  1. Take a look at Rugers mini-14 while your at it. I have a Bushmaster and a mini. The AR is more acurate and a better weapon, but shooting the Ruger is a real pisser for me for some reason. Costs a lot less too.

I have a stainless Mini-14, great gun, fun to shoot. Not too happy with the Choate flash hider I had installed on it by Ray's though... They installed the damned thing slightly canted and broke a drill bit off in the second hole they were drilling for the roll pins... I need to buy a new site and find a gunsmith I can trust to cut the old one off and install it correctly. Only issue I have with the Mini-14 is taking it down to clean, I'll stick with an AR or AK; much, much easier to clean...

  2. Six charged outside North Bergen bar after scuffle with cops, police say

Six people were arrested on a slew of charges that include robbery and assaulting a police officer after they attacked cops outside a bar in the wee hours of Wednesday morning, North Bergen Lt. Frank Cannella said.

The police officer was conducting a routine closing check of Retro Lounge, located at 6743 Kennedy Blvd., at about 2 a.m. when two people came up to him and said they were robbed of their car keys by knifepoint, Cannella said.

The victims pointed to the two who they say stole the keys, Jose Argueta, 35, of Broadway in Union City, and Ingrid Cruz, 30, of Kennedy Boulevard in North Bergen, who were part of a six-person group just yards away on the sidewalk, reports said.

Twice, the officer attempted to stop the group, but was ignored, reports said. The cop then called for backup and drew his weapon, demanding the group to stop, reports said. One of the group, Fredys Mejia Moreno, 23 of Kennedy Boulevard in North Bergen, then shouted "shoot me" as he ran toward the cop, Cannella said.

He was joined by Juan Mejia Moreno, 24, of 67th Street in North Bergen, in the attack on the officer, Cannella said. Once backup arrived, they were attacked by a third member of the group, Felix Mejia Ferman, 24, of 71st Street in Guttenberg, Cannella said.

Cruz and another woman, Blanca Cruz Mejia, 30, of Kennedy Boulevard in North Bergen, then attempted to stop cops from handcuffing anyone, Cannella said.

North Bergen could not determine the relationship between the six people but reports said that Cruz Mejia, Cruz, Juan Mejia Moreno and Fredys Mejia Moreno reside together.

Quiero sustained cuts to his hands, wrists and face, but none of his injuries were considered serious, Cannella said. He was treated for his injuries by EMS and sent back to work, reports said.

All six members were arrested and charged with obstruction, Cannella said. Fredys Mejia Moreno, Juan Mejia Moreno, and Mejia Ferman were charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, Cannella said.

Fredys Mejia Moreno and Juan Mejia Moreno were additionally charged with attempting to disarm a police officer while Mejia Ferman was charged with exhibiting a false driver's license, Cannella said.

Jose Argueta and Cruz were charged with robbery, while only Argueta was charged with two weapons charges, Cannella said.

The knife was recovered at the scene, Cannella said.

  3. But according to that a SCAR is illegal, but our good friend Joejaxx will tell you otherwise :p

Technically the features game should not apply to non-clones of banned guns. i.e. The Kel-Tec RFB is a completely different design from any other gun on the list, it could never qualify as "substantially identical" even with a flash hider and a bayonet lug as the law was originally drafted because the law originally provided for the AG to add guns to the list annually... The substantially identical standard was intended to compare similar designs to one another.

In fact the weapon I have been talking about for years that is going to hang someone is the Ruger KB Mini-14. This gun was originally considered a legal weapon when the assault weapon ban was written, it was not included in the ban and owners were told they did not need to register them, only the Ruger K-Mini-14/5F and Mini-14/5RF which were the side folders were banned. The bastardization of the language from the 1994 Federal ban creating this features hodgepodge and "banned as types" BS has done absolutely nothing to clarify the law as everyone seems to make up their own rules as to what guns the features list applies to...

(BTW vladtepes, your list is wrong, the F models were the only Mini-14s listed which were the folders)

    YES - Illegal

NO - proceed to question 2

    2) is it substantially identical to any named assault weapon. Substantially identical as defined by AG guidelines.

a rifle is substantially identical if it is a semi automatic rifle with detachable magazine and TWO of the following are present...

    * Pistol grip

    * folding or telescoping stock

    * flash hider or threaded barrel capable of accepting a flash hider

    * grenade launcher

    YES - Illegal

    NO - Legal

that will apply to all semi auto rifles.

I've gone through this before but...

This information came from here August 19, 1996 Attorney General's Guidelines Regarding the "Substantially Identical" Provision inthe State's Assault Firearms Laws

The problem with AK clones stems from what I previously laied out here: http://njgunforums.com/forum/index.php?/topic/19939-the-new-attorney-generals-interpretation-of-2c39-1w-assault-firearm-means-avtomat-kalashnikov-type-semiautomatic-firearms/page__view__findpost__p__264264 and further complicated with the 1996 Monmouth county v. Robert D. Merrill decision I laied out here: http://njgunforums.com/forum/index.php?/topic/21619-mac-90-jersey-legal/page__view__findpost__p__287981

The state is trying to reassert the "banned as a type" standard without revisiting the fact that it was flawed in the original statement which introduced it...

  5. Fixed it for you.

So far, two States, Arizona and Maryland are introducing the same worded bill at the State level, not sure if any others are doing it. All Democrat backed.

Only a matter of time before one of our nimrods submits something like this in the NJ legislature... My bet is Loretta Weinberg; she'll love this idea...

For those not familiar with this babbling, incoherent ideology here is a fun video for you:

  6. Nobody is obligated to "inform" him of laws regarding carrying and states reciprocity. Ignorance is not an excuse.

I would imagine at some point the disparity between the climate in the majority of states that respect people's second amendment rights and those that do not like New Jersey is going to cause a problem. There are people that grew up in states like South Carolina, West Virginia, Texas, etc. with guns in the main stream that can not even digest what NJ's laws are about. They actually think the laws are designed to fight crime not to deter the free exercise of one’s civil rights. I think the situation is going to come to a head and soon where you are going to see some preemption on the state ability to create laws more restrictive than the federal laws and laws that will create federal standards by which each state will be compelled to abide. You simply can not have a fundamental right of a free citizen treated with such drastically inverse regulations between the states.

Imagine if NJ banned crotch-rockets or two seat sports cars or cars with more than 6 cylinders from the public roads because x number of people were killed by them each year. Then proceeded to routinely criminally prosecute people that happened to drive those types of vehicles into the state of NJ because they were prohibited dangerous vehicles ruining their lives, careers and futures. Exactly how long would that last before the rest of the states dragged them back to reality via some sort of Federal legislation... The better part of %80 of the states get the meaning of the second amendment and that percentage seems to be growing every year...

  7. It is amazing when you read the comments of those not burdened with New Jersey's gun laws. It is almost incomprehensible for them to understand what is wrong... Must be nice to live in a free state.

What were his intentions? Since he had a permit he is a law abiding citizen, If it was expired maybe it was just an oversght on his part. If he did not comit any crimes with the gun then advise him to renew his permit and give his gun and bullits back and tell him to keep it locked in his trunk until he gets his updated permit.

And what exactly did he do wrong, forgot to renew his PA carry permit? Had a gun in his car, which is perfectly legal for a PA resident. Hollowpoint = dangerous? (Any bullet is dangerous!) Wow, the horror. New Jersey is great for nabbing unsuspecting white guys who are stupid when it comes to understanding their Draconian gun laws, yet they can't curtail crime in the inner cities like Paterson, Passaic, Trenton, Newark or Camden worth a hoot. I'm sure with this nab everyone is patting themselves on their backs so much they've broken a few arms. A recent shooting of a police officer in Paramus is an indication that gun crimes are no longer limited to the inner cities. But let's stop those onerous PA residents who unknowingly bring their guns to New Jersey. They're the real criminals!

The wonderful, fact filled, fully researched story states the gun and bullets were found upon inspection of the vehicle. It doesn't state if they were in the PA resident's car trunk, or inside the car. Big difference.

  8. I'm beginning to think NJ is going to be the last state where people will be completely unable to actually obtain a carry permit...

Right to Carry in Illinois Looks More Promising Than Ever

This week members of the brand new 97th General Assembly will convene in the State Capitol in Springfield.

New legislators will be bringing with them added support for a Right to Carry law and plan to join the ranks of veteran legislators who have long supported Illinois joining the rest of the nation in becoming a “Carry State”.

Also in our favor – the U.S. Supreme Court rulings in Heller vs DC and McDonald vs Chicago, support from the Illinois Sheriff’s Association, 48 states which have Right to Carry concealed laws, Wisconsin which has the Right to Carry openly and soon to have a concealed carry law – leaving Illinois as the last and only state to completely deny the right to carry.

All these factors added to the increase in support by new legislators is very encouraging. IllinoisCarry expects to see major movement in a Right to Carry law this session.

    It is our time!!!!!

Right to Carry bills HB148 and SB82 have already been introduced!

Now more than ever we need Illinois gun owners and Second Amendment supporters to get involved in the legislative process.

•Watch every move the bills make at IllinoisCarry.com

•Monitor the hearings and debates live as they happen

•Know exactly when your support is needed to:

    1.Call/email/visit your legislators,

2.Make phone calls to committee members

    3.Attend committee hearings

4.Recruit the help and support of all your friends.

I never thought Illinois would fall before NJ...

  9. I worked with several assclowns of this mentality at the Ford plant in Edison, "who needs more than 10rounds, what are you going to hunt with an "M16" (talking about an AR), AK47s are only used for drive bys and to kill cops, yadda, yadda, yadds..."

I told the one guy I suggest he re-read the second amendment because it doesn’t say anything about hunting. Like most people I don't hunt, I couldn't bring myself to shoot an animal that wasn't a threat to me, I punch holes in paper to be sure I am prepared for the day when it may become necessary to punch holes in people to save my own life. I continued, If you ignore or support them when they come for mine I will be with them when they come for yours... He thought long and hard about it for a minute and said he "never thought about it that way..."

These are the type of people that cannot see the forest through the trees and they are dangerously ignorant of things outside of their own bubble...

  10. Invalid comoparison for one and one reason only...NOBODY "Forces" you to buy a CAR. You CHOOSE to buyr a Car, KNOWING that those particular requirements go along with it.

Not only that but a 15 year old kid can buy a car for cash and drive it all day long without insurance, registration or even a state issued license as long as they are on private property and not on public or quasi-public roads and property... A friend of mine as a kid lived on a rather large ranch, his mom never had a driver’s license but the father bought her a Jeep Grand Cherokee to drive around the ranch. Truck was never registered or insured and he and his brothers used to drive the truck all over the ranch before they got their licenses.

  11. Sounds like a zero intelligence policy to me… A toy is a toy you nimrods… You could hurt more people with a sharp pencil, should they ban them as well. Bet the libtards don’t have a problem showing those seven year olds how to put condoms on cucumbers though…

  12. Looks like today is Newegg's day to piss me off... Started yesterday when I ordered the Venlociraptor drive at 4:30PM. Checked on-line this morning status was still "charged", WTF? So as the day progressed I get my first Newegg preferred account bill which is over $5,700! I called them up, apparently they double billed me. Then I notice that my billing date is the 24th, I requested a billing date between the 1st and 7th as I get paid once a month on the 26th. Add insult to injury I just checked the status of the drive and it still says "charged"! 28 hours after I placed the order and they still have not picked the order or shipped it!!! If that drive is not here by Friday I'm going to lose it. :icon_redface:

  13. Yep :) thank you. They took the tube out today so he is soo much more comfortable now. Thank God kids heal soo fast.

    Thank God they also bounce!

Great news, looks like he took it like a trooper. Nothing greater in this world than seeing your kids smile.

    God bless.

  14. Man, you computer guys have my head spinning with all this tech talk. Is there a place in northern NJ that is reasonably priced and provides good service who will assemble a computer for you if you supply them with all the parts needed? Like a "computersmith" of sorts??

All the places I knew are long gone, killed by the Neweggs and Best Buys... Tough niche market. Most that are tech savvy build themselves with parts from Newegg or Tiger and those that are not can't understand the cost of quality components and wind up at Best Buy or Dell.com.

  15. The 8 year old P4 I just replaced had two 35GB 10k rpm Raptors (Raid0) spining since I built it in April '03. They are good drives, I'll give you they do sound like an F16 spooling up though...

Yes Raid0, I am as brave as my backups are good... :icon_e_biggrin:

  16. Each memory location in SSD can flip it's charge from 0 to 1 or 1 to 0 a fixed number of times. Basically, it wears out.

The reality is, they've run destructive tests on these drives and they far far outperform their rated lifespan.

Caveat...if you're buying one that seems to be a lot cheaper than the others, there's a reason for it. It either is very slow or it's using second or third tier memory.

Windows 7 automatically manages SSD so that no parts of the "disk" get over used. The internal controller in the drive also manages this. The two together will give you a nice long life. It's still very spendy.

Except in my case... My SSD ate a turd this morning... At least I have a good image of the data. 600GB Velociraptor on its way from Newegg tonight. Not a happy camper. 3 year warranty on the SSD so they will replace it but I was just getting used to the new machine...

  17. Every breeching round Ive shot has been either Buckshot, or the Sintered slugs..none of them have been low-powered. I actually HAD a Spas-12, one of the most horrible shotguns I ever owned, in "pump Mode" it was like 20 miles of rutted gravel road..made the Mossbergs my department has actually feel Smooth. the M-3 "Convertible" was specific for low powered Less-Lethal loads such as Beanbag, Gas, Baton and Rubber Buck, NOT breaching rounds.

Wow, so much for worrying about what is on the other side of the door...

These are what I am talking about:

    DoD BREACHING ROUND

    USDoDDoorBreachingRound.jpg

THE US DoD BREACHING ROUND is designed to defeat door locks and hinges. Specifically designed for personnel who have the responsibility to perform shotgun breaching, it is fired four (4) to eight (8) inches from the target. At impact, the metal powder filled projectile cup disintegrates, dissipating its entire energy on the target, providing access through doors by the removal of door locks or hinges through kinetic energy impact.

They will not cycle a semi-auto reliably... Oh yeah, and they won't shred anyone that happens to be on the other side of the door...
