  1. Your only interested in semi-autos right? Out of those listed I would go with the remington.

In my opinion with AR-10 styles you will have to pay more for accuracy and reliability than with an M14 style rifle like an M1A.

    I would go M1a or M1a NM.

  2. The worst part about it is this bullshit permit process we have doesn't even follow it's own rules. The people enforcing the rules don't give a shit about peoples rights. People in key positions think owning a firearm is a privledge. Just listen to the state senators tape thats out. Thats a polular mindset in NJ government at all levels.   It takes people a year to get a 90 day permit when the law says it has to take 30 days. And you get evey bullshit excuse they can throw at you. Thats the most frustrating part.

  3. If your not picky just shoot 10 rounds of the UMC or White box and call that a target grouping so if its 2" or 4" just consider that the standard you want your loads to get to. Even if you don't buy more ammo make some comparisons to the ammo you have. Also maybe just look up the specs for Short barrel defensive ammo and see if there is anything interesting in the data. If you can base your starting point around known results you can eliminate a lot of different combo's. Also I would say pick one weight and stick with it for now. For me each bullet weight is its own set of trials not combined. I would say 124 should be fine.

  4. I don't load in 9mm but for .308 I would always try to match a commercial cartridge and work the load from there. First I see what that bullet weights the gun likes in commercial match ammo then I copy the specs and work the load around until its really matched with the gun.

You could try to copy a match 9mm load that already does well in the M&P9C it will save you time and should tighten up the groups a lot. With handloaded ammo there in no reason to settle for less than match quality and it should certainly be better then herters.

I also say you can make bigger changes in between loads and should fire 10 instead of 5 or 2x 5 shots.

What kind of rest are you using? Make sure there is no human factor in the groups. You really need a vise type rest for pistols.

  5. I never had to contact them for my issues. Mine was resolved fairly easily with a supervisor. Just stating that if you need it the option is there for you, and if anything, even the NJSP can't aviod that. I figure you can attempt to fight the firearms unit bureaucracy by giving them some internal affiars bureaucracy. It's a huge pita but you don't have many options in terms of recourse.

  6. That is exactly what I did last time.  I called, emailed and wrote to the state AG, NJSP superintendent, the governor,  the LT governor and my local state representatives.  I guess that trimmed it down from 6 months to 5 and 1/2.

Did they follow up? What became of those attempts? I think the complaints work better for towns. The NJSP sucks with permits and they really won't listen to anything execpt what they wanna do.

  7. That brings up a good point. You might get hassled at the store or range if your FID and DL don't match both in name and in address. But the diffeence between a full middle name and a abbreviation on documents doesn't make them not match. Everyone has documents with all 3 full names like Birth cert and at the same time a DL with first, MI, last.

the issue might be with the address because they will almost certainly not let you put a PO box on your FID and if its on your license they wont match.

  8. From talking to the detective handling my application, I'm under the impression that he has everything he needs from third parties, and the only thing holding me back is him getting to run "certain checks", but there are a pile of applicants ahead of me in line. I don't have any illusions of trying to change the system, and I'm certainly not even going to try threatening legal action. I'm just looking for something that will get my application pulled out of the middle of the stack and moved to the top. Now he seemed pretty certain that I'd have it by month end, but I'm just sick and tired of waiting. I don't think I should need to feel grateful because mine was processed in 4 months while someone else going directly through NJSP is waiting 6+ months, and it just freaking gets me steamed that just across the border in PA someone has more trouble trying to buy a six-pack of beer than they do a shotgun! Now, I'm pissed....I think I'm going to blow-off some steam by stealing some Booker for Senate signs....

In my opinion he is BSing you. I wouldn't believe a word anyone in the PD says about how soon you will have it or why it's backed up. It might be in a stack but I highly doubt there is much holding him back from going through them quciker that is out of his control. In my opinion the only thing that would have a shot at getting yours looked at sooner in an appointment with the chief. Very politely explain that 4 months is BS.

  9. If your having trouble with long wait times you need to start making formal complaints. Just keep going to the next higher authority until someone listens. This is especially important to follow up even after you get your permits if you have been waiting months and months. Otherwise you will have the same problem next time. They often hand you your permits when you start complaining so your complaint doesn't go any further.

It is in the law pretty clearly that it must be 30days and hopefully someone along the line will respect that.

It's all about the people. My Example: I was always getting permits in about ~30days when a sergeant was doing it. He got promoted to Lt to oversee permits and other stuff and there was some new officer straight from the academy doing permits. My wait time doubled for my next set of permits. After I didn't get my permits in 30 days I started making calls. New permit guy wasn't interested in what i was saying. I went to the LT politely and told him that the new guy was doing an unacceptable job and stated the past wait times and the law. LT told him something and now my permits are back at about ~30 days. If the Lt didnt help me I would have requested a meeting with the chief and so on.

It's often too late to help your current wait time but I think the overall wait time for everyone and the next wait time for you can be improved with formal compalints.

Part of the problem is the units are understaffed and funded and part is that some officers doing it just don't care or even know the law.

People in higher positions even sergeants usually care much more and are more squared away.

  10. Funny video. At this point my first thought really would be that it's a prank show. I would have thought I was on scare tactics. I used to watch that show a lot. They have situations where I could see a gun being drawn so I see your point. But as soon as anyone saw a gun they would stop the act. it would be hard to find a situation where they would have the right to shoot. But yes I can think of many episodes of scare tactics where drawing a gun would be justified. I don't know about this case, not really enough credible threat in my opinion.

  11. To enter NJ the handgun must be shipped to a NJ FFL first then they transfer to you with your P2p.

I believe an exception to this is if you don't bring or intend to bring the handgun into NJ.

For instance if you own a hunting cabin in a state were you only need a DL to purchase I believe you can purchase and keep the gun at the cabin in that state.

    Correct me if I'm wrong.
