  1. Why cheap out on something that you're buying for use maybe once or twice in a lifetime and then, when your life is likely in jeopardy already?  I don't know about you guys but my life is worth a lot more than saving $200-400 on armor.  And I'm the guy that usually tries to talk "regular" people out of buying armor because I think it'll get more of them killed than it will save due to conditioning and training issues.

Mk18 upgraded.  I pulled the RIS II off and replaced it with a CMR.  The weight difference was quite noticeable but the biggest difference was how much more comfortable the tubular design was relative to the quad rail.  The rifle without optic, can, and light came in at 6lbs.  Loaded and with accessories, it comes in at just over 8lbs.

  3. Is it ok to scatter different ammunition in the gun? For example load 2 slugs, 2 04 bucks, 2 00 bucks?

Why?  You can't select a specific load from the magazine when cycling the action.  You're better off just sticking to one load.  Kind of like not mixing FMJs in with JHPs in handgun magazines.

  4. If I pull the trigger on it, I'd be interested.

Roger that on the weight. Figured I'd end up with an 8-9 pound rifle. Not going to be a rifle I'm traversing 100 of miles on foot with. My 5.56mm AR is more of a lighter carbine... but my .45 AR is sub 6 pounds.

Didn't hear about hot ammo before with M1As. Did hear it with the Garand, which is why I only use M2 loads for it (have a box or two of heavier Remington loads, but that will be used with my M1903). I don't reload, so would I be fine with factory 7.62x51mm? Are we talking hot, as in variation in pressure with some .308 (with thicker case)? Or actually reloaded hot, which would be for bolt actions?

True, but I'm more interested in the platform than just a semi-auto .308. If I don't get the M1A, not really looking at a different rifle. I'll have that 2A1, so I'll have something that fires .308.

I'm really considering it as it would be another US rifle that I'd have. Would have some type of example of each battle rifle up from the M1903 (don't have a Krag, and won't since it is such an expensive cartridge).

If the AR10 had a standard pattern, I'd might be interested. But I have two ARs, so not really on my radar.

If I got into guns for needs, I doubt I'd have the collection I have currently.

I consider myself an average gun owner, wanting to get one of everything. [emoji41]

You should be okay with factory loaded 7.62x51.

  5. I have a NM M1A that I inherited but it doesn't get shot much because I have other semi-auto .308s that do the job better while being lighter.  Additionally, they can be a little picky with ammo.  They certainly do not like hot ammo which tends to break or bend the op rod.  This leads me to labeling my some of my reloads "M1A safe"

  6. Paypal sucks from a sellers POV as well. Currently have a transaction being disputed. Guy bought a tool on ebay OVER 3.5 months ago. Just opened a claim that it doesnt work. Reason "internal damage". Guy probably dropped it off a roof doing a job.

People suck.. i hate selling online.

Ebay and amazon dont let you dispute after that long. Paypal will allow returns for any reason up to a year. No restocking fees, full refund.... wish i could sue them.

Don't open a webstore   Oh the stories I could tell...

  7. All good answers but have one problem with all of them.

Range.  I don't know the layout of anyone's home but range is a deciding factor.

As Griz said and correctly so, you can figure on 1" of pattern per yard.

So your hallway is 20' and that's a long hallway... You get a little over 6" of pattern.

    You throw 7/8oz of #6 or 7 1/2 birdshot at a bad guy in a 6" circle  that's nasty.

And that's a low recoil load that won't over penetrate..

This is why patterning is so important.  Federal Flight control out of my 590A1 is a 4" pattern at 7 yards and doesn't change significantly from 5 to 12 yards.

For those who are unaware, California has a similar ban on semi auto guns like New Jersey except for the last decade or so, people have been able to legally build ARs using bullet buttons and other such magazine locking devices that require a tool to activate, allowing the magazine to be removed/replaced.  This is no longer legal.  Additionally, Californians could legally possess magazines that held more than 10 rounds if they were in possession of them prior to the ban enacted in 2000.  This is no longer the case.  Perhaps most disturbing of all, though I can't tell any more since these are all pretty messed up, is the creation of an ammunition purchaser/owner database.  I'm not sure how this affects mail order but either myself or counsel will be looking into it.  Finally, similar to OR and WA, it looks like BGCs will have to be performed to loan guns.

  9. Rifle length gas system = fixed/A1/A2 receiver extension.  It makes sense that it worked with your 9mm buffer as that should be 5oz or heavier while rifle buffers are 5.4-5.5oz.

  10. It depends.  Anything I would grab in a defensive situation gets cleaned, inspected, and lubricated after each range session though I don't do much to barrels beyond running a boresnake followed by wet and dry patches.  Rental and demo guns are treated the same since they're generating revenue and I don't want them choking due to neglect.  Anything built for precision is also cleaned after every outing though not inspected like the defensive guns beyond a cursory glance as I'm cleaning.  Anything that doesn't fit into those categories gets cleaned whenever I feel like it.

  11. Hell, I've seen a guy reduce this by dragging the bolt back using just his middle finger up the mag well. Coincidentally, he was also a big hit with the ladies.....

    1. That was me

    2. That wasn't my finger.

    3. That wasn't an AR15, it was a .308 AR

    4. HUGE hit with the ladies.

  12. You might want to email Freedom Munitions about the mix up.  If they're smart, they'll sic their lawyers on the other company (if they haven't already).  Such similar trademarks are obviously causing confusion in the market place at Freedom Munitions' expense.  If Daniel Defense can send their lawyers after V7 and force them to change to V Seven and LMT can sue AR MR2 for being too similar to their trademarked MRP, this should be a slam dunk for FM's counsel.

  13. The "maybe" is because they want all of the ammo to meet SAAMI, CIP, or NATO standards.

+P JHP is an excellent carry round. Why wouldn't you want all of the performance you can get as long as it is safe to use?

Because of recoil.  G26s are the most difficult 9mm Glock to control so running the hottest ammo through it will result in an even more difficult pistol.  That being said, my G26 has 124gr +p HST running through it.
