Custom in 9mm. A little more of a race gun, but he wanted an all metal 9mm. The staff at Legend Firearms was very patient and helpful with an older first time handgun owner. NICS was 3-4 days, he is hoping to pick up today(Friday) if he gets the call.

  11. Thanks for the replies so far. Will probably take a ride with him to all three of the shops local to us. Pretty sure he got two permits, so maybe a .22 and a 9mm might be in his future.

Reached out to Steve, will do the same for Legend and Howell Gun Works

  12. As the title says, I’m looking for some help finding a handgun for my neighbor (in northern Monmouth County). This is going to be his first handgun, he is 75 years old. He has had his FID for years, but just got his pistol permit today.

I took him to the range a couple weeks ago. He liked my CZ-85 in 9mm a lot.. Didn’t care for the M&P in 9mm. Liked shooting the Colt trooper in both 38sp and .357. He shot my Sig 226 pretty good in .40 and with the .22 conversion barrel.

Looking for gun suggestions as well as FFLs. Especially FFLs not too far from us. It’s been a few years since I bought a new one. Who has some inventory? And do we have to make appointments now? I would submit a price request here, but he does not know what he wants.

Thank you all for your help, my neighbor is good people and I like helping people by more guns.

I could see that being a problem.

I did get jammed up already trying to buy alcohol at the Shop Rite.  They scan the license (there's a reason I almost never buy alcohol at the Shop Rite), and it comes up as expired, so by store policy, they can't sell me booze.

I tried working the clerk through the issue logically  (Was I over 21 when expired in May?  Yes?  Then is there any way I could be under 21 now?) Not for nothing, I'm also clearly decades older than 21, but nothing worked, so it was off to the local liquor store that I should have been shopping at in the first place.

Wish I could get carded to buy booze, miss them days
