  1. Do you have the restore disk for the computer? You may be able to fix it yourself with no D sucking at all! What kind of computer is it? How old is it? The failure you describe does not sound good but does not mean the end of the road either. What exactly (or approximately) was the hardware error you found?

  2. I managed to make some space for it today. I'm actually going to get a press from a member here, and since it doesn't knock primers out well, I could just sit there in my living room and just knock primers out and stuff, and all the serious work could be done at the press. Looking forward to trying my hand at this, since .223/5.56 brass is probably easy enough to get, since most people probably don't reload it, and if I started loading 8mm, I could save a bit of cash, so I think this will be both fun, and good for saving money.

It is a very absorbing hobby. It will absorb some of your time and money. If you shoot a lot like I do you will realize that you should have started years ago. Starting out with good used stuff is the best way to make sure you like it without having a ton of money into it. If you want to know anything about reloading on a budget, im the king! The only things I bought new are dies, and lots of em do to having problems loading .223. I finally found that Lee dies do the best job.

  3. If its busy, you wait. If they have a slot for you, you tell them how long you will be there. Either get there first thing when they open (on weekends) or early afternoon. On weds and thurs they are usually not too busy and you can get in and out at your schedule. they seem to be the slowest in the middle of summer. Once hunting season is near, stay away!

  4. Just a word of advice... Reloading in a distracting environment can be disastrous. I personally like the solitude of going to my basement and reloading. I know everyone works differently in different environments but one little slip up could, at the least, cost you a good gun. At the worst, not good at all.

Im not trying to come off like some kind of jerk but I do like to throw my $.02 in once and a while.

  5. One shot spray or pump? If the spray, you will be experiencing stuck cases at some point. The lee expander is smoother, and probably dragging less on extracting.

Thats what I found with the expander also. I tried the one shot spray and the RCBS lube pad. I do make sure to get into the case mouth with a brush with the RCBS lube and I spray the one shot in a manner that gets it in there also. I have reloaded many thousands of rounds this way and only got one stuck case.

I dont think its the lube you use as much as its the proper application that makes it work or fail. The one shot is just so quick and easy.

  6. measured all my .223 brass and set it out as already needs to be trimmed and under the limit.

After resizing the under the limit brass with the RCBS dies they where over the limit. some growing as much as .01

With the lee dies they only grow .001 or so.

Both sets of dies are full lentgh resizing dies not small base dies. All other dimensions are well within normal and within a few thousandths of an inch between the dies. The lee set seem to make the tapered part of the case look more uniform but both dies get it to 23degrees.

I think it may be because of the expander ball on the RCBS dies has a little too much drag against the brass. When the shell is pulled out of the die the neck expander pulls too hard? I dont know, I do know that using the Lee dies = a lot less trimming!

BTW, both die sets are new, cases cleaned and lubed with hornady 1shot case lube (including inside the neck!). and I also tried RCBS lube pad and brush. I had the same results either way.

    Added in edit-

I am very meticulous about my reloading. went through 3 sets of dies to find ones im happy with! All loading was done with a rockchucker one stage at a time.

  7. I have been trimming the hell out of my 223 brass lately. It got me thinking......

I tried a new set of RCBS FL dies and a set of Lee dies to confirm my thoughts.

The new RCBS dies stretched my brass up to .01" that put most of my rounds into the trim group. I wanted to try a set of X dies but I could not find them. I decided to take a chance on the Lee 2 die set for .223

With the Lee dies the brass measured a strech of .0005" - .002"! I was just wondering if anyone else has noticed similar... If not I wanted to offer others the chance to compare. Brass trimming sucks!

  8. called google my friend!

I tried that. it lists a bunch of shops that dont answer the phone when you call or online retailers. I have found that the best search engine for this stuff is members here that have been to all the differernt shops. As it turns out, I was slightly wrong, its the members here that have the brass I want!

  9. Since I now have a cast on my foot i have all the time in the world to work up a bunch of different loads and no brass.... Is there anyone in this state that sells brass? I really only need 100 - 200 .308 and the same for 223. I have a lot of different combo's I want to try out and nothing but time to do it. I suppose if I have to I can go to the range and make myself some empties :p
