  1. At the PA State Championship IDPA match last month, the guy who placed 2nd overall in CDP (IDPA's .45 1911 category) was using an STI Spartan with a Dawnson Precision magwell, and some very light gunsmithing. He mentioned he had spent probably $700 for pistol, accessories, and trigger work. Seemed like a pretty good deal for a gun that didn't jam, had an excellent trigger and ate everything he put in it.

Food for thought, with regards to cheap 1911's not being competition-worthy.

  2. Heading out to vote and then renew my permits, I'll report back!

Wow. I walked in expecting a knock-down drag-out war and left 7 minutes later with a renewed P2P. I suppose it does make sense since it didn't go directly through the chief, so he didn't have the opportunity to give and enforce his personal opinion per usual. Oh boy, new gun day!

  3. Where are you located? I need to replace the front sight on my 226 as well. If you're interested I could guest you into SCFGPA and we could install both front sights and get them zeroed in without any RO breathing down your neck.

What are you replacing it with?

  4. Hello friends.

I have two PP's that were issued on 5/24/11. Obviously they are now expired, just as I find a pistol I'd like to purchase. 180 days from 5/24 is roughly 8/24, so extending them would've set them to expire at 11/24. Any thoughts on whether or not PD's will renew this late in the game? I know some will renew only if they aren't expired yet, although it seems like it would be the same time period either way. Then again that makes sense, so it's probably not an option.

    Thoughts?

  5. Maybe it's me but I get a kick out of this questions and I mean no disrespect and nothing bad by it.

I keep thinking what, it is too heavy?? Sorry I had to.

I carry a lot for each match, probably because I need it :icon_mrgreen: but I see no reason to cut it close. For example the the steel match at OB on Sunday, it should be 5 stages of 25 rounds each at a minimum, so 125 rounds if you don't miss. I have 300 rounds for my .40 that I will be shooting. over 1 1000 rounds of 22LR for my GSG1911 well just because it's a 22 and why not. I also have another 300 rounds for my 9mm just in case I need it, and I like to have an extra gun with my just in case someone else need it.

    I just figure what I use I use, what I don't I bring home.

No offense taken, and I agree with you. My issue is that I just don't have enough loaded at the moment. I shot most of my "reserve" and haven't had time to crank out a whole lot (Lee Classic Turret, not slow but certainly not a progressive). I have the components for quite a few rounds, but few actual rounds. Cardinal sin I know.

I had a small brain fart and forgot that what the GF says is NOT what the GF means. Hope you all had a good time, hope to make it out next month.

  6. It's fun to take the armchair general moral high ground and say the cops all have a choice. They certainly do have the option of refusing to follow orders, but:

    1. This isn't Nazi Germany, no one is being systematically murdered. The orders the cops are given are the same one's that have been around for 100 years. People are breaking the law, so police are needed to enforce the law. This isn't a sinister icy corporation silencing free speech, these people don't know what their message is and are breaking the law trying to make this convoluted message heard. The protester's, however righteous (they think) their cause is, are still breaking the law and affecting other citizens who may even agree with their cause but think they're going about it in the wrong matter.

    2. Refusing orders means no job. While you may have won the moral battle, you've lost the war. You are out a job, income, food for the family, and the chance to rise up in the ranks and actually change things.

Moral victory can come at a high cost, and in this case the cost simply isn't worth it.

  7. So i have my 3 main bases covered

    >Shotgun- Stoeger over & under /12 ga

    >Rifle- AR 15 / 5.56

    >Pistol- Glock 20 / 10mm

    Others in my collection-

    Ruger 10/22

    Glock 34- 9mm

    SA 1911 loaded - 45ACP

    Ruger gp100- 5'' .357 mag

    Ruger bobcat - .22 revolver

    -----------

So i mean, i have all my bases covered.

I shoot indoor at shore shot until i join CJRPC next year. I reload so caliber and ammo isn't a concern.

maybe its time to go tacti-cool , maybe its time to start a C&R collection. idk where to go from here but i have 4 pistol permits left and plan on having a $800 budget per firearm. next purchase date is Nov. 1st

What do you think for the guy that has it all lol ?

It seems there are a few gaping holes in your collection (and in all of ours). A single action revolver, a BP revolver, a 22 target pistol i.e. Ruger MKII/III, a hammer driven wonder-nine i.e. HK/Sig/CZ, a CCW pistol, a revolver cut for moon-clips, something absurd just for sh*ts and giggles i.e. Desert Eagle in .50AE or S&W 500mag, an IPSC/USPSA type open gun, Limited gun, a pistol chambered in something stupid i.e. Five-seveN, a revolver with unneeded changes i.e. Chiappa Rhino, a single-shot pistol i.e. Encore, a flintlock-kit (can we have these?), something historical i.e. service 1911 or luger. Not all of these are suggestions for guns I think you SHOULD have, just other options. Since you mentioned Nov 1 as the next purchase date I'm assuming you meant handguns. I'm sure there are tons more, but I have to go to class, good luck!

  8. I'd be happy to loan you some W-231, along with my proven P226 recipe.

Ahh I forgot we're 226 buddies! Yeah gonna have to crank some out before tomorrow morning, I'll take this small gamble. Wouldn't want to ask you to trade with me on your friday night, though I do appreciate it. Tx man. What's the load if I may ask?

  9. P, have you tried the new rounds?

    Do they work?

Yep did last night. Phew. I shot 30 rounds, all DA and they were perfect. My next challenge is guessing how many grains of Bullseye will make PF. I was supposed to meet someone a few days ago to chrono some loads, but it fell through. Good lord I have problems(caused by myself).

Only have Bullseye on hand. I figure 4.4 grains will be enough. 124gr MG JHP, Federal SPP's, mostly federal brass loaded to 1.15" OAL. 4.4 inch barrel. Obviously no one can predict exact results based on numbers alone, but does that sound like enough to make PF?

  10. Class rules state:

    H. Begin hammer down for selective DA/SA pistols.

I'm checking on the clarification for that right now but I'm pretty sure cocking the hammer back before the first shot would bump you to ESP.

You definitely have to begin hammer down, but according to Tom Richards you can thumb the hammer back after you draw and are on target. Going to test the Fed's out today!

  11. That would move you from SSP class to ESP.

I don't think that's correct, it just slows you down to thumb the hammer back.

Anyway, thanks so much to everyone who offered to help! I stopped by Ramsey Outdoor's in Succasuna and bought some Federal SPP's. I'll test them out tomorrow, hopefully they will solve my problem.
