large capacity is a legal term that the state of NJ defines.. that is why I use it..

No offense intended Vlad, I'm just tired of all the bs in this state. I personally don't care what NJ calls it, all that matters is that the mag doesn't hold more than 15 rnds in this state. Just because a mag does hold more than our mandated limit, does not make it high capacity just because they call it such, its politicized propaganda that the average gun owner in NJ has been brainwashed to believe. In the rest of the free parts of America a 20 or 30 round mag is what comes "standard" as the system was intended.

  2. Up to 5 rounds seems to feed fine.

Something is definately up with the mag spring or follower, as you load more rounds it seems that the follower must be tilting. I wonder if the spring was modified ? IIRC Midwest PX does not modify the spring, his blocking mechanism allows the spring to function just as it was designed. You could unpin the mags and check to see what's going on in there, maybe they just installed the spring backwards. Either way what a pain in the ass.

If you can post us a pic of just the mags with 1 round loaded and fully loaded, paying attention to how the round seats up against the feed lips.

I took a look at the picture and jackdawack does bring up good points, but by the looks of the picture, even through your feed ramps don't extend into the receiver, the round should still strip off and fall off the little "cliff" there onto the barrel portion of the feed ramp. Reason I bring this up is I started building AR's while living in CA. Riflegear was a retail store for me in Fountain Valley. I have a lot of the 10/20 Magpuls. Sometimes when they mod the mag (they have to mess with the spring as part of the mod) the follower is a little tight with the first round as the spring bottoms out. I had this problem before when my rifle got real dirty or I neglected the extractor cleaning. I figured mine out by actually removing the extractor off of the bolt and reinstalling the BCG sans extractor. When I did the round chambered fine. It seems that on the first round the mag was real tite and did not allow a dirty extractor that may have been restricted in its movement a little to grab the round just right. Just food for thought.

Here is some food for thought, at that particular point in time that is shown in the picture what part of the bolt is actually contacting the base of the cartridge ? At what point in time would the base of the cartridge be in a position to be seated against the bolt face? I don't think the base of the round is seated against the bolt face until the moment the round stops moving forward in the chamber,my 2 cents

  4. I was replacing the buffer and spring since I was have a lot of short stroke issues recently. I checked a number of things from recommendations online and from a smith and I felt this would be the best try to solve the problem. The buffer came today and its really nice I cannot wait to try it to see how the gun will function. I simply cannot believe how light of buffer weight s&w was using, its only at 2.6oz!

Teky0101, please post the results of your buffer swap. It would also be helpful for all of us if you could give us a description of the cycling issues you were having, and why you believe this was the best fix. This should help us all if we ever experience any of the same issues. Plus there are a lot of qualified people here that could give you some additional insight into the issues you hopefully were experiencing.

  5. The prevailing therory is the buffer and spring should match the type of stock, not the type of upper on the rifle. Carbine stock....carbine buffer and spring. Rifle stock.....rifle stock and spring. Within each category (carbine stock / rifle stock) you can change your buffers and springs to improve your comfort. However, crossing the categories (carbine stock....rifle buffer, spring) is not recommended. The combination howver needs to matched to let the BCG cycle properly. It's your personal decision to see what works for you.

Tbill, the op is swapping out his " stock" buffer, which I will assume is an "H" buffer, to a "H2" buffer. I don't think he is planning on changing either his receiver ext or stock.

To the op, I have heard some people rave about the powder filled buffers and I have heard others blast them as complete gimmick and waste of money. My opinion is that unless you have some form of cycling issue I would just leave it alone. Most people seem to run the heaviest buffer and or spring that will still allow their weapon to cycle reliably with the use of their preferred ammo. Running the heavier buffer is fine for your rifle, the only thing it could do is change how the weapon cycles.

Yes, the dot does get magnified... but so does the object you're aiming at... so the size of the dot doesn't reduce your accuracy or have a negative effect in any way. Why is 3x "pushing it"??? I don't get that statement. I used a 3x magnifier and it works great... @ 100 yrds, the target is actually visible and you can get very accurate shots on the bullseye (I get sub 2" groups)... without the magnifier the 2 MOA dot almost completely covers an 8" target @ 100 yrds and I get 6" to 8" groups.

Correct me if I am wrong Tony, but if your dot is covering 8" at 100 yards wouldn't you have a 8 moa dot?

  7. That's an ACOG scope - it's slightly magnified but not meant for total precision like a regular scope. Plus - you'll pay out the a$$ for that larue mount.

The test targets in that thread show some pretty precise shooting to me. The main point being that there are QD mounts that hold zero, maybe some better than others but the option is there.

  8. Gas key is located at the top of the bcg( bolt carrier group) . It is the part that the gas tube engages. There are 2 cap head screws that attach it to the carrier, these screws should be staked to prevent them from loosening up

Call and talk to Terry, the owner. My safe is 1100 pounds of Sturdy and Terry actually talked me out of a couple upgrades because even for commercial purposes, he said they'd be overkill.

+1. Make sure you check "Sturdy" safes out. Lots of good info on the site and some good you tube vids. Sturdy builds the working man's safe , all utility not much in bells and whistles. I found that to get a safe with the same thickness steel that is in a Sturdy you would have to spend about 1K more with one of the other manufacturers.

  10. Hello Elmo,I too had these same questions.I did a little research here on the forums, and found out that online vendors handle selling ammo to us folks in NJ in several ways.

So I just started ordering from a few differnt vendors and have good experiences with all of them.So far only one of the vendors has required me to provide a copy of my NJ FPID to purchase ammo. That vendor was http://www.luckygunner.com/

After they received my email with attached photocopy of FPID they shipped the order out very quickly.

All of my ammo shipments have come unmarked as to the nature of the contents in the package, and most have been left at the back door as we receive shipments from both ups and fedex frequently.

    Hope some of this helps

  11. "Utilizing the proven PMAG 20 straight body design, the 5/10/15 round PMAG features a capacity-limiting lock plate that can be set by the user to inhibit round capacity. Intended for commercial sporting use only."

Yeah I noticed that also Maks, but to me it reads as if the capcity limiting plate would in essence be the permanent block. The commercial sporting use statement is also a little worrisome as it seems to imply the mag would somehow be less reliable or not as robust as a standard Pmag.
