  1. I agree with your points, a great discussion topic. One is not forced to buy Apple or Microsoft. In my case I have to support many family members, and Apple simplifies this for me. To some extent is why I try not to use Google products due to their business practices. This is why I am very interested in what Microsoft is doing with version 8.

  2. you are funny, iPhone as a fashion accessory. I guess android people buy phones, I buy information models.

I have it for the ecosystem it gives. Its the seamless interconnectivity between the mac, ipad, and iphone where the value is. For example, my son gets a school assignment, he begins typing it on his iphone on the school bus, he comes home and continues where he left off, he then goes to a friends house and continues on the iPad. On the way home he drops the ipad, smashing it to peices, he lost nothing as he picks up where they left off back on the mac. Its the same for all our other data, text messages, documents, calendar, all shared seamlessly between all the devices.

Today only Apple gives me this. Tomorrow, if Microsoft and Google team up and offer this, I am in. Microsoft may have this on their own with Win8, I will be spending research time on this, they get it. I suppose if I was only a gamer concerned with my first person shooters, then I would care about hardware stats. Ghz on a phone does not mean anything if I can't get the connectivity I need.

  3. What I find interesting about some of the points people make about Apple also apply moreso to Google. Every website you visit, every search you make, every email you send, is stored/scanned/archived/sold by Google.

I have both Windows and OSX at home, and for maintenance the Apples have been completely hands off over the years. Windows gets wiped and reinstalled at least once per year. If it was my own machine, I would not mind the Windows overhead. But factor in 3 kids, 2 sets of inlaws, and assorted other relatives, and the informal IT support shop has been in overtime. Once I switched everyone over to Apple, I may get a call once or twice per year. The Apples just work. I have been with PCs since the DOS days, the Apples just work. My mom can crash the microwave, the Apple just keeps on working.

  4. Yes, because when unassembled there is nothing for the hammer to hit, except parts its not supposed to hit!

All my 22lr have been dry fired tens upon tens of times, perhaps even low on the 100's, and never a problem. I am not advocating this, but I try to buy things that I dont have to baby, or take extra special care else it breaks.

  5. Ruger said yes.

    Smith & Wesson no. http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Category4_750001_750051_757815_-1_757814_757812_image#2

    Kimber says only centerfire.

Beretta does not recommend it and recommends a snap cap. http://berettausa.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/86/kw/dry%20fire

All of these links are inconclusive. On the S&W site it does not mention the 15-22, on the Beretta site it says "may". The instructions in my Kimber kit states you can.

This was an important feature to me, as I dont cringe if they do get dry fired.

  6. I only buy 22lr pistol/rifle that are capable of dry fire without damage. Between relying on a bolt hold-open, a light primer strike on bulk ammo, or the kids to remember, its just one more thing that I don't want to deal with. Any quality 22lr should be able to be dry fired, just like all my centerfires.

  7. I hope you are also bringing you son to shoot the match. Mine has shot in 4 matches this year so far, including last months classifier. He took over my p226, which we had to share. I felt bad about not being able to help much during the match with many trips to the safe table to swap it over, but it worked out well. I just picked up my mp9pro, so now we will have more time to help out during the match. We shot shongum last week, cant make this one, but will be trying idpa in somerset next week.

  8. I agree the M&P is a very nice pistol. The Pro series is worth it if it has what you want. The longer barrel and sight radius, fiber optic front site, low glare rear, and a better trigger than stock. Sure the aftermarket triggers are nicer, but you will not be in a rush to change it out immediately.
