  1. I have 4k if you need any.

I am in Fairfield during the day.

As a side note consider ONLY using federal in you gun. Softest out there will work. Stay away from any and all Russian primers.

Had same type of issues in my G17 all of it went away once I switched to Federal.

Yeah I'm planning on making the switch. If only someone coughGlennPcough hadn't ordered me 5k russian small pistol MAGNUM primers... If only, if only.

  2. Thanks everyone, you've been very helpful so far. I'm going to eagerly await word for PeteF as it seems he's the closest to me, and if that doesn't work I might make the trek out to Ramsey. I'm pretty sure I need Federal's as from what I understand they're generally the softest. I really appreciate the support.

  3. I'm not sure where to post this but this seemed like the right place.

I'm in a bit of a predicament. I recently sent my P226 out to Bill Springfield (www.triggerworks.net) for a spa day. The DA pull is nice and smooth with probably 85% less stacking and the SA breaks very cleanly. The only issue is that in order to make the trigger pulls lighter, he clipped a coil from the bottom of the Hammer Strut Spring. Since the DA pull doesn't bring the hammer back quite as far as in SA, I'm getting light strikes on nearly every one of my DA shots, some requiring 5 tries. I am signed up for the PA State IDPA Match this Saturday, and while sending out my gun for work right before a match may have been a poor decision, this is the boat I'm in. I'm using Tula small pistol primers which are quite hard to begin with. Is there a kind reloader out there who would let me buy 200 Federal Small Pistol Primers off of them? I'll drive to your place of reloading, and happily pay you $15.00 for your troubles. I'm in Basking Ridge and will happily drive up to an hour and a half to get my hands on some Federal Small Pistol Primers.

My other option would be to replace the Hammer Strut Spring. If anyone has a spare factory HSS for a Sig P226, I would also be more than willing to drive and pick it up and will pay whatever you think is reasonable.

I'm really in a pickle here, (that I put myself in, I know) and would be forever indebted to someone who could help me out before Saturday. Neither myself nor my girlfriend is ready for children yet, so an offer of my first-born as payment will have to be an IOU to be collected FAR in the future.

    Please let me know!

  4. There are plenty of legitimate things to protest about Wall Street. With the Government bailouts, the firms that were too big to fail have grown even larger. They fed at the trough and used the money to even further consolidate the banking and finance industry. That wave of bailouts has forever insured future bailouts, because now one of these mammoth companies going under will drag the entire economy down with it. While many of the protesters look like they are just filthy hippies in between Phish shows, I'm sure there are a good number that are against corporate welfare and want to see some of the multinationals broken up into pieces that won't drag us all down if they fail. Unfortunately, their gripes can't be shrunk down into 5 second sound bytes, so they tend to not make the news.

I'm completely supportive of those who actually understand and wish to change the situation, I just can't stand the people who enjoy protesting for the sake of protesting; it devalues the concept.

  5. I can't stand these people. They're very nearly the same types who were rioting in London.

News reporter: Excuse me sir, what is it exactly that you are protesting against?

Protester: UMM CAPITALISM IS UHH BAD, SOMETHING ABOUT THE RICH AND THE POOR....INEQUALITY! TAXES! JIBBER JABBER ECONOMY! LEAVE LASSEZ-FAIR IN FRANCE! Uhh INTEREST RATES! CORRRRRRRUPTION!

News reporter: Well put. In your opinion, what should be done to improve the conditions you're protesting over?

    Protester: *Blank stare*

News reporter: So you just want to be angry about something?

Protester: Yes that's pretty much it I suppose.

  6. I use neither method with my Glock. I just slap the mag in. The inertia causes the slide to retract enough on its own to release from the lock and chamber the round.

My sig will do this 75% of the time, not enough for me to be comfortable relying on. I personally like to hold the gun by the slide with my right hand and then gently smack the grip so it slingshots backwards to me as I release the slide. Then, with the momentum the pistol gains from the frame sliding back I catch it with my right hand which has been looped under my right leg (to create a steady mount to fire from of course), and then I step down with my right leg, pivot on it 325 degrees and dazzle my foe (paper target) with my style and panache. To each their own I suppose.

  7. I'm going to get an M&P for my next purchase but I'm hung up on the thumb safety issue. Its available with and without on the regular (not really interested in the Pro).

Some say keep the safety, it would help if a BG takes your gun away from you or if you were (somewhere in America) carrying and you can always leave it off if you so choose...some say forget it, the passive safeties and intelligence are all you need and it might get bumped into safe accidentally...

You can also get a safety model and remove the safety later but let's not worry about that.

    Thoughts?

PS, I'd shoot this in IDPA and as I understand it the gun doesn't have to be on safety in the holster since it's a DAO so that's a non-issue.

First of all, get interested in the Pro, especially if you like gun games. While hard to come by, most people seem to really like them. If you buy it with the thumb-safety and remove it, it will DQ the gun from IDPA at least at sanctioned matches. Have you used guns with manual safeties before? Go with what you prefer. The retention issue is negligible, taking a class on weapon retention is invaluable. With that said, the number of "gun-grabs" is astronomically low. It's all up to you.

  8. There was an interesting article on ChuckHawks written by a vetted member of Delta about a similar topic. He basically said that the old doctrine of 2 to the chest and 1 to the head was outdated (obviously). The current rational (according to him) was if you're getting 1 bullet, I'm giving you 2 bullets, and if I giving you 3 bullets I'm give you a fourth. AKA shoot until the threat is no longer just that. The author mentioned that the application of this idea helped to bring about the switch from 2011's to Glocks.

With regards to the article posted, my feeling is that if in a gunfight one follows a set course of action and waits for the results, they're already lost. The dynamic, creative, and adaptive mind is the one likely to emerge the victor.

  10. Gotcha. So I'm new to pistols, have no CCW permit in any state, and don't compete. I have vague notions of wanting to do pistol competitions at some point in the future but for now I would rather spend my limited funds on training instead. Is there any need for me to buy a holster? There's a basic one for my gun model (Glock 19) on Dvor right now for $31. Is there some holster need/use I'm overlooking?

The only thing I can think of would be as a "sheath" to cover the trigger guard so if I have to reach into my nightstand in the dark, groggy, in the middle of the night, I don't accidentally hit the trigger. Should I buy a holster?

No. Once you become more proficient/comfortable with your pistol you should buy holsters to fit your needs. There's no sense in buying one just to buy one. If/when you become interested in gun games you'll quickly find Kydex is the preferred material, and that leather is preferred for carrying. Spend money on professional training, either an NRA course or a beginner's pistol course taught by a vetted instructor. It is by far the best investment you can make. If you're concerned about "hitting" the trigger and having it go off in the middle of the night you either lack the basic skills necessary to operate a pistol safely, and/or have a SA trigger that's far too light. If you're awoken in the night and have a gut feeling something is terribly amiss, your mind will be surprisingly clear.

For some reason, new shooters never seem to grasp the concept so I'll repeat it once more and I apologize if it's unnecessary in your case...

Reading the internet/gun mags is NOT the same as professional training. Someone needs to be there to show you what you're doing wrong and how you could do it better as it happens. Old habits die hard, so please start off with good habits.

    See you on the range!

  11. I live a few miles from G&H, they are surprisingly nice in there. Not stuffy or anything. They let me handle probably 1.1 Million worth of inventory, knowing I couldn't afford any of it. Really awesome place to stop by if you have time. Their gunsmithing is also second to none, and their prices for it are also lower than none.
