you pick the Sunday and if I am free I will bring the rifles and sit through the class with you.. you can use my guns.. I don't care.. just pick up a couple of boxes of ammo before the class (I would front the ammo but money is tight with being unemployed and all.. ha)..
March 20th is the next rifle class.. will probably be done snowboarding by then.. keep in touch.. let me know.. better to shoot and get a feel for things before blowing money on something that you may not end up liking!
I don't mind.. I actually enjoy sitting through the class..
Thanks man! Will definitely be in touch!

when range I meant distance.. how far are you looking to shoot...
the reason I ask what use it will have is because depending how accurate you would like the gun to be there are other cheaper options...
AR15 will typically be $800+ to start...ammo is relatively cheap($6.00+ a box? not bought in bulk).. and the gun will be relatively accurate at 100 yards.. which is a reasonable battle distance..
AK variant will be a million times more durable... cost half as much.. shoot cheaper ammo ($4.XX a box?)... will make bigger holes.. but will be slightly less accurate (but will still be WELL within normal "battle accurate")..
I have had an AR15.. and I liked it and all.. it was a small light weight gun... but I just found that personally I was able to produce similar results with my AK.. so for me personally.. the AR was kind of meh and I ended up selling it.. I did go on to buy an AR10 variant.. (AR15 type gun chambered in 308) and that gun is VERY accurate and capable of longer ranges than an AK will ever make...
I am not sure how many rifles you have shot already.. but I would shoot a ton of guns before committing to anything.. and maybe look at other options.. make sure you are getting the right gun for you..
size, ergonomics, accessories, caliber, accuracy.. there are so many variables..
did you take the rifle class at Atlantic county yet? if so I will make a trip out and you can shoot some of my rifles..
Definitely want to take you up on that offer one day after I take the course (i'm gonna take one as soon as I can). That will probably help me make a choice as to what I wanted. I've never shot a rifle before. I'd like to shoot the 100 meters or normal battle range. No long range stuff yet lol. I'd use it for range purposes really.
And now that you've mentioned it, I do remember watching a youtube vid where they were comparing an AR to an AK and the AK won hands down on durability, which is something that I want in a firearm.

Okay, thanks guys. I didn't know that it was that simple as going in a store and buying one.
Vlad, I'm not sure what caliber I'd want. Provably something where the ammo wasn't so expensive. I'd shoot it at any range in south Jersey or the one right outside of Philly. Not sure yet about the barrell length, but I'd most likely want something tactical.

Not looking to get one yet but just wanted to know what to expect when the time comes that I am ready to purchase one. Also, how much are they typically? I always see that Brownell's add here and wanted something like that.

Thanks for the info Bryan. My father passed away in 96 and that's honestly when I learned the most about the organization because many of my family members discussed his being a part of the Masons. It might be something to look into down the road. Right now I'm concentrating on developing more clients and or finding employment.
I do appreciate your following up with me on this.
Yeah, Bryan pretty much said it all. Masonry is a beautiful thing. If you are not ready to join, just wait until you are. The fraternity can take up quite a bit of your time if you are really active.

Yes you should laminate it! I laminated mine 5 minutes after receiving it. My friend has one that is on its last legs. I'm gonna remind him that it could take a looooooooong time to get a duplicate if he needed one.

Thanks, was wondering about this myself. I knew about the 4473 but not about the NICS and $15 fee. I thought the NICS check was the 4473 form.

I just got my FID on Wednesday. The lady who gave me the FPID card and Pistol Permits fingerprinted me right on the spot. I probably washed my hands 20 times and the damn ink still hasn't completely went away!

Just got mine on day 95! It was a really long wait.

I think starting a healthy debate or playing devil's advocate for reasons beneficial to the members is fine sometimes. But just outright signing up to create problems is, well, kinda lame.
-
Finally!! Day 95 and I get my letter saying to come pick up my FID and pistol permits!

How someone has the patience to troll is beyond me.

Yeah, I suggest locking or deleting this thread, then drop the banhammer.

Still waiting. Day 94 for me (at the time of this post). My refs finally were called end of Jan.

1. Application type (FID/permit w/ existing FID). FID CARD AND 3 PURCHASE PERMIT
2. Police Department where you applied. Egg Harbor Township
3. Name of the person you dealt with at the PD. A nice lady in the records dept.
4. Time taken to issue FID and/or permit. Submitted app 32 days ago from date of this post.
5. Documents required by the PD (aside from the standard application and the mental health release form). A Work Authorization Form.
6. Notes - anything pertaining to the application process (unforeseen difficulties, chief of police calling your home, you hiring an attorney, etc.).
I went in and handed the lady the money, STS33, and SP66. She looked them over and said there was one missing. I just nicely told her I was unemployed and she said oh okay. Then she said they will call me when the permits are ready to be picked up. My references got their letters within 8 days. However, a few days ago, they sent out another one to one of my friends which leads me to believe they lost it. No worries. I'm very patient but I hope to get them soon! Also, the current police chief is retiring in January. I hope this doesn't slow my app down.
***UPDATE***
Day 44 I called the police station and very politely asked what was the hold up. The lady informed me that one of my ref's never mailed in his form. So I went to the police station and picked up a ref letter. She said I can have them fill it out and bring it back myself. Thats what I will do. She said thats the only thing holding them up from giving me my FID and permits! So hopefully, I'll get them asap.
****UPDATE****
Went through a snafu with them saying my reference didn't send his letter back. So i had my reference fill letter out and I took it to the station myself on Dec 21st.
The detective didn't start looking at my stuff until Dec 30th! Okay, major snowstorm in area, they were probably really busy. Not a problem I can understand that.
References just got their calls last week around Jan 25th and Jan 27th. Today is Feb 5th (90th day from day I submitted app!!!) and I STILL haven't received word!!!
Bump, I added an update.

I will try to make it! Its a long drive so I dunno. I want to come tho.

Vladtepes and everyone else, let me make this clear also. I AM WITH YOU GUYS!!! I didn't just pay $170 bucks for a piece of plastic I can't use! I can't STAND NJ's BS. Reason I brought it up is because I'm unsure as to what the actual rules are. I agree, once I leave NJ, what I do is my business as long as its legal. However, say we get pulled over in NJ to or fro, and somehow the cop asks do you have a firearm in the vehicle and you answer yes. The next question is gonna be either where are you headed or where are you coming from.
Man, that's a tough position to be in, especially if its really late at night after the ranges and gunsmiths are closed. If what Vlad says is true, all I have to say is I'm heading to or coming from PA and I should be covered by FOPA since its INTERSTATE travel. If I'm using the other argument then if I tell the officer that I'm coming from or going to PA, then I'm not covered under FOPA because I'm not going to an exempted place.
Looking at it this way, vlad's argument makes more sense.
That is until the other gray area is brought into play. FOPA doesn't specifically define what the place of origin is. Some argue that its your home or property (I believe that). Others argue it means the state in which your trip originates.
Since in NJ, you are legal to carry your handgun on your person in your home or business, using the first description works if you start out in NJ without a NJ carry permit. If the latter is true and the state is what they mean by place of origin, then we aren't covered under FOPA unless we have a NJ carry permit.
Let me reiterate that I think these nj laws are all hogwash and that I'm just playing devils advocate for the purpose of discussion.
-
Just be careful not to get pulled over on your way there and on your way back from PA as we are not covered under the exemptions.

I wish i lived in East Brunswick. I had to wait 8 months+ to get my FID and permits here in waldwick.

I'm looking for some bad guy targets. You know the ones where the guy is aiming a gun at you and another where a guy has a woman hostage. Anyone know where I can find some quality downloads like that for free or dirt cheap?

Just got my Florida license yesterday. Only 35 days from beginning to end!
