  1. I've been spending lots of time in northern NJ. I need to get some firing time. By Jackson I have soooo many options. I haven't been able to find a single one up here. North or South of route 4 would be nice. Happy New year!
  2. Heck, I work in PA, so I'll go there. I'm hooked to this sport, now, so I'd want to get the largest quantity (better value). Walmart in NJ does not sell ammo?
  3. I just reviewed my receipt from Cheyenne. It cost me $15.99 for a box of 9mm Blazer Brass (50 rounds). Do you guys think I can pick up said ammo for fewer bucks at this gun show? If so, how much would you think I can get said ammo for?
  4. I purchased ammo at Cheyenne on last Thursday, the 20th. They, indeed, asked me and another person that was there picking up some ammo, for FID. I'm going to pick up some ammo tomorrow, locally. I'll report back after the holiday. I figure either it's being phased in state-wide or Cheyenne's lawyers are mitigating risks against potential law suites.
  5. At first look I thought you were joking. But after thinking about it, it's probably more cost effective. I'm sure something designed specifically for the XD would cost 10 times the price.
  6. Shot it today at Shore Shot -- about 140 rounds (blazer bass) -- not a single misfire. I have to work on my grip and breathing. I am very happy with it. I think I'm going to need to purchase some tape or something to help me with the polymer frame/grip. After about an hour, my palms were getting sweaty and the grip was loosening up. Can you recommend something for the XD9 that will resist sweaty palms?
  7. Test drove my XD9 today at Shore Shot. The people there are very friendly and the facilities are nice. Phil (I think that was his name) was very helpful. Will definitely be back. My first time in an indoor range. The shock waves were very intense. The guy next to me must of had a canon. i definitely prefer the outside range (Fort Dix), but SS is just 10 mins away.
  8. Word to the wise. My NRA basic pistol instructor told me to notify my Mayor (quoting NJ state law, etc). Turned out that he is against 30 day rule and is pro 2nd Amendment. He contacted the Chief. Two days later I had FID and permit. Mayor Reina is the man!
  9. Finally got my FID. I test drove the XD, H&K, Beretta, SIG, 357, and the Glock. I settled on the XD9. Your advice about trying out different firearms was definitely the way to go. Purchased it at Cheyenne Mountain Outfitters for 5 bills. Easy to breakdown, etc. Thanks for all of the great suggestions. Next purchase will probably be the 357. I love that baby!
  10. How can a Lexus cost so much more than a Hyundai? They're just cars! I'll skip the hi-point. I guess you get what you pay for. Golf clubs and fishing rods, maybe; home protection -- NEVER!!!!
  11. I will take your advice, for sure. After taking my basic NRA course I'm running down to Sure Shot and Brick Armory. I've been researching all of the models that have been suggested by you and others. One of the appealing aspect of many of them are the designs of the firearms. Some of them are a work of art. I know, I shouldn't be focusing on that, but some do look very nice. Also, many are very expensive. That's another reason why I'm looking at the Glock. The Sig looks better, for sure. The Glock looks like a brick. Ultimately it going to be feel and price. Question for you experts out there: Most of the 9mm (90%) of them range from 4 bills and up (the stoeger can be had for a little over 4 bills). But I did run across a Hi-point 9mm for $165 brand new: http://www.hi-pointfirearms.com/handgun ... s_9mm.html How can a 9mm, new, go for 1/4 the price of the closest competitor (stoeger)? Does anyone have experience with hi-point?
  12. Who is going to challenge them? Where is the ALCU when you need them? Go figure.
  13. I applied in Jackson during the 1st week in April; called them up last week and everything is done. The lady said the Chief of Police has to sign off on it -- he's had it for a week already. Hopefully they'll call me up tomorrow. Not sure what's talking so long. state and fed approvals are done. NJ law states 30 day process -- what gives?
  14. Once again this forums provides me with good information. I'll get it straight eventually. Thanks, buddy!
  15. ok. I'll go down to Brick Amory and Sure Shot to see which one I like the best. I did checkout some of the links; the prices for the Glock are 5 bills and up. If I purchase a firearm from a gun shop what is the typical turnaround time? I believe my ID is valid for 90 days.
  16. My ID will be ready in a few days. My NRA basic course is coming up soon. Never fired a handgun. Based on youtube videos (don't laugh guys, I'm being serious), I'm leaning towards the Glock 19 or longer. Also because the Glock is used by the NYPD. If it's good enough for them it must be good enough for me. I would like to stick with a 9mm since based on what I read here, cost of the 9mm rounds are more economical. That said, does anyone know current price range of the Glock 19 or higher?
  17. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2485531/posts Thanks for the information. Gotta love njgunforums!
  18. As a newbie who will be going there after my basic training course next month, I welcome the extra attention to safety. I wouldn't want to screw-up.
  19. It's been 32 days since I submitted my application (in Jackson). Called the PD and they said they are waiting for federal fingerprint information; all state information is complete. I asked when do they expect to get the fed's information. They said call back next week. So much for the 30 day state requirements.
  20. Thanks. I will visit Shore Shot since he is a local guy. I like to support the local economy.
  21. Hello to all. Glad to be apart of the forum. I've learn lots from http://thefiringline.com/forums/index.php and was encouraged to join the NJ forum by maksim. Who, surprisingly, is the admin an admin for this site. Can someone recommend a location that offers the NRA basic course in May? Also, any recommendation on a gun shop, with a range, that I can use before making my firearm purchase? Thanks!
